Great to find a car show that doesn't have overbearing, cheesy rock music, with employees screaming and swearing at each other. Leno is a great, ego-free presenter. Well done sir.
Yes it is, and hate that too. You we're probably thinking of GYC on the last part of that comment, if I had to guess lol. Thankfully it's better now, and is bearable to watch
Jay, I'm sure you know that Hurst shifter pistol grip was developed with Chrysler in Highland Park Michigan . well I'm happy to say that I was one of the test drivers and mechanics that continuously worked on that project till it was done . I had to make sure that it remained very shiftable .
Man, I'd love to have this and also a black and gold one. When I was 24 years old, I bought a brand new '74 Hurst Olds right off the showroom floor. It was a W-30 455 and it was Cameo White with Gold stripes and a padded black vinyl top with a white strip that ran across the car from door to door. Man was I in Heaven when I got behind the wheel. In '76 I traded it for a Chevrolet Good Times Van. Stupid stupid stupid!
This is actually a very nice "gentleman's" hot rod, just as Mr. Flint asserts. A small but overlooked feature is that the stripes are PAINTED under the clear coat, which anyone who has lived with vinyl stripes over the paint will tell you HUGELY desirable. And all the talk of making the motor "livable under the horsepower" is much appreciated in this day and age of hugely over-boosted tuner cars. Vortech (in this case) and Procharger both make very nice and very livable centrifugal supercharger applications for most popular street car applications. Good stuff!
My favorite car, next to the Mustang. I really like the way Mopar adhered to its old school looks while the updated Hemi powerplant just churns out the torque. The supercharger makes sure nobody is sloughing off.
I love MOPAR, thank you Jay. I have very fond memories of my 65 Barracuda, V-8, under . $ 3,000. new. No problems for 9 years. Fold down the rear seat, huge area under glass. Also very comfortable ride. My Dad had a 57 DeSoto, also a great car. Like you say, it had a bullet proof drive train, and perfect suspension. Good memories. In those days GM cars had rock and roll suspensions, driving boats.
Oh God yes.. so annoying. I had a 9.98 second Yamaha and had Chet in his calfskin gloves and a sub 300hp/3800lb 3 series come up and rev his engine. I did not oblige.. I was not impressed.
I tried explaining that exactly to my girlfriend to no avail. I told her that's why I pass fast, to minimize the time around incompetent and slow drivers. I had no idea someone else in the world had common sense, thank you!
Beautiful cars. Though I clean my old car with a tooth brush, sadly I don't think I'll ever have a chance to own such a magnificent machine as life has gotten to expensive, and the cash goes to other places of my needs, not to mention my wife would be disappointed.Although she knows I could fix it myself. Thank you for taking the time to display these wonderful machines.
I've been looking at the new camaros, boss mustangs and this car for a little time now. The challenger had really done anything for me immediately, but you see it there in that paint scheme and BAM it really clicked for me!
happydappyman The new Challenger was auto in the beginning it wasn't until people said "wth" that the eventually made it standard.. remember this video is nearly two years old
happydappyman 1969 Hurst/Old's were all Automatics. It was called the "Executives Hot Rod" They came with the award winning His/hers shifter. This is keeping with tradition. I'm sure today you can get anything you want.
That Hurst shifter was a magic wand that was hooked to the coolest flying carpet! I wanted a Challenger so bad! And still do! I'd buy one now, but am no longer able to drive, but I still enjuoy the dreaming!! Great cars!!
This is the one thing I can never understand. Driving slow is ok. Everyone has their reasons... kids in the car, just out for a calm drive, fear.... etc. But why impede others. I move the fuck over when I see a car coming up on me. Its not a personal insult to my manhood, its a person who is driving faster then me, maybe for emergency reasons.
Supercharging is always pushing air into the motor so you always have your power (more or less), unlike turbos that must be spooled up before they really start having effect.
In fact it has a Vortech supercharger. The compressor looks very much like a turbocharger, but indeed it is driven by the crank instead of exhaust gases. It does not have the usual whine, and power delivery is quite smooth, the whole assembly is rather small. It is a nice packadge.
