I’d say Colt is particularly qualified to breakdown a NC QB considering the coach is Mack Brown. Quite a coaching swan song story by the way, I’d love to hear Colts thoughts on it. Perhaps he mentions it, still watching…
Colt McCoy may be the only person I’ve ever heard actually say CHANGE THE DAMN HASHMARKS. That’s one of the biggest differences as to why guys are just wide open at that level. I promise we will still watch college football with better defense
The biggest reason why guys are wide open in college is talent discrepancy, not the field. You have nfl caliber players being covered by future grocery baggers.
@@mpettaway97 no. The reason is because of free access Colt is talking about. The field is literally more open and less condense. A field full of grocery baggers is advantage offense
Great break down, but I had a hard time with TOO many rewinds (on the same play) and not letting it play out. I'd like to see a slow-mo/pause, draw out the routes and just let it play out. I'm sure it will get better on future videos.
This kid has it all. Surprised at all the lazy Trubisky/Howell comparisons. He is absolutely nothing like either. In the right system, he will be a star.
Why does everyone compare Maye to Howell or Trubisky? Because they're White UNC QBS? Mayes skillset is totally different & superior, bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic, more accurate, arm talent/strength, higher football IQ. Still a little raw, but is a much better prospect then the last 2. If he gets a chance to sit behind & watch quality vet for a year, learn the scheme, he'll explode into a top 10 QB in '25..
Yes, that's exactly why, they wore the same helmets in college. Absurdly lazy way to compare quarterbacks. If they went to different colleges nobody would be comparing them at all.
If Washington selects Lions OC Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Johnson a UNC grad probably will assuredly take Drake Maye to build the core. May actually reminds me of Jared Goff in terms of footwork and delivery.
I truly don't understand the Howellers on overall prospect tangibles alone when compared to Drake Maye. Sam Howell is 5'10" and has terrible pocket presence especially when under duress. He also doesn't read the defense much before the play however I think if Washington boosts the O Line in the offseason, the new system of Kliff Kingsbury's offense and passing game mixed with Anthony Lynn's run game, Drake Maye should do very well. The future is potentially very bright with a deep coaching staff, new experienced front office, the most cap space in the league, and ultimately how they develop the new QB.
@@123magnetz I did. Because Lamar was a boom or bust prospect! That's why he wasn't drafted higher.. Read his NFL scouting report! Potential is a risky investment especially at QB. Scouting isn't a perfect science and it's a tool to evaluate risk/reward based on information. Jayden is a boom or bust prospect.. the odds at this point indicate he's going to end up like RG3, but there's also a small percentage of odds that suggest he could reach the Lamar Jackson level. I hope he has a great career regardless!
What I don’t understand is “scouting” without showing Maye’s mistakes and bad plays with the exception of a couple of them. 🤷🏻♂️ every QB looks like a top QB by just showing his highlights.
This was pretty biased. Most of those go routes were underthrown. Colt looked bad in this analysis. He never pointed out how receivers had to stop and go up off of two feet to get the ball instead of being hit in stride. Even that last throw was late and low. We can't tell if it was dropped, deflected, or if there was pass interference. What we do know is that the receiver at one point was open, but had to leave his feet and go down just to attempt to catch it.
@JohnAC4 absolutely. So does every QB prospect. So did Howell coming out. I was analyzing only the select plays in this video. Every QB has good and bad plays. The key is to select the QB with the least amount of bad plays. I see plenty of Sam Howell in Maye, including the number of TDs and INTs.
@@mpettaway97that’s how I saw it. It’s a cool breakdown but it’s filled with excuses for Drake and bias instead of being honest with what he is seeing.

Why is it not possible for Drake Maye to improve more out of college than Kirk Cousins did? Unless you're saying Cousins was a better prospect coming out.
My question is how many years did he have as a starter at North Carolina? I am a Bears fan.we don’t need another Mitchell Trubisky that’s if the Bears take a quarterback
Trubisky played during 3 seasons but only started full time for one. About 550 passing attempts. Maye has also played during 3 seasons, but started full-time in two. About 950 attempts plus whatever he has in the bowl game. Probably just short of 1000 attempts. For comparison's sake, Pat Mahomes had 1350 college attempts, playing full-time about 2.5 seasons. So, Maye has enough work to trust the tape, but he doesn't have the 2.5-3 years of reps that would be ideal. You didn't ask, but Caleb Williams has 1099 attempts over 2.5 seasons starting.
