Great question Steve! I believe it dates back from a couple centuries ago, before the US border is where it is today. It was thought back then that the ruins had been built by the Aztecs. It was small but packed with great info and history, we had a great time! Thanks so much!

The ruins are still in such good shape! The alignment of the walls with the solstices and the overall planning shows what a superior race this civilization was... Now we got to rely on AI for half the constructions and calculations :(

It was so beautifully done. Schools come visit and sometimes get a glimpse at the rituals with ceremonies being recreated by Native Americans. I wish we could have seen one. The great thing about this place was that it was small so we took our time to read about the history and their lifestyle. Little had a blast running around - it was perfect for him! Hi Hélène and Serge! The ancestral puebloans were spread over the four corners. Mesa Verde are the most famous ruins but there are many more of them, of different shapes and sizes. The inside of the reconstructed kiva was fantastic! I could see spending a few hours here - amazing place. The doorways were perfect for Little Man!

Why call it aztec?
Good question. According to the Aztec Ruins brochure, the site was thought to have been built by Aztecs when it was discovered in the mid 1800s.