Because as a factory option will have more retained value where aftermarket modifications reduce your resale generally. Plus the factory one would come with a warranty unlike aftermarket.
i remember as a teen going for a ride in a challenger with a six pack.wanted 1 ever since.this car looks great.the first impressions on that fast ride sold me on that challenger with a six pack.my friends wanted the hemi,i never got to go for a ride in 1 of them/the six pack i did & wow, that is what i day dreamed of in math class.its to bad hurst got sold.lost its original way for profit?(stil have my hurst t shifter grip)looks like they are back.where is mrs. hurst? she would of been a bonus!
No Jay, they wasn't taking pictures of the car. They were taking pictures of you. I mean its not every day that the average person pulls up beside Jay Leno in a sharp car.
new revolutionary ProCharger i-1 supercharger system, you can have programmable boost right from the cockpit with a touch screen display. Now you can program a custom mode or choose from the 3 pre-programmed modes for different driving conditions with this "Made In The USA" ProCharger i-1 Supercharger. ProCharger hits the industry by storm with the first programmable boost i-1 Centrifugal Supercharger, with applications coming for Modular, Mustang, LSX and Camaros -- plug Dodge and Hemi models!
Jay....any discussion of the Hurst products requires photos of Miss Hurst...Linda V.....from back in the day, you were looking at more than the shifter with your hidden magazine in class.....!!
LX based Challengers, which this one is, have independent rear suspension. As for weight, an SRT weights about 40+ more pounds than a ZL1. A ZL1s LSA v8 is more responsive to mods too and can make some serious power with the stock internals.
I have to say it: "nicely done x2"! That is a really solid setup. Cruises nice, handles like a euro and plenty of juice when you want it. Nice presentation Jay!
I heard for the next incarnation of the Challenger they want to shrink it down a little, bring the weight and wheel base down closer to the Mustang. That would certainly pep it up a bit, but it might lose some of that road car feel. It'll be interesting to see what they do at any rate.
I had a 69 Z-28 with the factory Hurst shifter, they used to hang-up, factory wasn't the same. Nice colors on that Challenger, i knew a guy that had a mid 70's Hurst olds 442, 455 with low compression.
wow... a hurst "automatic"... I'm going to pretend that I didn't just watch a video about a company famous for their shifters... only cause I love ya Jay Leno. We all make mistakes. I would be impressed if they were able to get their hands on the 2010 anniversary edition - not too many people know about that one. I'm still jealous that my sister has one - with a real manual shifter pistol grip btw.
megan milner 40the anniversary edition challengers were available the 2010 model year. But be careful - tuner companies seem to have trouble creating tunes for them from my experience.
Kinda like steppin back in time with this car....The power of old, the styling of old and the sound of the old Challengers...A very well done car from Chrysler...and HURST. To bad Chevrolet keeps missing the mark STYLING WISE..... Chrysler and Ford has done a great job these past few years to draw Americans back into American cars.... As a true blue Chevy man, I'm depressed GM goes backwards LOOKS WISE... Great Video As Always and Thank You.
What a cool car! In my opinion, it's one of the five great current American cars, together with the Mustang, Camaro, Charger, and Vette. I wish I could own one of each, happily deciding which one to take to work every morning!
"we are not in a horsepower race, we are not trying to build the most powerful challenger" - fast forward a couple of years and we have the 707 hp hellcat
Yes!...there was nothing like a Hurst shifter in you car. I had a Hurst shifter, well it really wasn't a Hurst shifter; it was the Hurst shift knob. Not the same? Oh well. Nothing like a red '66 Volvo with '67 Mustang wheels, large bore SU carbs, air suspension, headers, free flowing exhaust, larger sway bars and oh did I mention, a Hurst shifter. Great sight!
Great to find a car show that doesn't have overbearing, cheesy rock music, with employees screaming and swearing at each other. Leno is a great, ego-free presenter. Well done sir.