I have yet to see this “big arm”. When I watch the tape on these QB’s, he is average and when I compare him to NFL QB’s it’s pretty average. I kinda don't want my Pats to take him because that first year we'd def be surrounding him with garbage.
All that doesn't when he has great ball placement. Alot of ppl use that logic but his WR will be NFL WR. That's why it's all about technique a d skill. stuff that only he can control.
@@IamnotJokic exactly. That's why accuracy and ball placement is always highlighted. How fast you can set your feet. How fast is your release. Being able to read the defense quickly. All those things translate. DBs In the NFL don't matter when a QB prospect has good traits. Nobody can predict how a player will play against NFL talent, that's why it's not considered. But as long as he has good mechanics and skill and talent, there's high upside.
The Sam comparison isn’t about height, drakes only stable asset, he under throwing wide open go routes was scared to death under a 2 man rush , lazy feet like every unc QB , his little bit of mobility can’t translate to the nfl speed, bro he is shark bait in the nfl , go watch the Miami game and NC State had his number and it was his play that cost that game, Sam is a little better in my book ,
If the corner simply turns his head for the ball its a pick..he throws "wish" balls into triple coverage and gets lucky..nfl corners will eat him alive.
OK everybody says how good his arm is just cause you got a good arm does not mean you’ll make a good quarterback in the NFL he’s still lacks the number one thing that all NFL quarterbacks and it’s something that you can’t teach he eyes down one receiver, the whole entire timeso honestly, I don’t think he is going to make it as a good NFL quarterback until he learns how to make a second and third reads the biggest thing about him is he’s going to that one receiver that he has in his mind no matter what

Drake Maye is the 2nd coming of Mitch Trubisky Perfect body type huge arm mobile NEVER WON a meaningful game In his life but people still think that he is a guy you can build around PASS ON DRAKE MAYE.
I like Colt's input, however it seems that the other guy is the producer and a fanboy of Maye. This breakdown really wanted to make Drake look good, highlighting many of his strengths and minimizing his flaws. Even the DISASTROUS decision from his own endzone, that was a Mac Jones type of NFL pick, but in college against a soft opponent, was attributed to playcalling. Yes , the call was inexcusable....but so was that decision and throw. What kind of evaluation of a college player,in regards to possible NFL success, only uses ONE GAME from their college career to draw from? That seems like a move w/an agenda. Imo, Maye has BY FAR the best arm talent of the big 3 QB prospects in the upcoming draft. That is really saying something, because Williams can make every throw and Daniels arm isn't elite, but is still high end and his touch and placement are spot on. However, Maye is also BY FAR the worst decision maker and makes baffling decisions and mistakes that the other two just don't! You can argue that he played for a worse program and didn't have the weapons or O-line they did, which is a valid argument , but he also played inferior competition and he far too often missed wide open players anyway! The fact that he is clearly capable of making jaw dropping passes to every part of the field and can do it consistently.....makes it even more frustrating when he misses wide open players or single man coverage just as consistently! He was the consensus #2 QB heading into the season, but he played himself down the rankings as Daniels played himself up! The gap between their play was so wide that Daniels chances at going #1 are as likely as him going #3! I think Maye is a talent and intriguing heading into the NFL. It will come down to wether he responds to the coaching or simply isn't able to grasp his assignments and adjust to the next level. He is physically talented enough, obviously. Yet how many have been and amount to nothing? It will serve him better to try to find a bit of "game manager" in his play, because just slinging it w/the decisions he makes won't help him. It will be fun to watch play out!

too much movement of video
I see NFL bust all over this guy. 1st round for Drake is a serious question and reach...
The Redskins are going to be a top 10 team in the NFL in the next five years.
if this guy makes it to #4 we should trade up with arizona and snag him
Against Duke… the Golden standard
He's very impressive but the physical tools and crazy throws aren't on the same level as the Mahomes', Jackson's or Allen's of the world. If you surround him with garbage I won't be shocked if he busts but if you surround him with talent he should become a franchise caliber qb.
I kinda don't want my Pats to take him because that first year we'd def be surrounding him with garbage.
No disrespect to Colt... but I miss Josh McCown
He’s more like Justin Herbert
I'm calling maye Herbert. Daniel's fields, and williams russ.
Next carolina panthers qb coach colt mccoy
That would be nice
I don’t trust his competition. The secondaries on these throws are so suspect and undersized.
