Very well done!!! My all-time favorite "Superman moment" from the movies; Henry Cavil at the receiving end of the World Engine. He staggers to his feet and flies THROUGH the beam (testing his might against the beam) and accelerates up and then through the entire Planet Engine, utterly destroying it! The musical score, the action, and the look on his face (reminiscent of Christopher Reeve) was ICONIC!!! RIBBIT! 🐸
There are actually a few frames of Christopher Reeve's face superimposed over Henry Cavill's as he flies upward in that scene. Watch it in slow motion and it's easy to see.
Bill Murray and Ben Affleck definitely count if they’re going to use actors from commercials and parade footage, not to mention actors from unaired pilots or Nicolas Cage and DJ Catrona from movies that never got made.
I would argue that Chris Reeve is also the best Clark Kent as he is really the only actor that pulled off playing Superman and Clark Kent as 2 distinct people. Everyone else really didn't try.
Oh yeah, Christopher Reeve is the gold standard, even as his movies got worse, he was still always fantastic in them. Tom Welling was fantastic as a Clark we followed over 10 years and watched him evolve from high school student to Daily Planet reporter (and watching him meet with a character played by Christopher Reeve like it was passing the torch, was beautiful). Brandon Routh was a good 'Reeve'-like in Returns but yeah, even better as a Kingdom Come style Supes in Crisis where he got add a bit more of his own style to it. I want to add Tyler Hoechlin who has been doing a fantastic job in the CW shows especially since his own show 'Superman & Lois' where he got a bit of a soft reboot and been giving us a Supes married to Lois and raising his kids and it's been great. :)
Ron Ely who played an older Superboy on an episode of Superboy called The Road to Hell (part 2). Ben Affleck who played George Reeves. (Not sure if that one counts since Ben was playing George and not actually playing Superman).

DC characters, especially Superman, is older than Marvel characters... so they had more time to adapt him to live media. In the case of Marvel... Spider-man also has a good number of actors who played him.
Grew up watching George Reeves - still the best Clark Kent of them all. Bud Collyer should get at least an honorable mention for 2088 radio adventures. "Up, Up & Away" catch phrase was created for him.
George Reeves has been MY pick for both Superman and Clark Kent. I felt Reeves' portrayal of Clark Kent was the most realistic; with Kirk Alyn's portrayal as a close second.
@@1craley878 I thought that the reason Superboy/man was not in Smallville was because the writers wanted to show the developmental side of the 'human' Clark Kent. I did not realise that Tom Welling was embarrassed wearing the Superman/boy costume. Disappointed to learn that as I enjoyed the Smallville concept.
Reeve didn’t need to be big or buff. He had the ideal face and height but most importantly his portrayal of the character was flawless. Almost like it was his destiny to play Superman. Yeah he was that damn amazing
@@JustinLodes And yet, he was actually big (6' 4", 192 cm.) and buffed up for the role appropriately for the aesthetical standards of the 70s, as it coincidentally happened to be just around that time that the anabolics-assisted jacked up, ultra-chiseled and defined look started being a thing in the professional bodybuilding circles and subsequently the notion permeated into the general population's perception. Before that and up to that point, the type of physique that Reeve attained and sported in Superman was actually the equivalent, in social perception terms, to that that Cavill attained and sported in Man of Steel.
I lold seeing John Rockwell's face completely obscured by Bob Holliday's shoulder at the end of the video. Sometimes we may be short kings, but were really still short.
I saw a comment mentioning Clayton Collyer, maybe you can do a part two where you list all the actors who voiced Superman? It's kinda funny that we only think of 6 or 7 actors playing the role of Superman but we don't know about the obscure movies, commercials or PSAs that were made between the mainstream shows/movies. George Reeves was my introduction Superman, Christopher Reeve was my first cinematic Superman followed by Brandon Routh, I knew Dean Cain and Tom Wellings had TV shows (my little brother was into those shows) and finally Henry Cavill rounded out the big screen Superman. I have really enjoyed Tyler Hoechlin in the role through both the Superman And Lois series and his appearances in the other Arrowverse shows. Clearly, Superman isn't going to disappear too soon.

