Camper Van Conversion of Mercedes 814 LN2 Fire Truck with Ziegler LF8 Crew Cabin and OM 366

- This video introduces our base vehicle which we are converting to a camping truck. The base truck is a Mercedes 814 LN2 from the german fire department in Zolling by Munich, which we purchased after it's retirement after more than 30 years of service. The double drivers cabin (Doka) or more exact the crew cabin is ideal for converting into a large bed with option for an inside seating area. The rear of the truck will become the sleeping quarter. Currently we are installing electric and heating in the truck. The next step will be the conversion of the rear part.
In this video we also show parts of our first two short trips to Alsace and the Schwäbische Alb. Eventually we plan to use this truck for overlanding the Americas from North to South.
Deutsch: In diesem Video stellen wir das Basis Fahrzeug vor, das wir zu einem Wohnmobil umbauen. Die Fahrzeugbasis ist ein Mercedes 814 LN2 von der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr in Zolling bei München. Wir haben dieses Fahrzeug nach über 30 Jahren Einsatz bei der Feuerwehr erstanden. Die doppelte Fahrerkabine ist ideal zum Einbau für ein großes Bett, welches auch zum Sitzbereich umgebaut werden kann. Der hintere Teil des LKW wird auch ein Schlafbereich werden. Momentan installieren wir die Elektrik mit LiFePo4 batterien und eine günstige Standheizung aus China. Als nächster Schritt wird der Ausbau der Ziegler Kabine, hinten, folgen. In diesem Video zeigen wir auch Teile unserer Kurzreise ins Elsass und in die Schwäbische Alb.
Unser Ziel ist es, mit diesem Wohnmobil den amerikanischen Kontinent von Nord nach Süd zu bereisen.

OurOldTruck hi! Me, Susi, found your video :-) Bill visited us at the Willys, funny that you know hin as well 😃 if we would not plan our truck for fulltime living we surely would keep it more simple as well. But if everything works out as planned we will live in it for 10 or more years so we plan it really like our home now, just in wheels. We surely will be at the Willy’s this year as well, so maybe we really can meet for a beer.
We have been at the Southside 2018 because our truck was on display at the stand of the boxmanufaktur, but did not visit last year again....Cheers Susi
OurOldTruck great idea that a fire truck comes through every street 😉 almost got stuck in north England, but you are right, most time it fits. We have the Floh since 2017 so for us it is a hobby as well. As already said, we will keep in touch! Maybe somehow in the Future we all meet in Colorado 😃
