The problem for me is that I am born nearly deaf in both ears, 80% loss, and for a string instrument and me to work I'd need someone by my side all the time for many years before my fine sense of feel can feel the very small differences for a tuned or un tuned note. I do play clarinet however, bought it years later when I was maybe 17, 4 years later I ended up getting a full ride scholarship for clarinet. I only went one year, 22 credits, first chair clarinet orchestra and wind ensemble as a freshman, But, it was just way too difficult for me trying to understand the many "sound" related things involved. Today I'd happy to go back, some twenty years later, as I have a much better understanding. Credit Jacquilen Du Pre for my re interest and passion for classical music when I bought the clarinet at a paw shop (A Selmer Signature for $80) I, of course, didn't know for years that I happened to have a very good clarinet. Now, I'm trying to get the Buckun CG Carbon Clarinet set as it's carbon fiber tech is beneficial for me. But, years away before I could afford such an item. BTW, my absolute favorite piece so far is from 1950 Brahms Opus 108 Adagio by Horowitz and Milstein (I have it on Music CD mag). This particular way it was played is absolutely beautiful. I love how when a person who is passionate about their craft speaks of and describes it in the most poetic of ways. The tone of your voice literally conveys the same feeling as playing the instrument.. As if you and it are indistinguishable; one from the other.
I wish I had another 10 lifetimes so I could play violin at a very high skill level. Instruction like this makes me realize how much is going on tecnically when violin it's being played at that level of excellence..
These short videos help me very much to understand and enter in the mood of the Partitas. Contemporary music requires an additional effort of understanding to classical listeners, the same effort we did when we approached the classical at the beginning ... and we know it’s worth it. The drone note you described is a favorite device used by guitarists & referred to as a pedal tone, presumably referring to the use of a piano sustain pedal. Chic technique.

Interesting opening line....and next line.....It's like a V chord thing. Variations on the V chord. 1st line is Bluesy that resolves to the C#. Then the second line resolves to the D in a A7 chord which makes it a suspended sound. Like a hunched up cat. Put an A7th chord behind the lines and it makes more sense.... it's real bluesy. Go on youtube and find an A7th chord...have it loop while you play the first two lines.....it makes more sense...it works depending on how you phrase it. All the notes are variations of a A7th parent chord. Some notes are inside and some outside. The first line....A,C, D, C#...each note creates a chord variation of the parent "A 7th" chord. A = Tonic, C = sharp 9, D = sus 4th, C# = maj 3rd....here's the feeling. "A" note is resolved, C note - Sharp 9 is very tense, D note- sus 4th is less tense, C# - maj 3rd is more resolved. That's without even phrasing the line. I love those sounds. I hear them as a cat stalking his prey. Lots of tension. The little bits of chromatic gives it movement.....like little feet stalking....and that's just the first two lines. It's similiar to a jazz thing. This type of writing is like jazz improvisation. You could do the same type thing with a "A" diminished scale over a A min 7th chord. That scale doesn't change the flat 3rd (C....there's no C# in that dim scale...a c# would change the parent chord from an A min 7th to a A7th...as long as the scale doesn't have a C# you can use it over the A min 7th chord...that goes for any scale! A "Ab" whole tone scale works the same way over the A min 7th chord.) .....it's just variations of the parent chord. A jazz player will use bits of the scale and resolve.....that way there's not too much tension before resolution. A genius teacher named Dennis Sandole used 3 rules for this type of writing. He taught Coltrane and many other great players. It seems to fit on this tune....that style of writing.

This might be technically difficult, but it sounds horrible. This is why I prefer baroque. They knew how to make beautiful sounds. And the composers didn't spam everything with instructions. It was the performers job to figure out the ornaments. Give me H.I.F. Biber over one of those modern instrument torturers like this Abril character any time.

Use your knuckle to initiate the finger motion. It’s a fast vibrato.
All vibrato is dependent on relaxed and flexible fingers, for her it's effortless. 💅
