    Thanks for posting this video. As a novice spoon carver I have found the tips very helpful and it has given me both the confidence and incentive to try to do more with my axe rather than just sawing, carving and sanding.

    I know it's from a Year ago Zed but what a great informative video, I was also quite impprest at the amount of spoons he can do in a day.

    Seems to me that for production speed and reliable reproduction, using a saw cut to aid with axing out the handle would be the way to go. Obviously Owen's got his system working, but I know I'll be using the saw in there ;)

    Sycamore is used as so as not to taint the food

      Possibly but inherently no woods taint the food, it's the oil applied to them that taints them ~Peace~

      Some other woods like oak can impart off flavours
