I love the OG Blackmagic pocket Cinema camera, but these days they can be expensive to RIG for modern production demands. This is how I have built my pocket camera up (with costs) and am super interested to hear about how you have rigged yours.....
Hey thanks Will, should have a separate review of the XLCS system coming soon....just been so busy commercially...trying to balance this and that....you know what Im saying
I still use the original Blackmagic 2.5k from time to time and everytime I see the image coming out, it is almost unbelievable. Thinking about getting the micro g1. XLCS have a nice cage for it as well. Like your rig
This is a great question, they have very different looks, like canvas vs print ... what was really important for the project I built this camera setup for was the larger DOF. I did test it against my G2 micro, but the pocket won out - plus the full RAW DNG files are tiny in size.
Love this. I have been playing the BMPCC OG rigging game since 2013. DJI's LiDAR AF sounds like a new addition. I just ordered the RAWLITE OLPF which is going to be a fun to drop in 😬 My sound solution has been the Sound devices PX 220i for the last decade with the BMMCC and the BMPCC OG. Shooting thousands of hours now.
Here is a stupid question for you- since you need the Lidar lower and the mounting screws are on the bottom, can the Lidar still do it's job if flipped upside down? Love the rig, I have been messing with mine since 2013. Has kept me sane.
I honestly didn't get the point of doing this. The only and useful addiction to the pocket is a RAWLITE OLPF (version 2). You can get a 512Sd card for around 50 dollars. I recently used the camera on a project, and just because I filmed on pirogues, and need a very extremely light piece of kit. The BMPCC 4K is much much much much better than this, especially at 2.6K S16 crop mode, where you get 8ms rolling shutter, one or maybe 1 and 1/5 stops of dynamic range more, less way less noise in the shadow, and much much better lowlight performances, plus gyro data to stabilize in post, and more resolution (2.6K vs 1080p, yes of course you can upscale but it's never gonna be the same). This camera is useful today where and when you need to film undercover. The rest makes no sense.
@cinechimp yeah I definitely am. I have been thinking of binging it in somewhere to fix. The image from this camera is still so amazing, and at this point it's really a unique look. Years ago.at this point, and I've still shot some of my favorite stuff on this camera with out a doubt. Am now currently thinking of bringing this camera back out from the basement and giving it the treatment it deserves

This was epic!
thanks brother
Great overview! Don't know how I missed this when it went live. Thanks for sharing! :)

i love how you bought used items, most of the creators these days buy new ones. appreciate u fam!
Thanks for the support Drake, much appreciated!
Kick ass! Nice build! I just built out my BMDCC with the DJI Focus pro. %*%%* love that camera now 👍👍
DJI's LiDAR AF totally changes the value proposition of great older cameras like these.

Will have a more indepth review of the cage system coming soon - you should watch before you buy
Very Cool!!!
Since the whole rig is now huge, why not replace the camera with a BM micro 4k G2? You get a full sized MFT sensor.

Very good Damo... Thorough...
Hey brother, how's life down under?

Hi Jack, you'll have to write back and let me know how the RAWLITE OLPF works out. I've seen them but have been hesitant to pull the trigger on one.
lovin your setup! i wish my bmpcc og didnt crap out on me 😢
oh no.....
Similar build with my BMMCC. Cinema DNG quality with up-rezzing software these days... Scary good. 1080p RAW is serious business.
You nailed it!
@@newpzcreative I use the same thing. One hell of a little camera.
This is the most confounding build I have ever seen. When your sd card costs more than your camera body
Very true, but as I own other cameras that require that media, it's not so much of a hit to the hip pocket.

Great question, unfortunately not as DJI states not to use the LiDAR in that manner. Its has to do with the units fans and heat management....
@@cinechimp 👍
I actually own 5 of the original Tilta cage kits for the bmpcc og, 3 new in the box never used.
Oh snap, I was searching for one of those ... couldn't find them anywhere in France
@@cinechimp I think I just about controlled the world supply at one point.
hahha, got to love a monopoly!
Me and the pocket, no way man - this camera is too good to sell off....or did you mean the cages?
Oh so this is you ! haha great to know

The point is any camera can make you a living with the right accessories, and your reasons are as valid as ours...horses for courses.
Yes my micro hdmi broke on mine
Oh no, if you are game I have seen some great tutorials online on how to DIY repair ...

I reckon you should give it another crack Gavin, why not?
