I just upgraded from a 2015 fz09 to a 2017 fz10 and thought the modes were like the fz09. I went for a spin in B mode around my neighborhood thinking it was the 'B'eginner mode like on my fz09. Oof.. I had a heck of a time keeping it under 30... Thanks for the video, you're helping out chumps like me
There are four modes on the 2018 MT10SP. A, B, C, D and three power modes 1,2,3. 1 is the most agressive. You can match any 'power mode' and 'TC' to A, B, C, or D, depending on the road conditions. All can be programmed on the TFT dash as well and dampening and rebound.
Agreed, it’s pretty simple “Standard, “A”ggressive, “B”east mode throttle reaction settings they all serve their purpose. I think I saw the video you mentioned. For powerful bikes throttle control is vital for sure. I learned to use lots of finesse from riding my Fireblade all it takes is a twitch a small mistake to get it wrong hopefully not in a critical moment.
Thank for explaining bro ,its all about the Mode and hand response ,i ride in Standard Mode i find it clean non jerky ,cause i like winding it on ,cheers
I watched this video before picking up my MT-10. the guy who sold it to me (at a Yamaha dealership!) told me I should put it in B mode first because it was the lowest setting according to him.
I agree. Most aggressive mode only shortens how much you to twist the throttle for full power. Not gd for street driving, Sneeze and you'll be looking at the sky. But gd for motorways. Less aggressive mode shite for motorways if you want full power. Sometimes i found myself not getting full throttle. Too much twist.
Hi mate, I have just bought the mt10 here in Scotland. 2018 model, I only have riding modes 1,2 & 3. I’m having trouble understanding other videos on which number is better. Am I right in saying 1 should be better on the mt10? I can’t seem to find the a & b modes on mines tho, just 1,2 & 3. Same with the traction control modes
Thank you for posting this video! I think I know the video your talking about. I couldn't believe how stupid he sounded when he was giving that false info on the throttle modes. Just like you said B mode and standard are like night and day hands down. I live in CA Bay Area and pretty much ride standard street and A mode freeway. Our roads are not as bad as yours on the east but B mode I'll save for the track or twisties.
I know! People were driving me nuts with this stuff. If you have this bike and ride it, you can see a big difference in throttle modes. The problem is these people ride the bike for 10 minutes and then post these videos and they are giving the people a complete false sense of everything.
Hi, In England this bike is called a MT10, I have just bought this bike and in the user manual in D mode 1 is most aggressive 2 is normal and 3 is less aggressive, I think the British version of this bike is different to the American one
I also ride on the lowest power mode on my 2020 MT10. I forgot which year exactly Yamah switched the mode from STD, A, and B, but my MT10 uses mode 1 for max, 2 for normal, and 3 for "rain" mode which is where I ride 90% of the time.
Well explained. I totally agree. Maybe you just watched some videos of MT09 which is a bit different and goes like this: B, STD, A (starting from the lowest setting). IN mt10 it's just STD, A, B and B is crazy, i totally agree. I've just started riding it 3 days ago and i'm trying to figure out what changes when we switch between different modes. I would say probably not only throttle reaction, but it's just my feeling. When i use QS on STD mode, exhaust sounds very good, but in B mode when I really push it, it's sounds amazing and you can hear it sounds different while changing gears (this cool "prrrr" sound between gears) :)
One minor correction to your explanation. Again is minor. Switching modes do not change the TPS reading, just the relationship between TPS and how much the butterflies open and how quickly, and all is commanded by the ECU
Correct. TPS is connected to the throttle bodie(s) to tell the computer how far the throttle bodie(s) are opened up. The modes are just changing the input to the throttle body actuator. OP isn't wrong, but he's not 100% technically correct.
I like insane, brutal, twitchy high power liter bikes and I know how to be smooth with a dangerous throttle. That said I jumped from a Fireblade to FZ10 today, put it in B mode and hit some twisties. Twice during my ride the FZ10 gave unpredictable, unintuitive off-on 100% throttle at inappropriate times and tried to throw me off. The FZ10 power is awesome but B is bucking bull mode.
Indeed. I put it in A mode and let it stay there, unless i find a nice smooth road and feel like i want my kidneys ripped out of my back by the G-forces :) The B mode for me is a reminder why i love this bike. Whenever im thinking about swapping it for something else i put it in B mode and lose all interest in ever getting rid of it.
This is what happens when a guy who didn't make it through college algebra (or really didn't pay attention) tries to understand an engineering concept. It's not just switching a simple throttle map function, e.g., y=x, y=x^2, or some log(x)+1... It's also not the much dumber y=1.2x, y=1.333x described here where... you would just lose the last 25% of the throttle because you are already wide open at 3/4 throttle. ...put it in STD, get moving in 2nd gear, pull throttle all the way back as fast as you can. I'm betting you didn't just loop the bike. I'm betting the wheel didn't even come off the ground. Tell me if you think that bike is actually running wide open for the first 1 or even 3 seconds. Throttle input is being smoothed/dampened, in STD it's being smoothed a LOT, so much that you'll have the throttle pinned for 2 seconds and still not actually be wide open. MAXY famously struggled to wheelie an MT-10 -- he had to clutch it to get it to come up in 1st -- he didn't know that A-Mode was spoiling his fun. You think that guy doesn't know how to open a throttle? Or do you suppose there's a bit more going on?
totally different on the sp version. a mode is the most aggressive. and lighter as the letter goes up. also the number settings are the most aggressive at 1 and so on
I have an FZ10 and agree. Some of these reviews are painful to watch. I ride standard 90% of the time and A 10%. With all the potholes and bumps in Saint Louis, B is too difficult to ride smoothly.
CookieMonster the Rider yeah it’s ridiculous that the dealers don’t even know what they are selling. I don’t know how sales people get a job in the motorcycle world
Mine too. So many variations between fz 10 and mt 10 and 16- 18 plates. Mine is a 17plate 1 is wheelie with just touching the throttle. 2 touchy. But fine. 3 lowest setting , relaxed.
@@johnakyle5908 i ride her on mode 3 and still get her up 1st then shift to 2nd while the wheel is up .......... mode 3 your pockets will thank you ! mode 1 the gasoline doesnt last ,.....
you should all ride in b mode you get used to it and other modes just feel wrong isnt snatchy throttle its power thats the mode i ride 2 up as well, 160hp all the time .
adrian tompson every throttle mode has 160hp. Standard and A still give you the 160 horse it’s just how the throttle position sensor controls the throttle input.
quicker sorry first comment didnt read very good we all no they all make 160bhp b mode is the way to go if you can ride a bike you get used to it, have a look at my vids b mode rules.
Karva kaos honestly any mode on this bike is great. If your thinking about buying it don’t let the modes make your decision for you. Once you learn how to ride this bike to its potential modes really don’t matter anymore.
I have an MT10 and I have no idea what the TC levels do. I’d especially like to know what level wheelies are allowed in each setting. My 2018 has throttle modes 1,2&3 which swaps the order around to a less confusing order.
I know this is way late, just bought 2021 MT-10. This video helped me TREMENDOUSLY. Thank you! I feel much better now.
Thanks for the info. Just bought a 17 myself.
Just picked this bike up. Loving it. This video had me laughing for sure. Great job man. Honest and accurate info.

