Every video is like a poem, eloquently spoken, thoughtfully made, made for the fun of the speaker, not others, and an amazing work all around and wonderful to listen to.
Citizens: "Think we should speak up about the mayor? He leveled forty city blocks with no notice!" Other Citizens: "The man spent some money and replaced the ocean with land... YOU speak up against him." Citizens: "Oh yeah... he terrifies me."
oh yes... I remember playing this as a kid with my mom's laptop. installed it a few weeks ago and went to sites, am surprised this still has an active community of players. they helped me fix problems and install mods. I love simcity
The toughest goal is to get the space shuttle, which takes a ton of high tech industry, like, a ton. Ocean/river connections are nice for town connections so try keeping a tiny bit of water next time.
This video gives me life. I too played Sim City as a wee one... for untold stretches of time. Then 2000, 3000, and 4 - the crown jewel of the franchise. When starting 4, I spent hours just on the terrain generator. Then came the game that shall not be named. RIP Maxis.
Did you use any mods to correct traffic? I remember that was kind of broken in this game and made achieving highest density in the late game nearly impossible with all the gridlock
There is an error where if a loop exists between 4 cities a sim near the edge of town 1 will travel across the border for work, then across the corner between town 2 and 3, then through to 4 before appearing back in Town 1... before repeating. dependent on hiw often the towns were loaded. so the road says 1 car, then 2 cars increasing by 1 each time the city is loaded 200 cars on the loop becomes 400 cars then 600, then 800. any city boundary loop between the cities will end up in pure red with 32,767 cars... from one house.
There are quite a lot of mods for this game. One of them - the Network Addon Mod - fixes traffic problems, now allowing you to build high density cities
as someone who actually bought the game with money for the first time in life this year and played daily to get to 6+ million population in a single city and learned so many things about game mechanics... this commentary is pure comedy gold, i had to pause just to stop laughing omg ... epic!!!
Sim city 4 + The Sims were my favorite games back then. The music alone is so great. It's a shame EA destroyed Maxis. I refuse to buy any modern EA products.
Yeah... I loved the interconnectivity. You could use people from the Sims 1 to inhabit your town (in a limited function) and then the road maps in SimCity 4 could be used as neighbourhood layouts in The Sims 2...
dude, there is NO way. a few days ago, i watched old gameplays of this game to relieve some childhood memories, and now you've uploaded a video about it.
Vanilla Sim City has its fair share of glitches, especially with Sim pathfinding and crime, people not being able to work at high tech industry, job and housing demand across cities in the same region could also be wildly out of sync, and the game can get glitchy with corrupting your sims. Cities Skylines has more traffic and roadbuilding tools, is more stable, and more options for industries, offices and beautification.
Two minutes in and your inflections and mannerisms are comical to say the least. Reminiscent of a teenager/young adult that is just enjoying a silly old game EDIT: “the whole town was rampant with dumb” 😂
Fun Fact: If you are playing in city mode and you hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click on God Mode. You get the full God Mode tools rather the restricted set of tools in city mode! Also the terraforming tools are free too since it's the full God Mode. So there's that.
I was born in 93. Cities Skylines has been feeding that pulsating itch in my brain since I last played Sim City 4. Ahh, 4 discs to install a game. This took me back to those days I still yearn for. Cities is great, fantastic alternative, but you’ll never truly replace Sim City. Your video is fantastic and you had me engaged constantly. I'm going to have to reinstall this classic from my steam library and get reaquainted with it like an old friend.
To build a city from the literal ground up will be a fantastic feeling to have once again.
Good form, A.A. Good form.
Used to play this when I was 10-ish, I loved this revisit to a lovely past.
Every video is like a poem, eloquently spoken, thoughtfully made, made for the fun of the speaker, not others, and an amazing work all around and wonderful to listen to.
8:49 my favorite part, made me laugh through my nose
Citizens: "Think we should speak up about the mayor? He leveled forty city blocks with no notice!"
Other Citizens: "The man spent some money and replaced the ocean with land... YOU speak up against him."
Citizens: "Oh yeah... he terrifies me."
POV: You bought ocean front property for hundreds of thousands, and your mayor just announced that they’d be filling in the entire ocean: 👁👄👁
I looooved playing SimCity as kid! So many memories! Thank you for remembering me of this gem. I think I'm gonna spare some time to play it now.
I've listened to you say "Yeesh." five times and it still makes me laugh my ass off. Thank you for being you, reclusivereptile.
Best SimCity lets-play I've ever watched. The commentary? Chef's kiss.
