If MY Dad had been critically ill with cancer and had just been admitted in the hospital THAT DAY with breathing problems, I would’ve CERTAINLY had MY phone ON & WITH ME at ALL TIMES that day and evening!!
I would also have gone to the hospital to visit him.

Very odd for anyone in this family to go any time without their phone. We see MM, PM, AM recieving, sending messages, email, calls all day long. Then about an hour prior to shootings we have no activity at all from AM's phone. Not until he's jumping into car to drive to momma's at 9pm does it come back active. Seems he shut it off, left in house during lead up to crime. Big tell there.

All the people who say Alex M. is guilty because he lied, look up the Casey Anthony case, all the lies she told the police and waited 1 month to report her daughter missing and the jury found her not guilty of murdering her daughter when there was much more evidence and proof. In Alex M's case, nothing links him to the crimes. Lying does not make you a murderer.. Not Guilty

Honestly if Alex didn’t do this then wouldn’t he want them to know that he was just there, wouldn’t he be asking HOW DID THIS HAPPEN!!! Wouldnt he say stuff like they had to be watching me leave or they were hiding.. he never ever made any comments like, you have to find their footprints.. they had to get in here somehow. Nothing like that!!! He even gave the police in less than 5 min who he thought did this. This man has gotten away with a life of lies and his heart is cold and callus and his selfish ways will keep him locked up for Life!!

Waters made a great point when bringing up the fact that Alex said he lied about the kennels because he was paranoid, yet, said that he wasn't bothered by the financial crimes being discovered or the boat case. If paranoia was a real issue for him, he sure as heck would have had over- the-top paranoia about those things, as well.

When you think about it, the two most damming pieces of evidence are the only two that AM was unaware of and therefore not factored in to his alibi, ie 1) Paul’s video showing him at the scene of the murders, and 2) the fact that his vehicle tracked every single movement, speed, location to the second. // I believe he didn’t even consider he wouldn’t be believed and he certainly didn’t ever think he would be on trial for the murders.

Addendum to your well stated comment, doesn't it make you wonder that along with his family name/privilege, and the fact that he had gotten away with so much shi* for so many years, that at this point he "knew" he was untouchable? And perhaps therefore plotted the murders, "knowing" he would walk? Complete arrogance and stupidity.

Watters closing arguments speech is 100% . He is doing an outstanding job going though the time line and the emotion is just right. If verdict is a hung jury or alex is innocent, then there is 100% someone sitting in that jury who is corrupted or alexs defense team, brothers or alex himself threatened a member of the jury to say his innocent. There is no way this is a hung jury case. Alex is 100% guilty for murder.
Yes I believe so and have believed he’s been guilty most of the trial however it pains me to say this but one juror might feel sympathy for him. They aren’t supposed to but they could just hang it up. I hope not but just read some of these comments. Their are just a few that believe he is innocent. I’ll never understand that. The prosecution has proved that AM was at the scene of the crime(why would he lie about being there when they were killed if he didn't know when they were killed??) that he lied about EVERYTHING, that the guns used were owned by AM family, that he was approached about his horrific financial crimes that day, that his motive was to distract from his $ issues, that Paul was going to bring his castle down AND be charged criminally, that Maggie was spending too much money etc etv eyc

Idk. I really don’t agree. This closing lasted entirely too long. And he went by bullet points.. and lots of words on pages. The jury don’t have notebooks for notes so it’s very hard to remember that. It’s a lot easier to recall photos..that helps more with making an impact on their minds. Especially with a jury that can’t take notes. At the least he should have really gotten all those bullet notes down more precisely. I’m just not feeling the prosecution here. I feel like it was very unorganized. And went on and on and on. The jury stops listening at a certain point and can even get angry that you’re taking so much of their time. You have to think of those things. We will see what happens but I’ll tell you that I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that jury finds him not guilty or can’t decide. All they have is circumstantial evidence. With the lie about him being at the kennels the most important one. That is what he should have talked at length about.

I think Creighton Waters nailed this closing arguments. I couldn't believe people complaining in the livestream about what is he doing talking about the Financials again but he absolutely nailed it and just how desperate Alex was. And that also let him establish all the lies and people he conn'd and how his life was coming crumbling down on top of him and over night he became the victim to EVERYBODY in his life and around that area. "He just lost his wife and son over the boat case from a mad vigilantly. He thought with using 2 guns and his alibi there was no way local law enforcement or Sled was gonna look deep into him. He literally had it all planned out to create confusion over the 2 guns and then all his phone calls and visiting his mother. He planned out the perfect murder but Paul created the piece of evidence that absolutely blew up his perfectly planned murder. Without that video he most certainly did and would never even be looked at
Can you imagine the tons of hours spent organizing all of the information to produce to the jury?!? I bet he hasn't slept much at all, and still comes to the courtroom on his A game!! Awesome lawyer, he is!!
In my opinion, the reason he spent so much time on the financials is to demonstrate how effectively Alex Murdaugh could fool people, so it's sort of a warning to the jury not to be fooled by him.
The timeline is damming. I struggled with reasonable doubt, but at the end of the day there is no other reasonable explanation for what happened other than AM killed both individuals. His lying about being at the scene is the clincher for me. I can’t get past that. Guilty.

