I got the scorpion because of your vid and love it. I don't need the latest and greatest to get another 20 feet. I had to pay a guy and hope a real reel came in, it was an adventure just getting it and that makes it even better. Lol.

I need this Lucky Craft sammy 65 !! Those small spok/walk the dog lures are my favorite. I also like some from ZIP Baits and from Jackall, but they're a little harder to find. GOing to check eBay right now after this Sammy
@@zefe3886 if you like fishing a wide range of different environments, the 2021 does it do it better IMO... 2017 is a tiny bit more comfortable if your gonna go casting all day.... but if you wanna step it up from time to time, winding under load or cranking heavier lures, then go back down to 5g minnows the next day, I found the new model a fair leap forward for maximum versatility... At end of the day, best off rolling with what you reckon looks or feels better.... coz there’s nothing in the casting between them (with those bait sizes anyway...)🤷♂️💯
They are so different. The centrifugal brake and magnetic brake are completely different. To me the dc should be your goto reel or it should always be your tackle bag as a backup. They are beast in windy situations.

@@Schnalle91 comes down to your preference and fishing styles, lots of my friends who uses conventional reel likes to cast mainly swimbaits, for me I like to cast a wide variety of lure 1oz to 1/4 oz jigs to seedless senko, I find greater pleasure using low profile baitcaster for this. Havent tried other reel so i cant say anything about it

It's toing to be pretty much backlash proof but there can be certain scenarios that can always contribute to backlash. But for the most part it would be hard to do on those modes.

If I have $300 to spend. Looking at metanium, bantam and scorpion mgl or dc. which jdm baitcaster would YOU go with if you only had a 21 Daiwa zillion sv and $300 to spend on another reel
2021 jdm scorpion on ebay is your best bet. 3 line modes and 5 settings for dc on each mode. Best your going to get for the 200 they cost on eBay new. It's got x ship, micro gears, closest thing to 4x8 dc and looks beautiful. Or you can find like new 17 scorpions shipped around 120-175. They are still amazing and not that much different. You can also upgrade the 17 to micro gears from the curado 70i mgl. Cost like 32$. Can't beat it for the price. It's better than curado and more adjustments for less money plus Its lapanese and they're just built better imo. Hope this helps!
I liken the DC reels to a driving analogy. There are automatic and manual cars. I prefer to drive shifting my own gears. I have one DC reel that I have retired and I just prefer to make all my own adjustments on a reel. I hate that sound
its not that simple, DC brakes allow the spool to keep up its speed over a longer duration of the cast. Thats why they cast so far even though the spools are heavy
Its just hard to make any big improvements with the scorpion dc. Its such a refined reel that its hard to make any bold moves with the new scorpion because you dont want to have a situation where the new scorpion is worse than the old scorpion. In my humble opinion, its the best dc reel that shimano makes when you account for the price.
Idc5 leaps and bounds better. More options for conditions and lures and also line modes to tune better for all scenarios. 3 line modes and 5 settings in each mode. So basically it's like a 3x5 dc. Kind of like a mini version of the 4x8 dc reels which cost a fkin ton
21 Scorpion vs 17 Scorpion differences are entirely in the features offered and the frame. 21 is based on the curado k frame, has an MGL spool and micro-module gears. The 2017 is based on the Curado 70 frame, has curado 70 brass gearing, and a regular spool. The MGL spool on the 21 means the brakes will be able to better control the spool, and the micro-module gears make for a smoother retrieve. Also the only way to do these "cast battles" accurately is to put brand new spool bearings in both reels. Otherwise you're comparing worn in bearings versus brand new ones. Not to mention one set might be lubed more then the other, slowing them down.
Cool story kid! The 2017 is based off the Curado 200i frame, not the 70. And if you want to buy both reels and do your own testing and upload it then go ahead.

You can get the 2021 dc also on Amazon Japan. Also you can use google translate to read your reel instructions using the camera function in real time

@@Schnalle91 depends on your pole, the pole im using is a medium nrx, over loop side cast 1/8oz no problem, but can bomb 3/4 jig and ratta trap

the only concern I have is finding parts to fix the Scorpion. That's the concern that salesmen have express.
The 70i mgl curado is the same thing I believe. You can even directly drop the two gears in for the micro module in the 17s.
