The fact that it took a future engine to make us realize how low poly the characters actually are is a testament to the fantastic artstyle.

Its funny when you read the Valve tf2 comic called "the director" and see the director trying to get heavy to talk about himself but just wants to talk about his gun instead.
It's not that he really wants to talk about his gun, he just doesn't like talking to strangers. Quite a secretive giant playing a fool.
Naturally.
I figure it’s because he knew that whatever he says will be used against him (which is proven later on) and considering that he and his family were already dissidents, he doesn’t want to put them in anymore danger.

Yeah
To be fair, he's up against a mad doctor that can bring people back to life and an engineer that has a legacy of an immortality machine. So not that intelligent, relatively speaking. In the grand scheme of things, though, Heavy doesn't make very many mistakes, unlike Soldier or Scout.
Heavy has a better education than medic. Medic never had any formal training in medicine
@@nurvis297 Medic's lack of formal training is definitely overshadowed by his incredible work experience. He created a panacea (which he mainly uses to keep his test subjects alive), brought someone back from the dead (because he wanted to try, and felt kind of bad for having them killed), and made someone literally immortal (and their severed head is still begging for death in his fridge).
As great as a PhD is, medic could probably get several honorary PhDs before being executed for crimes against humanity and nature.

Knowing Valve the next Team Fortress game is going to be some genre defining class based, objective based, team shooter that will blow everyone's minds by single handedly having figured out how to make gameplay that actually works and feels good play on a holodeck. Or whatever we're going to get after VR. Valve is so frustrating. Half Life 1 did first person narratives in a way nothing had successfully done before and completely changed the entire videogame industry like nothing since DOOM or Quake 1. Then Half-Life 2 comes around and successfully implements a really interesting physics engine and integrates it into the regular gameplay, after which every game had to have a physics engine for a while. then they go quite and wait for the next mind blowing thing to develop, and it's VR, so they make probably the best serious vr game ever made. and then they'll go quiet again, and just rake in the steam money until someone gets a stick up their butt to completely change the industry again. I'm certain in the next couple of years we're going to be drowning in half-life Alyx clones.
@@Strawberry92fs if by "drowning in half life alyx clones" you mean there will be a plethora of games making it worth buying a VR set, then i hope so

Read at 1:53, he re-did the lighting by hand
There's probably a couple dozen reasons the lighting may seem off, but I remember one during the stream while he was working on it.
The models in sfm2 had some weird interlacing lines. Like on the heavy you could see a bunch of crisscross lines in sfm2 where lighting calculations went wild. I'm not sure if the reason was light freaking out on the low poly model or the model freaked out the lights.
Either way I'm wondering if that's what's causing the shiny highlight above the eyebrows and where the forehead/top of head there is a noticeable jump in the shadows.
But I'm sure it'll be smoothed out or dealt with various sfm hacks.

@@felixftw4702 well Valve actually said that porting TF2 to Source 2 is impossible because TF2's coding is a huge mess and would not translate well over to Source 2
tl;dr: TF2 would have to be *entirely recoded* in Source 2, and that would just be for the base game to work, they'd have to code back in every taunt, hat physics, code rocket jumping again, all the little things that already work fine in TF2 having to be rebuilt from the ground up
@@Kawn0 your tldr is longer than your previous statement
if DJTHED can program tf2 into unity, I'm sure an entire corporation can make something work with their own engine; didnt they recode GoldSrc for Half-Life 2 and source?

@@felixftw4702 the tl;dr was a joke lol, ik ful lwell its longer, that was the irony of it xd
half-life was made using the GoldSrc engine, 2 was made using Source, which yes was made from GoldSrc but in a way where it could do more than Gold ever could handle. I agree Source still is holding out as a REALLY good engine, I'm sure with the communities help and Valve being willing to work with the community, could possible be able to successfully reprogram TF2 into Source 2, the only problem with Source 2 though is that it would make the 1960's cartoony art of TF2 look VERY weird, since the art was made to look how it is in Source, where as Source 2 is solely based on looking as high quality and real as possible
