Learn English Tenses: The Present Perfect

  • Welcome to this English grammar lesson about the present perfect tense. This is a very common English verb tense, and it can be a bit tricky for people who are learning English. It is one of the more advanced English verb tenses. It is helpful to know it when you want to talk about actions where time is not important, time is not specified, or the action is not finished.
Once you master the conjugation and usage, you'll be able to use it in sentences like, "I have studied English since I was a kid!" You'll notice in this sentence we're talking about something that has no clear start or end. The time is not important so we use the present perfect tense.
I'll start by helping you learn how to conjugate in the present perfect for written and spoken English. This verb conjugation is made up of the subject, the verb "to have" conjugated, and then the past participle of the verb. I'll also make sure I help you learn how to use it in the negative, and how to form questions with the present perfect.
I hope you enjoy this English grammar lesson about the present perfect tense! I hope you're having a great day!

There were many questions about the difference between the Present Perfect and the Present Perfect Continuous. They can, in some situations, be used equally. I could say, "I have worked hard today!" or "I have been working hard today!" and they would mean the same thing. For more information here is a great link: www.perfect-english-grammar.com/present-perfect-simple-or-present-perfect-continuous.html

Yeap, it's the first question what I wanted to ask after your examples in Situation#1
Some not native teachers teach that if action hasn't finished yet, then you should use Present Perfect Continues.
But when I saw lessons from native teachers they said that people prefer to use Present Perfect even for such situations :)
And they give words which I can use to determine which tense I should use:
      - already/just - Present Perfect
      - since/for - Present Perfect Continues

Great job teacher Bob! Came across your channel a couple of days ago and I love it. You've got a friendly demeanor and a pleasant voice so it's almost irresistible to not to watch another video. I've ended up watching a bunch of your videos from different years and I really like your compassion about teaching and your willingness to come up with something new and origin. Thank you Mr. Bob. You don't really need the present perfect to talk about your hard work. I bet you work hard almost every day. How has your week been? Have you adjusted to daylight saving time? I hope your finger is okay 🩹! I am sure it's just a scratch for a framer but there is no harm in letting someone know how much we care for them. Have a nice day.