An innocent person that just found their wife and son dead would hardly be able to form a sentence right after just having found them much less a step by step timeline of what he had been doing. His actions were that of someone trying to immediately create an alibi not concerned with finding the killer

I totally agree...I have a lot of respect for Mr. Waters and his team, who are putting their lives at risk to make justice for those who can't speak no more.
I think Mr Waters did an excellent job throughout and his summing up was masterful. I loved the analogy where he stripped a side from the print of the Mona Lisa and said that the torn strip doesn't amount to reasonable doubt as it's still clearly the Mona Lisa.
I fear that this powerful family, with history of tampering with investigations etc, could easily found a way to influence/pressure a juror to give an innocent finding.

@@kellyharney2385 he will not go free, he will be jailed for his financial crimes no matter what, but he deserves to be jailed for the remainder of his life for the murders of Maggie and Paul. Hopefully justice prevails, but he’ll be in jail either way.

Dr. Kinsey matched the old shell casings next to the house to those next to Maggie's body. He said the same family weapon was used. Bingo!
I pray the jury is smart enough to catch all of this and not being paid off or threatened by the Murdaughs.

Interesting that Alec showed no emotion when Mr. Waters talked about Maggie injuries but flood gates when talking about Paul.
He's been like that all the way through, when it came to descriptions of Maggie's Ending....he would even start chatting to his attorneys

From my point of view, it was impossible to kill Paul without killing Maggie...he had to kill both otherwise Maggie would have known immediately that AM did it...She knew more than we think she did, including what really happened to Mrs. Satterfield

But only for a moment, and never produced a tear. Like magic 10 seconds later he was all good again, a normal person would have bloodshot eyes for quite some time after getting emotional. I haven't seen that once in the hours and hours of video of Murdaugh.

When he said she “ Ran to her BABY” was it for me. As a mother I instantly felt that. It made me INSTANTLY cry. As AM had ZERO reaction.

Let's not forget Alex immediately blurted out "I'M SORRY" right after he asked the cop on scene if it was confirmed that they're dead! Then he even said "IM VERY SORRY."
And they, and I, as well, thought he was talking about his reaction to the murders, but it could have been an admission to it.

I noticed the glare as well. During this trial that glare is there whenever someone holds him accountable. During the testimony of Tillis, Mallory Beach’s lawyer, that glare was palpable.

I tried to watch this guy on the witness stand and couldn't bear to listen to his B.S. stories and extra details. He truly thinks he is able to outsmart everyone. I don't think the jury will fall for it.

There is simply no reason for Alex to lie about when he last saw Maggie and Paul if he is innocent. According to Alex’s story, they were both killed while he was visiting with his mother, possibly even minutes before he arrived-and even though Alex had the presence of mind to grab a gun for his safety, he seemed uninterested in finding out who murdered his wife and child when the police finally arrived. Instead, (by Alex’s own admission) he was more preoccupied with concocting lies as to his whereabouts shortly before the murders. Only makes sense if he did it. No reasonable doubt here.

Poor Maggie and Paul, this man is guilty as charged and he deserves to be in jail for his crimes. It's unfortunate that in life, we have people like him, it's so so scary.

@@A7X062388 really wow they have a mountain of circumstantial evidence. Thousands of criminals are in prison based solely on circumstantial evidence. For instance he lied about being at the kennel after his voice was heard on Paul’s video. So he was there after lying for 20 months that he wasn’t there. They have a lot more evidence than that. Direct evidence is not needed to get a conviction. Also a stranger killer would not know if cameras where on that 1,700 acre property but Alex knew he had no cameras. A stranger killer would have no idea if anyone in the house would drive to the kennel after hearing 7 gunshot. But Alex knew no other witnesses where around. He summoned Maggie and Paul to come there that evening. He basically called Blanca a liar saying he was at his moms for 40-45 min and she stated 20. Which was proven to be accurate based on car data and phone data. He tried to offer her money for her wedding also. He basically called the housekeeper a liar regarding the shirt he had on. Now he basically says they are lying. Not him the pathological liar. Hmmm no one has seen that shirt or shoes. Why wouldn’t he produce them to eliminate suspicion that was what he had on during the murders. Exact shell casings and bullets around and in the bodies was found all over his 1,700 acre property and in the house. I’m sure no unknown killer could pull that off. He also was asked by law enforcement did he think cousin Eddie did it or drug cartels and he said no. How does he know? He did say that it might be the family or boyfriend of the girl that died. And of course 90 counts of financial crimes was weighing heavily on him so all the pressure of being exposed was coming out in a big way. This is just a small portion of evidence. I hope he is found guilty but one juror could feel for his sobbing on the stand and his BS. They aren’t supposed to base their decision on sympathy but they could. So we’ll just have to wait now