@@Geekwatch00 Honestly, I think for a Tim Burton movie, he would have worked great. It would have been such a weird take on his character, that he needed someone that was completely the opposite of the "look" archetype of Superman. I do wonder how such a movie would have turned out. I can picture Edward Scissorhands but with Super Powers, lol. As much as I love Chris Reeve, every single other actor is just yet another attempt to get someone that kinda somewhat, offhanded, looks like Chris Reeve? It was fine for Superboy (it was, indeed following the coattails of the Donner films). And Louis and Clark was different enough, with some ideas that I think worked great (Having Clark be the real person and Superman is his mask). Which is why Dean Cain was fine for that role (handsome and squared jawed enough, but not hurting to look like Chris Reeve). Then the next versions went back to "we need a guy that looks like Chris Reeve", so we get Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, Henry Cavil, etc etc. And with Routh, they even tried to make that a direct sequel to Superman II, which did not really work (but Routh was fine as Supes, and the movie had some good parts. As a whole it was pretty bland though)
If i remembered it right, nicholas cage once did a voice over as superman in the animated teen titans go movie. For the last guy that portrayed superman, something was up with the video when you didn't mention the cw tv series, superman and lois.
How I wish DC would have used Smallville to build the DCEU. Lest we forget Bill Murray in the classic SNL sketch when Margot Kidder was the host and the super hero party they had featuring the Hulk, Ant Man, Flash and others.
Henry Cavill becoming the fully realized Superman in ZSJL is the greatest live action Superman moment for me. I really hope we see another solo movie from him and Snyder’s ZSJL2/3 too. Come on Zaslav. We can have it all.
Henry Cavill is second to none. That includes Christopher Reeves. Hopefully WB Discovery can pull this mess together and give him the deal he deserves so the fans can get the Superman movies we deserve.
Cavill's version is not better than Christopher Reeves' version. Superman is the combination of Kent and Kal-El. Cavill's Kent wasn't very strong. He did ok but not like Reeves. I'd have Cavill second to one, not none.

RIBBIT! 🐸
I love that scene too. I just feel that Man of Steel movie was a very well put together film.

Middleton is a tough one because no one can really confirm or deny that he was Superman.
Chris Reeve = best Superman
Tom Welling = best Clark Kent
Brandon Ruoth = was outstanding as Kingdom Come Superman

I would argue that Chris Reeve is also the best Clark Kent as he is really the only actor that pulled off playing Superman and Clark Kent as 2 distinct people. Everyone else really didn't try.
@@comicbookninja5268 Dean Cain is my favourite. Henry Caville comes a close second, I just wish those movies and his character would’ve been better.

Yes but he refused to wear the suit, not sure why they casted an actor to play a role that he was embarrassed by
@@1craley878 I thought that the reason Superboy/man was not in Smallville was because the writers wanted to show the developmental side of the 'human' Clark Kent. Cavill imo is the most physically accurate but Reeves is the most nostalgic
That's good observation.
I beg to differ, but the _imo_ assertion is highly appreciated.
Reeve didn’t need to be big or buff. He had the ideal face and height but most importantly his portrayal of the character was flawless. Almost like it was his destiny to play Superman. Yeah he was that damn amazing
@@JustinLodes
And yet, he was actually big (6' 4", 192 cm.) and buffed up for the role appropriately for the aesthetical standards of the 70s, as it coincidentally happened to be just around that time that the anabolics-assisted jacked up, ultra-chiseled and defined look started being a thing in the professional bodybuilding circles and subsequently the notion permeated into the general population's perception. Before that and up to that point, the type of physique that Reeve attained and sported in Superman was actually the equivalent, in social perception terms, to that that Cavill attained and sported in Man of Steel.
Costume needs to be like the classic suit with red trunks Superman wore it to honor his mother who made it for him, its iconic.

It's kinda funny that we only think of 6 or 7 actors playing the role of Superman but we don't know about the obscure movies, commercials or PSAs that were made between the mainstream shows/movies.
