      I'm not sure about that, since TSW was all about the writing and layered lore. This seems far more emergent gameplay focussed. It's cool to see other games embracing this kind of atmosphere though.

    From my playtime with Once Human, Energy Link isn't an energy system, it's the ingame currency. easily acquired anywhere on the map basically, some events (coming from the pve mining cave event in level 23 zone) gave me 2000 energy links in less than a minute.
    Game definitely needs polishing but it's alot of fun!
    Edit: reason why i made the comment is because in the video they're calling it a energy system which to me seems very misleading. Energy links is your most basic form of ingame currency.

      They can easily reduce the energy you can aquire freely or increase energy cost.
      most games will incrementally ramp up the energy cost, so that you can easily play till lets say lvl 40 and then, when you are hooked everything gets expensive. And all the late, endgame content costs so much energy that you have to open your wallet

  • @Alvis183
    @Alvis183 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ok some of asmon's concern are valid and here are some explanation-
    food system- Food and hydration drain is pretty rough and you'll spend atleast 5 mins a day to hunt/gather food sources. there are ways to make it less grindy but it is something nonetheless. As per the food buff thing there are buffs in purple and gold tier foods which you aquire through exploration. These give you various buffs like increased stamina, dmg, movement speed etc.
    base and fortification- some times while exploring you'll get things like "Extraction permit" and "Cortex". You will have to purify those in the stardust resonator that you build in your base. During the purification waves of monsters will attack the base in order to stop the purification. You'll also enter pvp state so anyone can come and kill you to get the loot. Base upgrade and fortifications help massively in this area.
    energy system- there are two types of energy system in the game. Star cronch and star link. Starlink is your avarage currency system and you get more than enough of those through daily tasks. On the other hand you get starcronch through either seasonal goals or purification as mentioned in the point above. These starcronches are the currency you use for gacha(yes there is also a gacha system). As of now the devs have said that game will not be p2w but time will tell if that's true or not.

    This food/water system is technically the same as Valheim though. Thing is that Valheim you start off starving with low hp/energy and you don't see negatives, you only see positives. This just shows you the negatives.
    No food/drink = you have lower hp, lower energy, you can spring to shorter time. Exactly like Valheim. Don't know if starving/thirst can make you actively lose HP like Minecraft though, but other than that it's the same, but without showing negatives/debuffs.

    While I understand people’s skepticism in the context of the day before scam and the fact that survival games are kinda a dime a dozen these days, the game is an absolute blast. There’s a reason that all of the negative comments are almost exclusively coming from people that haven’t played it. The game was in open beta but had to go to closed beta because it got so popular through word of mouth that it overloaded the beta servers. The devs said they anticipated 20k players and ended up with over 100k. Keep in mind this happened with almost no real marketing other than the one shitty trailer asmongold watched

    Energy is pretty much like their money system. You can get a lot from selling items you crafted.
    Food and certain activities also affects your characters weight which isn't really noticeable unless you eat way too much of a specific type food. For example if you created a really fat character so you can have more weight carry but mostly just eat fruits and veggies while doing a lot of gathering and running, then overtime you will lose weight. I disagree with the idea that food and drink should only provide buffs and not be a survival mechanic.
    In open world survival games there is alot of just running around, collecting resources and doing repeated tasks. Adding mechanics that interrupt that stops the cycle from getting boring. So by becoming hungry and thirsty you will end up going on a mission to either retrieve food and water, or create a sustainable food system of your own, which adds a gameplay loop to occasionally help break the cycle of resource gathering.
    It also just makes sense. Youre trying to survive, it feels weird just going without food and water in a game about survival. In other game genres it isnt required, but in survival games it absolutely is

  • @Xannon1
    @Xannon1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I know my comments not relevant, but my issue with base building in modern survival games is the lack of reason. In some survival games, building a secure base actual felt important, because there was a threat and a need to have a save place to do things. Most of these style of games now lack the need to feel safe. You can just build everything on the ground and there is very little threat of your property or yourself being attacked. The reward of base building was that of safety. However, I agree Valheim did a very good job of giving it a rewarding aspect outside of safety, because you didn't really need to feel safe at your base in that game either.

    That Trout is exactly what you think it is... you can beat people with the trout. You lose 5 sanity for every time you hit someone with it, but in return you gain 5 psi energy which makes the special attack (psi attack) stronger and last longer based on the amount of psi you have. I unlocked that the other day and laughed my ass off at the thought of dropping someone in pvp with a Trout slap. Also in response to that energy system, you can gain that off the 8 dailies given out in each city (each city has 8 dailies so that is multiplicative and not a set 8 only) and doing random world events/quests.

Some things need some work but overall I have loved the time I have spent with this game and will carry on spending until the beta ends late January. I can see this being a contender for one of the most played games next year easily, I have put in probably around 50-60 hours already and I am still only 2/5 main bosses in. Tonnes of side quests to do, tonnes of exploration content, the crafting systems, building, world events, PvP zones, boss fights and so much more to uncover.

    For those that asking if you guys can create a citadel? Yes. You can, there is a mechanic in the game where player join a massive collection of Hives(Squad) which is called Warbands(Guilds). Basically your Warband can just like claim the whole area of the map and proceed to build structures on the area and just claim the whole area for your whole Warband and make its your Warband territory. Noone can build on it except you guys. Some guys are already doing it although still on small scales, the freedom this game gives you is just awesome.