Yes.Looking back on it now it may have been a dumb thing to do.
But,I'll bet there was a whole lot of fun had in that van.
This is actually a very nice "gentleman's" hot rod, just as Mr. Flint asserts. Is the a centrifugal supercharger application for my 2005 Mercury Sable with 3.0 V6?
My favorite car, next to the Mustang. I really like the way Mopar adhered to its old school looks while the updated Hemi powerplant just churns out the torque. The supercharger makes sure nobody is sloughing off.
I wish I were Jay Leno so I had the knowledge and car collection he has, what a sweet life.
Awesome, I've been waiting for Jay Leno to do a review of a modern Dodge.
Love the channel and his no-BS views of cars!
All of that and they just stuck a Hurst knob on the stock automatic shifter. What the shit, man.
I’m sharing your pain borther
Never under estimate the immaturity factor.... YOU GOT THAT RIGHT JAY!!! Growing older is necessary, growing up is optional!!!
Love how Jay does a burnout every car, makes him more down to earth - keep it up!
LOL my favorite line.. "But will it do a burnout?" Always addressing the important features of a car. #My #Hero
I love MOPAR, thank you Jay.
I have very fond memories of my 65 Barracuda, V-8, under . $ 3,000. new.

Awesome burnout, and what a sound! Beautiful!
Love My Challenger!

+Doc Holliday im totally thinking of getting one in a few years
DO IT! It's a timeless body model. It'll still be the envy of the road for years to come. New Age American Muscle!

Those Armenians with their BMWs always think everyone is trying to race them.
It makes riding a bike in Glendale such an adventure.
yhey also love AMGS
lmao you're right aber
Oh God yes.. so annoying. I had a 9.98 second Yamaha and had Chet in his calfskin gloves and a sub 300hp/3800lb 3 series come up and rev his engine. I did not oblige.. I was not impressed.
Strong muscle car. Brings memories back.
Loved my 84 hurst olds....should have put the lightning rod shifters in that beauty...luv it
I've always been more of a Mustang kinda guy but I have to admit, this Challenger looks and sounds great!
I tried explaining that exactly to my girlfriend to no avail.
I told her that's why I pass fast, to minimize the time around incompetent and slow drivers.
I had no idea someone else in the world had common sense, thank you!

+supercooled Then life will be MORE expensive for him lol
Love the Hurst add~ons. Makes the little kid in me jump up and down and say "Yea! Do it again! Do another burn~out Jay!"
I've been looking at the new camaros, boss mustangs and this car for a little time now. The challenger had really done anything for me immediately, but you see it there in that paint scheme and BAM it really clicked for me!
wth its still an auto trans? whats the point making it a hurst then?
happydappyman The new Challenger was auto in the beginning it wasn't until people said "wth" that the eventually made it standard.. remember this video is nearly two years old
yeah, good call
Because automatic are faster down a 1/4 than a stickshift
happydappyman 1969 Hurst/Old's were all Automatics. It was called the "Executives Hot Rod" They came with the award winning His/hers
shifter. This is keeping with tradition. I'm sure today you can get anything you want.
xrubydiamond no it wasnt
the best thing about this car is that its a cobination of clasic and modren cars , and it sounds damn good
That Hurst shifter was a magic wand that was hooked to the coolest flying carpet! I wanted a Challenger so bad! And still do! I'd buy one now, but am no longer able to drive, but I still enjuoy the dreaming!! Great cars!!
Not a Dodge guy. Never have been. But I'd drive this car with no complaints. This car screams muscle.
My uncle rebuilt a 1969 Hurst Olds! Love the hurst stuff.
This is the one thing I can never understand. Driving slow is ok. Everyone has their reasons... kids in the car, just out for a calm drive, fear.... etc. But why impede others. I just bought a 2012 RT classic fully loaded just because I always wanted a 1970 and trying to find one in good shape is hard
I finally got a 2010 srt8 finally 6spd love it
Your best burn out in ages Jay... Cheer's.
In fact it has a Vortech supercharger. The compressor looks very much like a turbocharger, but indeed it is driven by the crank instead of exhaust gases. It does not have the usual whine, and power delivery is quite smooth, the whole assembly is rather small. It is a nice packadge.
1964 Chevrolet Impala @ 7:43!!!

