  • The 3 major chainsaw brands are ECHO, HUSQVARNA and STIHL. Today I run a tank through 3 of the best of each brand and talk about my likes dislikes what is unique about all 3. They all are great saws The Stihl MS 500i is an awesome chainsaw that was hard to get for a while and is still in high demand and has a high price! The Husqvarna 592xp is a powerful screamer that can cut any wood fast that you can find! The ECHO CS 7310P has a 5 year warranty and costs way less than the others! Let's get cutting!

I love it when I get into a pile like that and get the cuts lined up so you can cut down through 4 logs without stopping. It makes wood cutting go so much faster. Those saws were eating up that little stuff. Makes wood cutting even more fun.

Best saw i ever had is the one thats in my hands , running and cutting !! Have had blue ones, yellow ones, red ones orange ones... you take care of them, they usually do what they're supposed to do... Husky is a little smoother on the vibration... My opinion only after 55 years of cuttin and foolin around with wood

Hi Chris, I've been running Husqvarnas for fifty years. Never had a single problem. My old 380CD still runs like a clock. Shalom/gw. PS I was a Husqvarna dealer for eight years. Never had any troubles there either. Only follow up sales were bars, chains and oil. I would require my customers to take my training course before they could buy their saws, professionals were exempted of course, but new, first time users were appearciative.

I've had all three brands too, but I've been truly satisfied with my Echo 590, as well as the identical one I found on the side of the road. Great video. I am a mostly Stihl man. Until it comes to their chains. Until you wear one about half out they stretch. The only thing I have found to combat this problem is running a new Stihl chain dull and tight once they get hot they are done stretching. But that is not good for the bar and sprockets. Personally I just use Oregon chains instead. Excellent side by side comparison. Have a great day

Great video! Listening to the different saws running, you can tell which one is which manufacture's saw, I've said for a long time now, if it's got orange and a pro saw it's a good saw. I own mostly Stihl, but have purchased both Husqvarna and Echo in the pro series and can't compline about any of them . I do find myself leaning towards my Stihls, but as always, the right tool for the job is where I go as well. My 572XP with a 28" bar is really calling me for bucking in a log pile. The power to weight plus cut speed is almost unmatched in my arsenal of saws.

Good video Chris, and three good saws. I get tired with the brand thing. When I was firewooding commercially I always had five or six saws in my truck. (all colours) because I was on occasion working sixty or more miles from home. So took them all. Always managed to get the job done even if one or two saws petered out. Found Husky ergonomics suited my style a bit better than 046 sthil. At end of the day sometimes if wood was small I'd finish off the day with an old 3300 Poulan close on 40yrs old now and still runs well. Got to love a saw that starts and runs for that long. Cheers from HB NZ

The 400 is a sweet saw altho I threw and exhaust and foam filter on it from the beginning. Also I heard alot about it not oiling well, an easy fix. I talked my dealer into installing a 460 high flow pump on it at purchase which is supposedly at lowest setting highest setting stock and she’s a gusher! Oils perfectly but it’s a lot, but at that point your about at the price of a 462, but a much smaller easy to handle package

I know all brands are okay but I wanna go with mainly stihl because especially in Europe echo isn’t seen that much, only a 2511t so it’s mainly choosing between stihl and husqvarna. Then I just trust stihl more after I’ve been ripped off by husqvarna twice on the same saw which came out of its box not properly running.
I would still like to have some husqy saws but after that whole ordeal (which was buying a non functional brand new saw and getting ripped off twice all within about 1 month) I kinda trust stihl waaaay more and once I’m a arborist I’ll probably end up going with a 2511t as climbing saw

You just walked the brand loyalty tightrope and judging by the comments here it looks like no one is ready to tar and feather you. 😂Probably because you're right though. I have at least one newer version of each of the big three brands and they all work well. It all comes down to what's important to you. Cost, dealer support, power/weight, fuel economy and even aesthetics. It's how some of us end up with way more saws than we need. 😮

    Good morning Chris!!😀😀
When cutting in a pile I like a 90cc saw because when you get those small pinches it just powers through them. Were the smaller saws will stall out and you have to come from the other side to finish the cut. But they do get heavy after a while.
The 500i is kind of a gas hog.
But when it comes to that it really doesn't matter to me.
If you want to get a smaller saw ported. Check out Charles Brisco over in lower Michigan. He builds Echo 4910's that will eat 572's for lunch. He can build any saw to scream but yet last day in day out.
He built a Stihl 400 that just blew my mind how fast and strong it is.

I don’t like the sound of the Husqvarna. Could be just the video. But the Stihl sounds good. Echo sounds good too, but doesn’t seem to rev the same as the Stihl.
I miss the days of the old wood yard. More updated equipment and product reviews have changed the videos, and that’s fine. Everybody updates.
I build a stand to put in front of the wood pile. It’s slower, but keeps me from standing or falling from the rounds under your feet. And no standing on the pile. So that means the log pile can’t roll and fall on ya. But it’s slower. You have to roll the logs to the stand.

Should you decide to go the ported saw route much like picking a good saw dealer pick a good Porter who understands what you want out of the port work, race saw ear bleed toy vs woods port. The reason the 592 is so loud is because it is basically an open echo chamber with no baffling whomever you choose to do the port work let them know you do not wish for ear bleed loud and a GOOD builder should address that concern while doing a build.

*The stretched chain* could be because Stihl chains and saws are just not up to Chris's power in chain saw use ... then again if the drive sprocket was worn then it's pitch will be longer than that of un-stretched chain so the immense power of the Stihl stretches the chain toward the pitch on the worn drive sprocket. One of these scenarios is more likely, I wonder which, but of course Chris's power in chain saw use will always be legendary.

      Hi@@InTheWoodyard
      Why?
_i.e. What is _*_causing_*_ it, _*_Why_*_ is it happening?_
I've been using Carlton semi chisel ever since I read an Australian that apparently did years of personal testing in Queensland hardwoods. He liked a top plate angle of between 25 and 30 deg but I often get 3 tanks with 35 deg if the wood is clean.
*Now,* when I lose critical sharpness and subconsciously start pushing - that's when I'm likely to *cause* a little chain stretch.
Chain stretch is always caused by forces/temperatures that make it happen. *It's a Stihl chain isn't an explanation just like certain chains stop cutting good about 2/3 or 3/4 through the tooth isn't.*
*Understanding* the 'chain' of causality enables habits that *cause* the chain to remain in tune with the pitch of the drive sprocket. It's just a form of maintenance that maintains a dynamic synchronization between drive sprocket wear and chain. As the pitch of the drive sprocket increases as it wears I think the chain stretches, just a little, in response and this is why many change sprockets and chains at the same time - to maintain that relationship.
I love thinking about this stuff. I'm off to see a farmer and let him know I can't drop a tree up the hill (as I had suggested) as after consideration I think it's too risky.
      Have a great! day
      sincerely
      d
