    I really love Westinghouse generators, their brand has been around for at least 100-years. I too have noticed that home stationary backup generators can easily cost 10 grand or more. The biggest difference between them and a portable one, is the stationary units run on natural gas, and they have a constant rating duty cycle. Where as the portable ones can run on gasoline or propane, depending on which model you choose, and some are even tri-fuel, but they do have a duty cycle, and require shutdown once in awhile to cool down.

      I know all about generator safety: everyone really needs to keep generator safety in mind. Please remember not to run your generator indoors and please keep in mind that carbon monoxide is not safe. Carbon monoxide can kill you in minutes. Please keep your children safe when you’re using portable generators so your children don’t get electrocuted and hurt with the generator. Please keep your generator 20 feet away from your house. Do not even store your generator in the garage or in any living areas in your house. Do not try to plug in a generator cord to a wall outlet which can cause fire hazards. Never run your generator in wet conditions which can electrocute you th-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/w-d-xo.html and here is a video about generator safety and keeping your family safe while using generators. Just reminding everyone to be careful and hope you stay safe.

    What I want to know is how do I modify the control cable to work with an actual automatic transfer switch that would in turn power an entire house panel via the 50A outlet? Can't seem to find the wiring schematic anywhere.

      Now that would be great.

      Did you figure this out would only care for the automatic part for the whole house since the portable ones are cheaper than standby and its long permit waiting times.

    This is a great idea, but there’s one issue. Typically the needle and float don’t fail on carburetors. that being said, if it ever does all that gasoline will flow into your oil and that would be a bad day

    Do they make this setup for an RV from shore power?

    good day. I would like to know how to turn off the generator automatically when the power comes on. in my case a WGen7500. Thank you.

    i know its just a demonstration but also the smart transfer switch should not be plugged into a gfci outlet

    Is there any way to have more than one smart switch on a generator. Being able to power a furnace and refrigerator would be idle in case of power loss while not home.

    I have been looking at generators and different setups and I saw a w 9500 model that claims that it has two settings for 30a and 50A and in my search i found that the 50 amp was discontinued anybody know what's up the sight has no reference. at home depot for 300$ more than the other 9500 that i have seen.from 899 to 1000 .

    What about backfeed it seems to me you would still have to turn off your main just asking

    • @Mr-Chris
      @Mr-Chris  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, it won't backfeed so long it's connected to the ST switch. Unless you connect the generator to the house using another transfer switch, then yes you gotta turn off the main breaker, but if you're only using the ST switch, you won't have to worry about backfeed.

    That outlet won't power an entire home. Try again.

  • @jonathanmaddock6824
    @jonathanmaddock6824 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can't use that full time. The generator stop - start switch has to be left on start. That runs down the battery.
    Very limited use.

    • @Mr-Chris
      @Mr-Chris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ST switch actually charges the battery so it never drains. Leaving it on all the time with the ST switch connected won't drain the battery.

    • @jonathanmaddock6824
      @jonathanmaddock6824 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mr-Chris well, that's better than I thought. Will a whole house automatic transfer switch be able to do the same? That would be even more cool!

      Everyone should stop running generator indoors because it’s not safe. Here’s an advice about generator safety and keeping your family safe th-cam.com/video/I1jT3ANENvI/w-d-xo.html just hoping you stay safe. Thank you

    ST Transfer Switch $299 and Generator $1099=$1500. It's still not the most cost effective solution for me. You still cannot entire house with it, might as well install a transfer switch. Limited use to Westinghouse brand. Sure it's an alternative. Thanks.

      WH9500/12500 $1000 + ST switch $300 =1400 with taxes
      Similar wattage 10kw Standby generator with ATS and installation = $4200

    Who cares about emerging power for a sump pump? I would need it to plug in to a gas furnace and gas water heater. Can you show how to set it up for that synerio?

    • @Climax510
      @Climax510 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He did show how your water heater and other necessities would work once the Gen is on and both cables are installed correctly. It’s like having a suicide cable connected to the generator but instead of using the 220 socket/ suicide cable option this transfer switch and a heavy gaged extension chord this transfer switch allows you to plug that extension cable to any 110 outlet in your entire house which then would power the home.