Many people don’t understand the the weight of circunstancial evidence. Years ago I didn’t understand circumstantial evidence either. Think of it like this.. it has to be *so many strong* circumstances that more likely than not the person, man or woman, did it. Remember it’s beyond *reasonable doubt* not beyond *all doubt*
The nail in the coffin for me that he's guilty is the fact that Maggie's phone read the group text about going to visit the father the next day at 8:49pm that night. Alex never read that text until the following day, but read all of his other text messages and made lots of phone calls. So why hadn't he read that text? Because he'd already seen it on Maggie's phone! Maggie was already dead.
The guy cannot keep his nose out of anything that involves him. There's not a chance in damnation he wouldn't have read that text unless he'd already seen it. Which narrows the timelines even more. The state is right, they died between 8:44 and 8:49pm.
Everyone says Paul was soul to the earth, and would do anything for anyone. He certainly wouldn't leave his best mate hanging overnight knowing his puppy had some problems. Which means he must have died within 10 mins or so of taking that video.
Everyone keeps saying he didn't have enough time to clean himself up. I beg to differ. He's planned it out. All he has to do is put on a 'rain jacket', pull up the hood, pull the trigger, take it off, wash your face, hands and legs, get changed and you're done. I could do that in less than 10mins.
Dude is guilty AF. I hope the jury does the right thing.

@@emiliadavis8247 Actually no. I like Mr Waters. And his demeanor did not effect the outcome. I only started following 2 weeks ago. And I binged watched most of the testimony. It's way different when you spread it over 6 weeks. I said the evidence was overwhelming and hoped his demeanor would not cause at least 1 juror to side with the defense
@@emiliadavis8247 Knowing all that I know now, I understand the zeal from Mr. Waters. I am thankful with the outcome. All I would ask is why did 2 jurors on the initial vote, vote not guilty and 1 not sure? The evidence was overwheling. The evidence is what Alex was unable to avoid.
God forbid that anything so brutal and cruel should ever happen to me .. but if it ever did ..this Prosecution team are the ones that I would want to seek justice for me. Love from Australia xx
I respect your opinion absolutely but I have to say I feel slightly different.. : ). While I have to admit that the team seemed to pull the case to a better understanding as the trial went on, I wasn't overly excited or impressed with some of the things they were focusing on. However I haven't seen every day admittedly but have watched all the breakdowns from many different sources to come to my opinion. Peace from Canada... *: )*

Why did the prosecution leave out the data where Alex's car slowed down at the exact same point Maggie's phone was found? I thought this was one of the most convincing points of Alex's guilt - it's strange that this was missed in the closing argument.
They talked about it in week 3 i believe. They said after the phone was dropped his speed was gained. Slower when thrown out, then speed up

I recall some debate as to whether his speed actually slowed down at the exact spot…but that he definitely accelerated beyond where it was found which, def claims, was a typical/expected acceleration. I could be totally wrong on that, but I recall thinking that was odd as well 😉

During Alec's testimony I felt for him, I wanted to believe that he didn't do it but the facts don't back his tears!
Really you had sympathy for Alex? What about Maggie and Paul? I do believe one juror could have sympathy and you proved my point. However jurors are told they are not to base their decision because they feel sympathy for Alex. Every time I look at that monster I think of the brutal way he slaughtered both of them. Nearly blew his sons head off and caused his brain to be ejected. Maggie was shot 5 times and 2 of those in the head. So when I look at Alex I see a psychopath sociopath narcissist thief conman coward and lying stone cold murderer. But I still think it might be a hung jury. I don’t know how but it could be. I don’t believe it will be not guilty.

Why did the defence not give a real alternative? I can think of a few reasons:
1. Harpootlian is a Senator for South Carolina; if he got Alex off, his political career and all the gravy that brings would be finished.
2. There isn't a real alternative anyway
3. Griifin couldn't think of one, even if there were one
4. They don't need to come up with a real alternative, because they've got a ringer on the jury, who will sabotage its deliberations
5. To win a jury trial, you don't need a real alternative - you can just blackmail a juror
6. To win a jury trial, you don't need a real alternative - you can just bribe a juror
7. They're holding the judge's family hostage, so he won't let a guilty verdict happen
8. They've already got a helicopter standing by, ready to whisk Alex off to Colombia, or Washington

The burden of proof is on the state. The state doesn't even have the murder weapons positively identified. The state can't establish a timeline. Murdaugh might have done it but the state sure hasn't made the case.
Defence doesn't have to prove innocence. The burden of proof lies with the prosecution to prove guilt.

