Since Hulk's first appearance in the pages of The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962), there have been 4 live-action media variants of the character.
Welcome to Geekwatch's variants, and in this episode we would list down all the actors who have portrayed the Green Goliath; the Incredible Hulk.
But first, a big shout out to our SUBSCRIBER: Dennis Hays.

• 6'5" Lou Ferrigno is the 1st actor to portray Hulk. His Hulk's civilian identity is David Banner. He appeared in the following; The Incredible Hulk tv movie (1977), The Return of the Incredible Hulk tv movie (1977), Incredible Hulk tv series: seasons 1-5 for 80 episodes (1978-1982), Santista Jeans commercial (1980), The Incredible Hulk Returns tv movie (1988), Sears commercial (1988), The Trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989), The Death of the Incredible Hulk (1990), AGF investments commercial (2001), and Tim telco commercial (2004). Ferrigno was 26 years old in his first appearance as Hulk, and 52 years old in his last.
• Eric Bana is the 2nd actor to portray Hulk. His Hulk's civilian identity is Bruce Krenzler, originally Bruce Banner. He appeared in the following; Hulk movie (2003), and Bana's version of hulk appeared in a Mountain Dew commercial (2003). Bana's Hulk at his tallest is at 15 feet. Eric Bana was 35 years old when he appeared as Hulk.
• Edward Norton is the 3rd actor to portray Hulk. His Hulk's civilian identity is Bruce Banner. He appeared in the following; Incredible Hulk movie (2008), and Norton's version of Hulk appeared in a Burger King commercial (2008). Norton's Hulk is approximately 9 feet tall. Edward Norton was 39 years old when he appeared as Hulk.
• Mark Ruffalo is the 4th actor to portray Hulk. His Hulk's civilian identity is Bruce Banner. Ruffalo's Hulk appeared in the following; The Avengers movie (2012), Nike commercial (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron movie (2015), Coke commercial (2016), Thor: Ragnarok movie (2017), Renault commercial (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Hulk is expected to appear in the She-Hulk tv series (2022). Ruffalo's Hulk is about 8'5" tall. Ruffalo was 44 years old in his first appearance as Hulk.

Disaster move : Hulk was played by Roland Kickinger, Bruce Banner by Jacob Tolano Wood, and a half transformation to Hulk by Michael Byrnes. Also, in a deleted scene from Scary Movie 3, there is a scene with Hulk, play by Simon Rex (I think).

There have been a bunch of Hulk portrayals on SNL. One of them was George Foreman.
You can add Chris Farley in SNL’s Superman’s Funeral sketch - which add’s another Batman and a few others
And while I think of it … Bobbie Moynihan in SNL’s Black Widow movie trailer skit. Essentially yeah - you could do an video on SNL superheroes appearances…
Richard Kiel, Jaws from James Bond, was originally cast as the Hulk for the 1970's tv show. He is still in 1 scene in the pilot episode.

Ric Drasin played a Midway Hulk? When the Hulk transformed back into Banner he was caught halfway, for the two-part Prometheus episodes in the television series.
A large meteor emitting large amounts of gamma radiation hit where he was and it prevented him from turning all the way back into Banner. Interestingly enough, they capture the Hulk using a red dome. The one that looked an awful lot like Avengers Age of Ultron where Tony Stark captures, briefly, the Hulk.

You've neglected to mention that it was Ang Lee himself, not Eric Bana, who did the motion capture for the 2003 Hulk.

Ang Lee is not an actor, though I agree.. He knew the assignment.. I also waatched so many behind-the-scenes footage on how he was so obsessed with the character, he was calling people in the middle of the night to pitch an idea for the movie, lol.. Imagine how many people have to be credited for motion capture if we were to ignore the end credits??

I do not know if anyone else has written it on this page as of yet but you forgot 1 back in 1981 the actor was named Dick Durock! It was a 2 part episode of the TV series the incredible hulk where it was hulk versus hulk! One of the best 2 part episodes they actually ever had!

