Yorkshire Television (now ITV Yorkshire) was founded and launched on 29th July 1968 and is based in Leeds. Before they began broadcasting, they did school programming in 1967. Their headquarters were purpose-built for color production yet they did not broadcast in color until 15th November 1969. They were well-known for producing "Emmerdale" from 1972 to 2006 although the current state of ITV Yorkshire has made them a "dormant" company now. They lost their on-air identity on 27 October 2002.

The lady pulling the lever to launch Yorkshire Television is none other than HRH The Duchess of Kent, who is a born and bred Yorkshire woman.
Another fun fact: The Yorkshire Television fanfare is based upon an old Yorkshire folk song, concerning a man who lost his hat on Ilkley Moor. The song is called 'On Ilkley Moor Bar T' at''.

The 'old Yorkshire folk song' in fact started life as a hymn-tune written in, of all places, Kent. I believe the Ilkley Moor words were added by a church choir from Halifax who were on a day trip to said moor.
The tune, which goes by the name of 'Cranbrook', is still sung as a hymn-tune in the United States, where it can be guaranteed no-one has heard of Ilkley Moor and its hatless rambler.

14:50. Love the timing of the drum beat at the same time the child slips over. Did these idents really only last 2 years? They're better than anything that came after.
According to the CLG Wiki, they were only used for 2 years. I agree with you, they're great, and I quite like how they used two different versions of the theme tune.

I remember it very well when Yorkshire Television was just opening up when ABC TV was just shutting down in 1971 though the logo looks like it was done 20 years earlier it so old now amazingly that 53 years ago today and it 68 years old doesn't time flies though it was transmitted on UHF 625 lines in analogue in colour though we had a black and white TV then and in mono though it will broadcasted in stereo in October 1983 now it is in digital and high definition and from 360p to 1080p resolution depending on what type of TV we are using.

Used to get Yorkshire in South Lincolnshire.. news was coming from Leeds. Seemed odd.
Live North East of Hull used to get news from South Lincolnshire (Anglia) never heard of half the places, pre bridge days 😂
Because in 1974 Yorkshire was given the Belmont Transmitter by the IBA which is in Lincolnshire, they had been fighting with Tyne Tees over the Bilsdale transmitter and the IBA whom obviously wasn’t happy about their bickering gave them Belmont as a compromise. Which sadly meant viewers in North Norfolk and Lincolnshire got Yorkshire Television from Leeds instead of Anglia Television from Norwich on their TV unless they got another aerial to point towards one of Anglia TVs relays or main transmitter masts as well.
@@jane1975 Yeah we lived in West Norfolk and could not pickup Anglia very well so we had 2 Aerials on the roof 1 pointing to Central (Sandy Heath) the other to Yorkshire (Belmont).

The actual first logo was the second one shown. That was the launch station event. I'm 100% northern and that was definitely it. Never seen the one alleged to be the first. Believe me, I have obsessed over this and other idents all my life. The jingle is also a variation of the Yorkshire National anthem.

There were actualy 2 versions of the generic look with David dundas’s saxophone. One with the triangle, and one without the triangle
They spent a ton of cash on that ident and made a total f up of it particularly with TVS, Yorkshire and Granada’s idents. Dundas’ theme, Get Ready for ITV was catchy and the graphics were great for the time but they did mess up with the designs of some of the triangles for the regional idents.
Yorkshire tv production for channel 4 can been seen usually the end of Countdown ETC

The nickname ‘YTV’ suits very, very well with the ITV franchise. Take 3 logos of the ‘Y’ chevron and you’ll see what I mean.

Since you don’t know, THQ bringing u-draw to the ps3 and xbox 360 is what killed them. Then Nordic Games bought most of THQ’s assets and then later, bought the THQ name. So Nordic Games now operate under THQNORDIC

THQ Inc. was an American video game company based in Agoura Hills, California. It was founded in April 1990 by Jack Friedman, originally in Calabasas, and became a public company the following year through a reverse merger takeover. Initially working in the toy business, it expanded into the video game business through several acquisitions before shifting its focus away from toys entirely. THQ continued its trend of acquiring companies through the 2000s.
The company published both internally created and externally licensed content in its product portfolio. THQ's internally created game series included Darksiders, De Blob, Destroy All Humans!, MX vs. ATV, Red Faction, and Saints Row, among others. The company also held exclusive, long-term licensing agreements with sports and entertainment content creators, such as Disney, DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, Pixar, and WWE.
After years of financial struggles, stock value drop, and debt, THQ filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2012 and commenced liquidation of its assets the following month. Several properties were auctioned to other companies, while the remaining staff was dismissed. The "THQ" trademark was eventually acquired by developer Nordic Games (which had also acquired some of THQ's auctioned-off properties) in 2014 and assumed the name "THQ Nordic" in 2016.