I was so pleased when Waters said in his closing argument that Alex put Maggie's phone in his car. At that moment, Alex turned bright red and completely froze. The defense has been very arrogant and said that the prosecutors' timeline doesn't match, especially at that point and with Maggie's phone. I looked at the data myself and realized that Alex must have put the phone in his car and then everything matches perfectly until Alex throws the phone out of the car. It's great that the prosecutors had also finally realized this and were able to refute this counter-argument of the defense as well. And as arrogant as Alex (and his lawyers) has smirked about how the prosecutor and others don't understand things and of course he knows and understands paying attention to phones etc. Yep, he knew how to turn off his phone for a while and that's all. What an amazingly intelligent man indeed. These endlessly arrogant confidents are always the worst. They imagine that they are so smart and better than others and that no one can beat them. They are just pathetic losers with average IQ at most. You don't need a high intelligence to commit fraud, a crooked nature and average intelligence is enough. These cases are based primarily on trust, not about fraudster being some genius planner and it is only normal that a person trusts mostly others. You can't doubt everything and everyone all the time. Normal life doesn't work like that.
Also, Alex showed very little emotion during the prosecutions closing argument when they mentioned the brutality of the murders.... which he usually rocks and crys to make a scene to draw the attentino of the jurors away from the words of the prosecution. In fact, he appeared to be "reflective" during most of the prosecutions closing statements. Almost as if he was remembering what he had done to get to where he his. He is GUILTY and I pray the juror is intelligent enough to give a Guilty verdict.

It's made me wonder why would he take Maggie's phone just to dispose of it? I was thinking that maybe he didn't choose to take the phone but Maggie put her phone on the golf cart when Alex arrived at the kennels. Then as he was heading back, he realised the phone was there, so he had no choice but to throw it out of the window. It makes sense why there are no steps on her phone during that time. Then when he gets back to the house, he puts it straight into the car.

To me today was the first time I actually felt Alex was showing real human feelings when they showed and talked of Paul's terrible murder. I felt for a short time he was going to break and say no more I did it but unfortunately self preservation kicked in and pulled himself together and he put himself first yet again. The defence sure have an up hill battle to get over every thing Alex lied about and did. It's got to be a guilty from me
The reason he asked Maggie to be there, and she absolutely told her sister she didn’t want to go, was to go see his father. And also why in heavens name would anyone wait 5 hrs to see his mom, who he was told was very anxious, having a horrible time and refused to eat? 5 hrs???

GiGi tried to interview people and not one single person agreed to be on camera. I personally don't think the state proved its case, but even if they had a photo of Alex soaked in blood with a gun in his hand, I don't know that the jury would convict him. I think people are still afraid of the family.

For instance he lied about being at the kennel after his voice was heard on Paul’s video. So he was there after lying for 20 months that he wasn’t there. They have a lot more evidence than that. Direct evidence is not needed to get a conviction. Also a stranger killer would not know if cameras where on that 1,700 acre property but Alex knew he had no cameras. A stranger killer would have no idea if anyone in the house would drive to the kennel after hearing 7 gunshot. But Alex knew no other witnesses where around. He summoned Maggie and Paul to come there that evening. He basically called Blanca a liar saying he was at his moms for 40-45 min and she stated 20. Which was proven to be accurate based on car data and phone data. He tried to offer her money for her wedding also. He basically called the housekeeper a liar regarding the shirt he had on. Now he basically says they are lying. Not him the pathological liar. Hmmm no one has seen that shirt or shoes. Why wouldn’t he produce them to eliminate suspicion that was what he had on during the murders. Exact shell casings and bullets around and in the bodies was found all over his 1,700 acre property and in the house. I’m sure no unknown killer could pull that off. He also was asked by law enforcement did he think cousin Eddie did it or drug cartels and he said no. How does he know? He did say that it might be the family or boyfriend of the girl that died. And of course 90 counts of financial crimes was weighing heavily on him so all the pressure of being exposed was coming out in a big way. This is just a small portion of evidence. I hope he is found guilty but one juror could feel for his sobbing on the stand and his BS. They aren’t supposed to base their decision on sympathy but they could. So we’ll just have to wait now

I think I missed a few things…
1. Why did he bother tossing Maggie’s phone?
2. Was he trying to lure Rogan over to the property? Why?
3. He said, “I was going to do something with [Paul’s phone] but then I decided not to.” What was that about?
I question why he took the phone in the first place and believe Maggie had put her phone down on the golf cart and it wasn't until he started heading back to the house he realised the phone was with him, so he had no choice but to get rid of it. When it was on the golf cart, no steps were made and he pulled up next to his car and put it straight in the car to dispose while driving.
He never cried as the prosecutors said that Maggie was killed running to her baby. He did it
