SimThemePark had the same cheese strat with the Giant Puzzle sideshow. Wait for a peep to start playing, crank the fee to $10,000 simoleons, they pay once the game _ends_ (and immediately leave the park with more debt than my credit card has), then use the Apply-to-All button on an untampered Giant Puzzle to quickly reset the play fee before the next sucker walks up. 50 GOTO 10 until you hit a buhmillion in the bank. You could do this from day one in the Halloween theme since it started with Giant Puzzle unlocked, and could research it for Lost World and Space. Sadly, this wasn't possible in the Wonder Land theme because of the lack of Giant Puzzle sideshow, you had to play that park legit... and later patches capped all attractions to a max fee of $500.

As an '83 OG millenial the "awkward middle child" is actually my favorite. It might not be unique, or daring, in fact it very well might be a prototype of Maxis' 4th Symphony, but SimCity 3000 shows a glimpse of an even better future, marred by limitations of its time and ultimately never realized.

SimCity 3000 was really the pinnacle of the 2000 formula, focused up all the weird parts, made it less finicky, definitely my preferred 'pure grid' builder. Also for some reason, SimCity3000 does way better on modern machines without any compatibility issues. SimCity 4 is better in basically every regard though.
Because 3000 was made for 32-bit Windows which is still being kept compatible on 64-bit and DirectX had existed for a few years at that point. 2000 was made for 16-bit DOS and that compatibility was dropped for 64-bit.

A few things: -Build 4 of the dirtiest factory in each corner of the map -Horizontally the largest building in each sector, then create a 1-tile moat around that, with a 1-tile bridge onto the closest main road. Repeat that pattern for that sector, with no more than 3 ways per junction. -Remember that people physically cannot leave the island, and thus, are entirely at your mercy. Can’t wait to see you in 2189!
If I recall correctly, even if you don't have fire stations, you get one fire responder for free - from a neighboring city. And in SimCity 3000, to raise a soft cap for population (which you encountered at 85k), I believe one needed to place certain buildings such as parks and hospitals. Also power can be transmitted over a few tiles without those power lines, so you could do without them in your wind turbine farm. And one more thing, you could use water towers for water, those can be placed anywhere and don't require fresh water.
