This is the first episode to bring tears to my eyes. Kat was painfully sacrificing herself to save many while getting abuse from those around her. Kat is easily my favorite tier-2 character of the series. The final scene is an interesting callback to episode 2x15 ("Scar"). In that episode, the well-established Starbuck locks horns with the rising star Kat. Starbuck says that she forgets fallen warriors immediately. However, after Kat finally kills Scar and the crew is celebrating her achievement, Starbuck punctures the celebration by reciting from memory the very long list of lost pilots -- showing that she deeply cares about the fallen after all. In this episode final scene, after Starbuck initially let Kat down, once Kat dies, Starbuck makes a point of memorializing her on the remembrance wall. Adama deathbed promoting Kat to CAG is also a closure on the 2x15 conflict -- Kat finally achieving what she most wanted. Dan.
This episode is actually a call back from the original show. There is a moment in which the fleet has to pass through an extremely hot and irradiated expanse of space to evade the pursuing Cylons. To make matters worse, the Cylons have been here before and placed large space mines inside the area. So three Vipers (Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer) fly ahead of the fleet taking out the mines. Because of the radiation and high levels of light, the Viper cockpits are totally blacked out. The pilots are flying using guidance from officers back on the Galactica. It’s a very intense moment and to add more tension, the Viper’s are starting to melt.
They didn’t lose lots of civilians. If you listen again, the escorted ships only had skeleton crews. All of the civilians were transferred to the Galactica for each passage through for radiation shielding.
I like Kat’s backstory in the greater story arc. Battlestar Galactica is a post apocalyptic saga in space. These folks have seen the end of the world happen across 12 planets. Instead of giving up they are adapting, they are surviving and many folks are starting over. Kat was a criminal and could have possibly inadvertently helped the Cylons. But she dedicates herself to a new life as someone who is literally helping to defend the human race. Kat reminds me of the character Serina and Cassiopeia from the original series. Serina begins the show as a news reporter and single mom. When the need for new Viper pilots presents itself she steps up and gets her wings. Cassiopeia starts the show as a socialiator (i.e. sex worker) from a colony that has strict rules about sexuality. But the call goes out for people to become medical technicians. In time she becomes a highly respected medtech and is even sent on high profile missions to support the troops.
4:25, Baltar's story arc with Deanna and Six reminds me of lyrics from old Ice Cube song. My version would read as 🎼Even saw the lights on the Caprica blimp and It read "Baltar's a "🎶
Your crazy idea about the Final Five isn't as off the mark as you guys might think. That said, the excellent prequel series, Caprica, deals directly with the creation of the cylons. You should react to it when Galactica is finished.
Skeleton crews on the civilian ships thru the cluster, so probably less than a dozen; the question is how many people lost their "homes" when, for example, the Adriatic was lost...? And here's one of the most messed up things- Starbuck killed her. Without that implicit threat to ruin her life, to "remove" her rival, Kat wouldn't have felt the need to knowingly kill herself to "prove" herself (again). Its one of those things I can't forgive the character for. Also, claiming that the Cylons were smuggled in by "drug runners"- like, really, how many people in a society of 20 billion would be "drug runners" or other types of smugglers? Bitch, I might've done the same job, but there were likely tens if not hundreds of thousands of people transporting "unofficial" cargo around the colonies. Oh yes, "Paper shortage" is one of the rare comedic gems from this series.
I was wrestling with that thought myself after watching the episode. Would Kat have pushed herself if it wasn't to prove her loyalty or suffering from further guilt? Did she feel the need to do what she did when she had that confrontation with Starbuck or was it when her old "colleague" showed up?
Honestly this episode was the one that put me in the “fuck Starbuck” camp for the rest of the show. Telling Kat that she might be responsible for the Cylon wiping out humanity was a disgusting move.
The problem that I had with this episode is that they are following the path of the 13th tribe which not only then went through this area with presumably more primitive technology but some came back to the 12 Colonies through it yet AGAIN to tell them the way as was then recorded in the Book Of Pythia.
My eyes lit up when I saw there's a new BSG reaction- IMMEDIATELY jumps to 'sad face' after reading the title.
This was a rough one😢

Dan.
Oh great callback. Shame we had to lose Kat.
The gents are back with more BSG. . .YES! 😊😊😊 Love this episode. How Adama handles Kat on her deathbed always gets me.
And another photo goes up on the wall 😢

That makes more sense than what I understood 😂

Could've done without her death though.
@@RamblersInc I miss Kat. But this version has just never been a happy happy joy joy type of show 😞

🤣🤣🤣🤣
RIP Kat 😢
😔
There is no food, because Apollo ate it all, when everyone was on New Caprica.
😵🤣

The goop in your hair remark is also there to show that Baltar is intimate with Diana along with six, the lucky dog that he is.
Baltar is an intergalactic p.i.m.p.
🤣
Baltar has the devil's luck and charisma. How one person can fail up so much is amazing.

Starbuck has those no filter moments where she says or does something crazy and then cries about her own behaviour from time to time.

It was a stellar nursery, so its possible that it had only formed in the last few thousand years, so it would of only been a nebula back then
@TheKonkaman However considering the cosmic timeline of stellar events, the chance of that being so is so vastly remote as to be virtually zero.
pretty much everything that happens is highly unlikely, its almost like the is some sort of higher power guiding events
@@TheKonkaman In this case it's more highly likely that the writers either didn't take this factor into consideration or didn't care.
I always understood that their passage through the fiery band was a detour to get food.
Then again, we have the next few episodes to consider...
My dark interpretation: Starbuck gave Kat enough to delete herself, but Adama got in the way of that, so Kat died in lots of pain.
😳 oh god. I didn't even think of that.
I cried for Kat.
Still do.
Had to lose a good one didn't we
