  • Making a first attempt at inlaying a marquetry picture with veneers. Definitely not a tutorial! Apologies for not filming the whole build, but I think this was the most interesting detail.

      @@GillisBjork Its always nice to hear that and im glad you are enjoying the videos. Im always impressed with your woodwork and honestly i think you should be getting a lot more attention on here. It really shows that you can do quality woodwork without having a huge workshop and big power tools.

    Your tip at 9:08 as simple as it was, I've never thought of. Great tip. I've only tinkered around with inlay on smaller projects and never struck out on something as large as your table there. This is going to be extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing.

    I have done quite a bit of this type of inlay using a specialized router with fine down cut spiral bits. Doing it by hand requires incredible patience. I have tried it your way with limited success. And it’s very time consuming.

    Recently attended an inlay class where we used these for glue application - Monoject Curved 412 Tip Syringes 12 Cc. You might find them useful for future projects. All the best.

    Thanks for the detailed inlay segment. I’ve down inlay with straight lines and will attempt my first curved inlay soon. I use a power router for the interior of the field to be removed, hand tools as you did for the boarders.

    • @GillisBjork
      @GillisBjork  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, Benjamin! That's an old type of router plane. There are also metal ones with more functionality, and you can make a super simple version by drilling a hole at 45 degrees through a block of wood and shoving a chisel through.

  • @jimscheltens2647
    @jimscheltens2647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did you take the inlay parts right from the fret saw, or did you do some sanding after the sawing out?

    • @GillisBjork
      @GillisBjork  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly right from the saw, some spots I took a sliver off with a chisel. And a few strokes of sanding to break the edge that goes into the cavity.
