  • My BMW E39 is a Rust DISASTER! Therefore I fixed the Rusty Rocker Panel in this video. It actually was pretty simple, although I've never done that before. Rusty rocker panels are a common problem on old BMWs (especially on BMW E39), and often requires basic metal repair and restoration.
If you're a car restoration enthusiast, then you'll want to watch this video! This repair is simple but can be time consuming, so be sure to have all the right tools and equipment on hand. And don't forget to wear a dust mask and gloves!
If you're interested in restoring or repairing old cars, then this video is for you.

Well, I'm going to now view all of these videos now to give me the motivation to fix my rusty E39!

Thanks for the video. Other videos that fixes this very common E39 issue never show what's behind all of the side skirt, they just show small portions of it. Gonna watch all your E39 restoration videos now, cause my E39 has similar issues, and if I'm gonna have to grind and weld, I might as well replace the whole side skirt instead of just patching small sections of it.

Thanks man, made my day! Hopefully you won't ever need it, but just in case I am going to upload a step by step video where I show how to fix rusty rocker panels on any car :)

@@TheE46Guy Looking forward to it! Yeah I hope I can get my E39 through inspections a few more times. I'm never getting rid of it. If it doesn't pass inspection, I'll just get another E39. I like this model too much to just give up on it :) I live in one of the Nordic countries, so inspections are a bit more lax when it comes to rust since all cars rust like hell up here due to the road salt in the winter. I think you can pass inspection with a 50 cm long rust hole in the side skirt as long as the jack point is at least somewhat solid.

How long did it take you to replace it?

Well, this was my first time doing something like that. I think shaping & welding the sill alone did take me about a week. The second sill was much faster. For removing the old sill, cutting the new one to fit properly & welding about 3 to 4 days.

@@TheE46Guy Allright, thanks! I am working on a E39 right now, and trying to determine to make it the easy and bad way or the hard and right way.. needs 2 rear fenders, 2 rocker panels and 2 front fenders ideally.. i have already welded up the floor 5 places. But that was the easy part.. 🤢

@@SuPr3meFX Wow...that's really a lot of work. Have you done something like this before? I've heard welding fenders ain't easy. I don't know if that's really true, but I hope it isn't as bad, because I need to do that too in a few weeks.😅😬