Huge tire smoke...Jay's such a kid. Fun.
No Jay, they wasn't taking pictures of the car. They were taking pictures of you. I mean its not every day that the average person pulls up beside Jay Leno in a sharp car.
the paxston superchargers were also available as early as 1957 on the 312ci thunderbirds. Very rare!
Sharp looking Challenger Jay!
i just like the fact that hes thorough and knows what hes talking about
BURN OUT!
Thanks for sharing Jay!
Best channel i just found, wow jay thanks for share such great cars and bike really means alot 2 us
Lol. I love how Jay does burn outs with almost every car. xD
Has hi video about his 70 Challenger?
I live near some very nice coastal roads where I play with other cars a lot, so surprisingly often.
Hey Vince, are you nuts, the new Challenger is right on retro and looks great with the Hurst treatment!
new revolutionary ProCharger i-1 supercharger system, you can have programmable boost right from the cockpit with a touch screen display. jay dude, thanks for showing us your car collection and uploading videos for us muscle car guys...your awesome!!!
what was that about the bottom end? how much boost can a stock hemi handle?
So Sweet. I have the R/T Classic nothing like the HP that car has but with the 6SP and the 392 rear end she is a beast and a great car to drive.
the interior has improved so much.
The burnout raises the COOL FACTOR 1000%.
how many times do you corner when gunning it against someone on the streets?
@03:57 "Coo Coo" "Coo Coo" "Coo Coo" "Coo Coo"
Jay....any discussion of the Hurst products requires photos of Miss Hurst...Linda V.....from back in the day, you were looking at more than the shifter with your hidden magazine in class.....!!
I'm just curious (and don't live in the USA): is doing a burnout legal there? Because you can't do that here in Switzerland for sure :)
is that ignition rattle at the end?
Thanks for sharing Jay and Happy New Year.
Excellent video! The new (2008-2013) Challenger's are one sharp looking automobile!
Found it hilarious when Jay said "will it do a burnout" especially since it could squeal the tires from a roll
"This car atracks attention"... Jay Freaking Leno is inside of it!
SMS challenger is the one you need to check out! It has a functional butterfly flap hood!
It's always nice to see 11s's on a quiet back street.
Diggin' it. Looks like Jay genuinely likes- really likes- this car.
This is a great channel! Thanks!
Love that burn out!!! I'm surprised you don't have a 6.4L SRT8 Challenger inaugural edition though.
LX based Challengers, which this one is, have independent rear suspension. As for weight, an SRT weights about 40+ more pounds than a ZL1. A ZL1s LSA v8 is more responsive to mods too and can make some serious power with the stock internals.
How do you do a burnout or do i not have enough hp on my 06 auto mustang gt
Great video but does Jay have any other clothes? Anything but denim? I wanna see him do a video in pink onesy.
I have to say it: "nicely done x2"! That is a really solid setup. Cruises nice, handles like a euro and plenty of juice when you want it. Nice presentation Jay!

Nicest of the 3 by far. and those gold strips are amazing.
jay needs some hurst oldsmobiles in his collection. especially the 69 olds with the mailbox hood scoops!
I had a 69 Z-28 with the factory Hurst shifter, they used to hang-up, factory wasn't the same. Nice colors on that Challenger, i knew a guy that had a mid 70's Hurst olds 442, 455 with low compression.

I didnt know there was a 100th anniversary edition for the 2010. I need to loom into that
megan milner
40the anniversary edition challengers were available the 2010 model year. But be careful - tuner companies seem to have trouble creating tunes for them from my experience.
do you have a challenger?
the challengers are such badass looking cars.
Whats the mpg on that setup?
Good burn out👍
Kinda like steppin back in time with this car....The power of old, the styling of old and the sound of the old Challengers...A very well done car from Chrysler...and HURST. I think the "Gentlemen's hotrods" is a great description. Very tastefully simple and honestly, 570 horsepower is PLENTY enough for a cruiser.
As usual great job Jay, Chrysler sales up 10 %
Jay, you need to do a video on the Plymouth Roadrunner.
I love those cars but, Oh My God, what an insanely lavish guy.
Doing a burnout means you wreck less? Or is doing a burnout reckless?
Nice burnout Jay, helps us 60's guys stay young . . . . :)
one of the best burnouts
What a cool car! In my opinion, it's one of the five great current American cars, together with the Mustang, Camaro, Charger, and Vette. I wish I could own one of each, happily deciding which one to take to work every morning!
Nice looking car! Hurst did a great job!
Jay, you're just a big kid! I LOVE IT! Keep it up...
"we are not in a horsepower race, we are not trying to build the most powerful challenger" - fast forward a couple of years and we have the 707 hp hellcat
Avi Pharmd That's just a side effect of the torque.
Avi Pharmd well Hurst isn’t in a HP race. Dodge is...
Didn't you hear what was done to the challenger? Plus it doesn't hurt that the challenger is brand new and the bmw is atleast 5 years old.
Wish these were available in australia...
That was the Older Shelby with 500 the 2007 car and the New Saleen 351 mustang is advertised at 700 hp now
YES! This channel was getting too many videos without burnouts =)
Look up badass in the dictionary. This car is right there.
I am not a diehard Mopar guy but I believe the modern Challenger is the best looking American car made in many years...
Glad Im not the only one who picked up on that
I don't find any point in putting any shifter other than factory on an automatic.