The Young Ones, 1982 I think, Nigel Planer turns into The Hulk. Don't know the name of the actor in Hulk makeup.

@@Geekwatch00 First of all, of course, this is my personal opinion, but if you think about it further -
1. he's unique! All other Hulks can be put in mass production. Hulk 2003, unique. After all, thanks to his father's experiments on himself, only God knows what he passed on to his son, who subsequently did not die as a result of the accident, but activated the Hulk inside him.
2. he grows up. The angrier he gets, the bigger he gets.
3. He really has regeneration working, it is well shown in the movie.
4) He's strong, incredibly strong. That even his father, who absorbed all the energy from everything, couldn't handle absorbing all the energy from the Hulk.
Yes in general the movie may seem boring and drawn out, but I think it's the best movie and the best portrayal of the Hulk ever. All other Hulks will lose to him if there is a fight between them.
How many years have I been reviewing this movie, but starting in 2003 and still getting goosebumps when he breaks a dog's jaw enlarging his shoulder, incredibly hard!

In the TV series, it was the fight between Hulk and the bear, but when he picks it up over his head you can tell it's fake...!

This is a bit misleading, all of the Hulks since Lou Ferrigno have been CGI, you’re naming the actors that played Bruce Banner, not the Hulk. In fact Lou Ferrigno was the voice of every chi hulk until Mark Ruffalo did his voice as the “ Smart Hulk “ in recent movies.

My favorite version is the 1970s TV version. Lou Ferrigno was perfect. He was “real,” as in truly live-action, and thus far more believable. Not a fan of CGI Hulk.
If not CGI, what do you propose they use for newer movies?
@@Geekwatch00 - I'll be laughed at for saying this, but I would much rather see them do it old school. Paint a real physical person green. That's especially what needed to happen with She-Hulk. They should have had an attractive, tall, athletic woman--a REAL woman--play the role, rather than such awkward and fake looking CGI. It looks so bad and unrealistic; it takes me right out of it. A real person could have sold it.

To me Edward Norton's HULK is my favorite! He displayed the most "SAVAGE HULK" in the movies! The fight with the Abomination was brutal!
It would be great to see a cut loose HULK in this era of MCU.
Dude... Eric Bana Hulk punched a Hulk dog in the Balls, Broke a Hulk dog's jaw by flexing his shoulder muscle while the dog was bitting it, tore a Hulk dog apart leg from leg, bent an Abram's tank Barrel around all the way back to it's driver like it was playdoh, ripped the top of an Abram's Tank (and accidentally hit his balls while doing it btw lol) and used it as a shield and bat on another tank, lifted and threw a 60ton tank about a kilometer away, and threw a massive multi-ton boulder the size of maybe 3 tanks (if you count the density it could weight even more than 200 Tons, as tanks are hollow) tens of meters away.
Norton Hulk is not the most savage, just the most sinister and beastly as he kills people and probs has the least humanity.
Also Eric Bana Hulk has the deepest and best personality as he is partly the repressed memory child Bruce, he's like a 15 Foot Super-Hulk kid throwing a tantrum without actually wanting to hurt anyone and just wants to be left alone and be at peace (but at the same time will rip enemies apart if he has to). He is literally Bruce's emotional pain personified. And the movie's story was much better and deeper too.

I feel like all of these hulks are great. Alot of people will disagree with me but i think my least favorite is Lou ferrigno. Although his acting was really good in the movies. I feel like the design doesn't stand out to me. And i think Mark ruffalo's hulk is being hated alot and he deserves some more respect

Only the first Hulk is true live- action. The rest are just computer generated cartoons. And Bill Bixby destroys all other Dr Banner actors.

@@Geekwatch00 I always prefer live action to CGI. That why I will always love 1962 Japanese and 1963 American King Kong vs Godzilla over Godzilla vs Kong 2021. Guys in suits will always look more real to me than light and shadow imagery.

The She-Hulk series was great fun. Very well written and acted. The Abomination was hilarious at times.