    I think it clearly needs some polish. But I think most are absolutely fine with it.
    Considering this game is set to be released 2024 Q4.
    The state it is in just now is already WAY better than most beta games out there.
    I would love the movement to be a bit smoother, the vehicle movement to def be smoother it feels too clunky right now.
    Placement for building bases needs to be less annoying, also give us free cam building.
    Expansion of territory space would be great to see, just a bit would be great.
    I think certain quests should be made clearer for players.
    New players easily get confused about the rift anchor part.

    The guilds are called warbands and can have 64 players, but for some reason there is also 4 player hives. You have to be a hive leader to apply for warband. A lot of end game progression (calibration ) mats are in the PvP content, and the PvP, while fun, needs to be optimized a lot. Very unfortunate that ForceGamingYT did not do a single event in his 20 hours of play. Probably just alientaed 75% of potential players because of the energy concern when that is very easily solved by doing the world events that occur frequently, which give you a flat 1-3k energy for about 10 minutes of gameplay. It's not that I don't like customizing my character to be sturdier or have more stam, it's that you have to reapply the 3 buffs CONSTANTLY or u are basically a limp noodle. I would rather start out a usable character and then have buffs on top of that as a perk, more like the V Rising blood system.

The boss fights are fun but they are bullet spongey, specially with 2+ people. Maybe those could be fine tuned but if they have another year to work on this, I can see this game being a major hit. Edit: Yes the melee combat could use a little fine tuning/work, but its serviceable and the guns are the main focus. 6:42 thirst and hunger are the "Sacred Cow" of survival games, its put into the games just to be able to say that its a survival game. the biggest problem with the food/water system is in nearly every single game that includes it, the system becomes a complete afterthought where you are forced to click on a food/water every X amount of time just so you can go back to ignoring that system for another X amount of time, very few games have been able to sculpt that system into something actually interesting instead of something you're forced to do just because.
    Valheim was mentioned but if you really take the time to review their food system, you are still forced to get the food buffs anytime you want to adventure

    hunger is to prevent campers sitting in the one spot for hours on end. with hunger eventually u will need to go get more food or drink or u can only take so much food and ammo and still have space in inventory

    Moving territory as you progress in the map. Map is divided into areas. each area main goals is to loot farm specific materials to craft better gear and new constronction features. that will allow you to fight the boss of the area. so you need to move your territory often. you have main territory and you have small camp and settlements which are NPC areas. all these are spawn points. the best when going to a stronghold is to get a camp (small) to use as respawn to get faster to stronghold in case you die. the map is huge not easy to get back.

    This game is yes. That's the best way to describe it. I have 60+ hours into it and am currently capped. There are some issues with a few resources for crafting. Acid is used in a lot of the things you need, such as heals, smelting, and ammo. You'll find yourself farming mobs a lot. Food crafting will give buffs, you get pets for your house that will produce resources used for character enhancements, and you have vehicles that you can upgrade. Also, you can move your base wherever you want (6 hour c/d after hitting lvl 25).

You can make energy like walk in a park... you just boost up your weapon and go to second boss and with propper dmg you can kill it with 3-4 magazines which is like 1 minute fight or less, and BOOM you get 960 energy, reapeat that a couple of times and you are set for major of playtime, so don't worry about that, only gatcha thing is Wish Machine which rolls rare blueprints if you are lucky where you spend stardust which in fact is little and i mean LITTLE harder to obtain, still no microtransaction for it you just play and get it. And what is the difference between the food system you like and the food system you don't like? In the one you don't like you have 100 health by default, you don't eat and drop down to 80 health until you eat again and go back to 100 (you call that a punishment), and in the one you like you start with 80 health, eat to go up to 100, until it runs out and you drop down to 80, then you have to eat again to go back to 100.. • @professorplunge7705
    @professorplunge7705 ปีที่แล้ว

    The mechanics of thirst / hunger i think runs on a case to case basis.. In DayZ for example i feel it's absolutely dumb. You spawn in, starving, no food anywhere because what miniscule amount of it exists on the map is already looted and you'll die to it before any undead threat. Even if you have a backpack full of food you'll still need to eat every 5 real minutes or so else you're plagued with the dreaded hunger gargle.. frankly it's horrible. In PZ however, it wins on so many levels; it affects your other attributes i.e carry weight, stamina etc etc and motivates you to keep actively playing but isn't so aggregious you'll die within 10mins of starting a run. Custom and dynamic cooking recipes in PZ are always a joy to craft and make it more of a feature than a mandatory do-or-die mechanic. Balance it enough so it's not the central focus of the gameplay loop and it's usually enjoyable.

    I played in this beta and the last beta. They've made a ton of changes to the food system I don't like - you used to be able to get crafting, gathering or melee buffs with the food itself. Now there's different buffs for the food later on in the game but it feels more punishing to try and make it (amount of ingredients/time to gather them all).
    Stamina is new - but again not in your face so its okay.
    Weight system which makes me feel like I need to each more, but my character is 1KG so not much to do now lol.
    Bosses are instanced dungeons that you can go in with a group of 4, so you can't fight them on the open world. However, there are other public events throughout the map you can do with anyone
    They took out a ton of ways to get weapon blueprints since February, and just different type of weapons now don't exist that feel required to do certain content that forces elemental types
    I do love the game, as I've spent over 100 hours in last beta and this one combined and I am sad on some of the systems I enjoyed got removed. Only time will tell what the Gacha system and other things will do or how they'll impact the gameplay, right now - it ain't it.
