Brilliant first video mate, much better than my first attempts. Keep this up and there will be big things to come I'm sure! You've taught me a new word too 'capricious' LOL and I think someone has been watching too much simply railway... 'square seats' lol seriously tho, great job, I'm very impressed for a first attempt! I've subscribed. Btw were you on the way back from pacer bashing? 😅
Actually, that's how we say it in France ("sièges en carré")! I guess I assumed it was the same in English😅 Yeah, I had spent the morning in Cardiff, not particularly for Pacers but I did get one or 2 anyways! Really appreciate the comments my friend and I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Dude the video is actually excellent. One of those in which i can watch all the way through. The 175s do looks good, and probably worth riding. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video I enjoyed it as I have travelled that line several times. I agree with the comment on the stations- I would have liked to see more. Also what happened to Ludlow and Newport?
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't film every station I stopped at - that's why some stations such as Ludlow didn't feature in the video. Newport is the station before Cwmbran, so my train actually came from there.
A few pointers if that's okay: (1) Earlier in the video you said the journey would remain in England from that point on, then later you say you cross back over the border twice lol (2) It would've been nice to see a bit more footage of the stations, which feel like a bit of an afterthought (3) The windows were dirty so not the clearest images (not your fault of course!). But on the whole an enjoyable vid and I have subscribed :)
Indeed we did remain in England. The line from which we diverge at Shrewsbury, which continues onto Chester, goes via Wrexham therefore it must cross the border - however that wasn't the line we took, we went towards Crewe so we stayed in England. It's difficult to include all the stations since I can't film unlimited footage but I'll do my best to include more about them! And yeah, I'm not a fan of the look of those windows, either... Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for subscribing! Thanks for the feedback also, it really helps 👍
Shame that Transport for Wales is to replace the Class 175 Coradia DMUs as they are to replace it with the Class 197 Civity DMUs coming into service very soon.
Maybe the Class 175 could be cascaded to other train operators who want them to increase capacity. Such as Great Western Railway that might inherit them and to use them in the Bristol area and in Devon & Cornwall.
@TV Branding Hub they would be increasing capacity on some routes and reducing it on others because there will be more carriages in the class 197 fleet than the current fleet but the 197s have less seats than the 158s. Also, the 197s have the same uncomfortable seats as the Hitachi 800s apparently. What REALLY makes no sense though is that the class 197s would be a large fleet (77 units) of mechanical diesel units - this means they cannot make use of electrification (like TfW's current fleet, but the 158s only have around 10 years life left in them and the 175s have 20 years; the 197s would have their whole 35 year life ahead of them taking us to nearly 2060 before we can make use of electrification). That is a massive waste of our limited carbon budget - TfW seriously need to extend the lease on the 158s and 175s and cut the number of 197s ordered massively.
@@trainlagged Lots of different types of diesel train at the moment... I'm not sure whether the 769s count as diesel trains or bi-modes since TfW took the pantographs off. The new trains coming in include battery-electric-diesel 'tri-modes' for part of the Cardiff Metro which is being electrified.

Means a lot, thank you! :)
These are good units. I've been on one when I was in Wales and I'm making a trip to Crewe soon with EMR, so I hope I'll spot one of them.
Yep, they're perfect for the jobs they do.👌

@@trainlagged Apologies for my mistake. I look forward to your forthcoming videos, thank you.
Great Video mate, definitely a great video to start your channel, can't wait to see more!
Nice video love that old man
Glad you liked it!
Yep I always go here

I agree, what a waste, but I think since they are leased they cannot keep them indefinitely.
Maybe the Class 175 could be cascaded to other train operators who want them to increase capacity. Such as Great Western Railway that might inherit them and to use them in the Bristol area and in Devon & Cornwall.
@@trainlagged they could extend the lease, unless another TOC has snuck in and leased them

I live at Cwmbrân ooo
It's quite nice!
I know
Neither very streamlined-what must those flat fronted trains cost in wasted energy pushing it through the air?
The river you cross 3 times is the Monnow, not the Monmouth. Nice video though.
Ah thanks for the precision!
Is that the Diesel train?
Yep! Transport for Wales only have diesel trains since the vast majority of the Welsh network is unelectrified.
@@trainlagged looks nice.

175 seats more comfortable than Hitachi 800.
Agreed. On sections of line where both operate (Newport - Cardiff - Swansea - Carmarthen), I'd much rather a 175.