All that doesn't when he has great ball placement. Alot of ppl use that logic but his WR will be NFL WR. That's why it's all about technique a d skill. stuff that only he can control.
@@steadyxgang it does matter when the windows in the nfl are considerably smaller and he’ll have less time to throw.
Well, Drake will not play against AppState DBs in the NFL. Thats for sure..
The Sam comparison isn’t about height, drakes only stable asset, he under throwing wide open go routes was scared to death under a 2 man rush , lazy feet like every unc QB , his little bit of mobility can’t translate to the nfl speed, bro he is shark bait in the nfl , go watch the Miami game and NC State had his number and it was his play that cost that game, Sam is a little better in my book ,
11-25 as a starter, who does Colt play for?
He wasn't great, but in fairness he did play for the dog day Browns.
The man beat the cowboys on the road on MNF the same year they made the divisional round in 2014. I think he's a lot more qualified then you bro
Who cares doesn't mean he doesn't know about evaluating QBs
If the corner simply turns his head for the ball its a pick..he throws "wish" balls into triple coverage and gets lucky..nfl corners will eat him alive.
OK everybody says how good his arm is just cause you got a good arm does not mean you’ll make a good quarterback in the NFL he’s still lacks the number one thing that all NFL quarterbacks and it’s something that you can’t teach he eyes down one receiver, the whole entire timeso honestly, I don’t think he is going to make it as a good NFL quarterback until he learns how to make a second and third reads the biggest thing about him is he’s going to that one receiver that he has in his mind no matter what
sounds like Josh Allen coming out college, except he's more accurate
@@rick8825 you can be as accurate as you want but when you add down one receiver the whole entire game, it’s gonna lead to interceptions every single play jus about
Colt should be on the jets
xD
That defense was horrid. Sorry not sorry.
I’m a diehard Bears fan and I watched tape on all the qb’s and I hope that Ryan Poles finally brings us a franchise quarterback this dude with the right coaching is gonna go down as the best quarterback Chicago has ever had period so if Ryan Poles doesn’t wanna get fired next yr he better draft Maye then build that oline and go get another stud receiver to match DJ and a couple of more Defensive players and then we will own the North
WE DRAFTING CALEB SORRY FAR AWAY BETTER NUMBERS THAN MAYE
@@Oohesgotadirtymouth Both of you guys are coping. Great arm talents but nothing the league hasn't seen before. You're taking a risk and potentially setting your org back. Stick with JF get draft capital and set up great players around him. Brock purdy was an mvp candidate and just had an awful game against baltimore. Franchise qb's just don't exist anymore outside of mahomes. The league has gotten very competitive which is a good thing. But people need to be realistic the qb position isn't whats going to change the team around. It's the coaches and the pieces around said QB. Ryan Tannehil for crying out loud went to the playoffs multiple times lmao.. Nick Foles won a SB 🤣🤣
I would love to see may go to the Bears
@@fabian7788 WE getting Caleb fields isn't it
@@djcaton5139 nah it's Caleb
Vikings take him
Colt McCoy? I’d rather my dog give me a qb breakdown
Your Dog went to the NFL for the position and get an opportunity to have a job on 32 others on the planet were qualified for?
Hes smart...
Just shut up bro he knows more than you could ever dream of knowing about QBs
Trubinski.
MAYBE MAYBE NOT
Drake Maye is the 2nd coming of Mitch Trubisky Perfect body type huge arm mobile NEVER WON a meaningful game In his life but people still think that he is a guy you can build around PASS ON DRAKE MAYE.
not even close Trubisky NEVER could read or look off a safety
@@Rick-tf4dl Well that's your opinion I have my own opinion he's Mitch Trubisky 2.0 He couldn't even dominate the week ACC
@@Mr921kevinthat’s not how you scout players lmaooo
Maye is 6ft4 or more. Trubisky is barely 6ft1. Bodies are nothing alike.
They both played in the ACC in a week conference and couldn't dominate.
scout JAYDEN DANIELS PLEASE
Your mom went to college
Draft Jayden Daniels Washington Commanders He is an elite prospect
Maye is easily the most overrated QB coming out by a mile. Is he good? Yes Is he some generational slam dunk talent? Not by a mile.
Glazzing a quarterback that’s just not that good. I’m sorry
Amother Trubisky.
I don't want this guy in Washington
I'll probably be talking about him soon. Too much smoke to not address the idea at least.
Overhyped.