Unless you've had it flashed, your throttle plates aren't coming even close to being fully open most of the time with "full throttle".

Seth Glenn OP said it incorrectly.
The roads where I live are very bumpy, makes B mode almost impossible to use.
Get them bro 😎 😂😂😂

yep great video...Just saw another guy on TH-cam saying that A is the sportiest and B the smoothest mode lol

Bruh, I’ve been riding in B mode since I left the dealership. Mechanic said it was the safest mode
Yeah dude...my fz10 in B mode wants to kill me

Actually the way i explain it is the mode switch simply changes the throttle map
B mode feels wayyyyy twitchier than standard
My MT 10 doesnt even have A,B or Std. It has 1,2 and 3. Even the dealership didnt know what mode did what...

Yes they changed modes from A STD B to 1 2 3. And yes now 1 is the crazyest 2 its middle and 3 soft-rain oposite and reversed from 16 model mt10/fz10
check the manual that comes with the bike

Guess they fixed it on the 2018+. My 2018 MT10 is 1-2-3 1 being most aggressive. Easier to understand.
My mt doesn’t say abcd just 1,2,3 and traction on or off
Because they changed the modes when they went from the FZ to the MT. They only made the FZ for one year in 2017.
@@therealmuddawg all see that makes sense lol I’m like Wth!?🤣
Just bought a 2018
Thankyou geezus!!!! I cant stand it either bud!
i wish i had seen this b4 i test rode it the dealer told me A mode was the best i didnt even put it in B mode might have to go back and try B mod

the real muddawg yea have to say it’s a awesome bike I picked mine up just over a week ago and I love it

explain the traction controls now please!
