This gives off the same vibe as Monty Python
“When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.”

SimThemePark had the same cheese strat with the Giant Puzzle sideshow. Wait for a peep to start playing, crank the fee to $10,000 simoleons, they pay once the game _ends_ (and immediately leave the park with more debt than my credit card has), then use the Apply-to-All button on an untampered Giant Puzzle to quickly reset the play fee before the next sucker walks up. 50 GOTO 10 until you hit a buhmillion in the bank. You could do this from day one in the Halloween theme since it started with Giant Puzzle unlocked, and could research it for Lost World and Space. Sadly, this wasn't possible in the Wonder Land theme because of the lack of Giant Puzzle sideshow, you had to play that park legit... and later patches capped all attractions to a max fee of $500.

Used to play Sim City 3000 on my POS Pentium 2 computer in my basement. It was so bad it could only BARELY play Sim City 3000. Whenever I'd start up the game it would hitch and sit there repeating the same 1 second loop of a saxophone for what felt like 1 min straight. I love thinking about that because in this day if I'm sitting for even 30 sec waiting on something to load I'm already starting to get annoyed but man when you're a child and that's one of the few video games you have you have all the patience in the world.
And then you'd realize how much you suck at the game so you enter in the "Call Cousin Vinny" cheat to get like 100,000 simolians and them put the White House and the Empire State Building next to each other and let a tornado hit them.
Classic ass fun. Plus I really love the soundtrack. Those jazzy saxophones are just beautiful!

As an '83 OG millenial the "awkward middle child" is actually my favorite. SimCity 4 might have much better economy, insane modding support and overall be considered "the best" but the region system is still too limiting imo. It runs awkward, it is clunky. And as charming as the genius second child of Will Right's master planning alter-ego is... 3000 improves upon it in every technical aspect.
It might not be unique, or daring, in fact it very well might be a prototype of Maxis' 4th Symphony, but SimCity 3000 shows a glimpse of an even better future, marred by limitations of its time and ultimately never realized.

SimCity 3000 was really the pinnacle of the 2000 formula, focused up all the weird parts, made it less finicky, definitely my preferred 'pure grid' builder. Also for some reason, SimCity3000 does way better on modern machines without any compatibility issues.
SimCity 4 is better in basically every regard though.

    • @davidmcgill1000
      @davidmcgill1000 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Because 3000 was made for 32-bit Windows which is still being kept compatible on 64-bit and DirectX had existed for a few years at that point. 2000 was made for 16-bit DOS and that compatibility was dropped for 64-bit.

    A few things:
-Build 4 of the dirtiest factory in each corner of the map
-Horizontally the largest building in each sector, then create a 1-tile moat around that, with a 1-tile bridge onto the closest main road. Repeat that pattern for that sector, with no more than 3 ways per junction.
-Remember that people physically cannot leave the island, and thus, are entirely at your mercy.

If I recall correctly, even if you don't have fire stations, you get one fire responder for free - from a neighboring city.
And in SimCity 3000, to raise a soft cap for population (which you encountered at 85k), I believe one needed to place certain buildings such as parks and hospitals.
Also power can be transmitted over a few tiles without those power lines, so you could do without them in your wind turbine farm.
And one more thing, you could use water towers for water, those can be placed anywhere and don't require fresh water.

Dude I just wanna say: I've been religiously watching your videos and VoDs for a few years now and I absolutely love your content. For me personally, it's hands down the best niche gaming channel on TH-cam.

Without fire stations, in SimCity 3000 you still have one dispatch.
Toxic waste plants, maximum security prisons, gigamalls and casinos (facilities from business deals to being revenue) require water. If you’d built two water towers or pumps next to the toxic waste site you’d have been fine.

SC3kU holds a very special place in my heart. I had a non-trivial percentage of my life invested in that game back when I was 12.
I had the official game guide. It was a literal book that was over an inch thick.

Still have a copy of it from gog so I could keep playing it in this now digital world.

I am a bit amused at land bridges for power lines, because you could build power lines over water in this game, a bit fiddly to do, but you can.