As a Hoosier I was deeply offended by the slight you made towards Indianapolis.
oh yes... I remember playing this as a kid with my mom's laptop. installed it a few weeks ago and went to sites, am surprised this still has an active community of players. they helped me fix problems and install mods. I love simcity
Truly a timeless game. Right down to the police chief dabbing on you. Literally.
As a resident of Indianapolis- I took much less offense than I expected to the intro.
The toughest goal is to get the space shuttle, which takes a ton of high tech industry, like, a ton.
Ocean/river connections are nice for town connections so try keeping a tiny bit of water next time.
Words can't describe how much I love this game franchise.
Simcity 3000 has got to be my favourite version, really loved Jerry Martin’s music.
3k was amazing. Also came out during a great time, life is so much more dour these days
simcity 3000 and the sims 1 both had the best soundtracks imo
@@paramike97 can’t argue with that.
so *this* is where Armstrong got his cynical outlook and total disregard for life from... I didn't realize he came from next door to Indianapolis LOL
This game has the absolute best soundtrack of any game I've ever played. It's so nostalgic, so relaxing.
Sim city was my favorite game growing up, and now I do GIS work for civic planers.
I feel like the "Outianapolis" joke is underappreciated.
This video gives me life. I too played Sim City as a wee one... for untold stretches of time. Then 2000, 3000, and 4 - the crown jewel of the franchise. When starting 4, I spent hours just on the terrain generator. Then came the game that shall not be named. RIP Maxis.
Long live the dual kings of city builders: Sim City 4 and Cities: Skylines.
This video is amazing and really shows how some older games like the old simcity series can still be very entertaing
Did you use any mods to correct traffic? I remember that was kind of broken in this game and made achieving highest density in the late game nearly impossible with all the gridlock
There is an error where if a loop exists between 4 cities a sim near the edge of town 1 will travel across the border for work, then across the corner between town 2 and 3, then through to 4 before appearing back in Town 1... before repeating. dependent on hiw often the towns were loaded.
so the road says 1 car, then 2 cars increasing by 1 each time the city is loaded
200 cars on the loop becomes 400 cars then 600, then 800.
any city boundary loop between the cities will end up in pure red with 32,767 cars... from one house.
@@Human-hs8sp That's kind of awesome in an absurd way.
There are quite a lot of mods for this game. One of them - the Network Addon Mod - fixes traffic problems, now allowing you to build high density cities
@@GreenIsTheWayForward Now I just have to get SC4 to run on Win10 😅 and there's all my time gone...
as someone who actually bought the game with money for the first time in life this year and played daily to get to 6+ million population in a single city and learned so many things about game mechanics... this commentary is pure comedy gold, i had to pause just to stop laughing omg ...
You convinced me to play this game again. The best City Sim ever, more than Cities Skylines arguably.
I find it's got more charm and is more quirky, Citiies skylines is just quite bland in a lot of their buildings
@@frostyboi312 Can't agree more tbh.
@@bellairefondren7389 Fair point.
@@nathanebluepanda8207 Thanks!
Two minutes in and your inflections and mannerisms are comical to say the least. Reminiscent of a teenager/young adult that is just enjoying a silly old game
EDIT: “the whole town was rampant with dumb” 😂
this guy is like scooby if he had 30 more IQ points
So he has 0 IQ points?
That was a beautiful nostalgic throwback. Thank you. Well narrated with a heartfelt message
Fun Fact:
If you are playing in city mode and you hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click on God Mode. You get the full God Mode tools rather the restricted set of tools in city mode! Also the terraforming tools are free too since it's the full God Mode. So there's that.
That meta moment when you recognize the music because you to uploaded a video with it through youtubes music library....Neat!
Always happy to see a new upload :)
The fact that you speak with the inflection of an early microsoft speech synth makes this surprisingly entertaining.
POV: You live in California
So y’all know them 100 Minecraft days. I wanna see 100 years in sim city now lol
The amount of nostalgia that hit me with this is just indescribable
I was born in 93. Cities Skylines has been feeding that pulsating itch in my brain since I last played Sim City 4. Ahh, 4 discs to install a game. This took me back to those days I still yearn for. Cities is great, fantastic alternative, but you’ll never truly replace Sim City.
Your video is fantastic and you had me engaged constantly. Also you were spot on to include the soundtrack as your backing.
I miss this game. Thank you. I think this was the closest I’ll ever get to time travel.
Modern games today just won't be able to hold candle to the classics, games like SimCity 4 and the OG Zoo Tycoon will always reign supreme.
Just realized how much I would appreciate some ages of empire II content from your channel!
Thank you as always!
Nostalgia and childhood, man! I still have this game and proud of what I accomplished in it.
The music brings me right back to playing sim city on mobile back in the day. Good stuff
