    Only live a 2 hour drive away and never saw the railway in action. Thanks!

    I've done this a few times in a 16' ski boat. Really impressed by how efficient and friendly the operators are.

    Did this in 2004 while on the Great Loop. A very interesting and efficient operation.

      I didn’t either. Came upon it just by chance when I was staying at the Severn Lodge a five minuted drive away.

    Fascinating, thank you so much. Just watched a video of my niece and husband, in June of this year and their boat. Had no idea!!

    Great video. I've been to this Big Chute Marine Railway but unfortunately didn't see it in operation. Now I have finally, from your video. Very interesting 👍⛵🛤

      Glad you enjoyed it Chris. The next time you are up to Gravenhurst, come home via Hwy 400 rather than 11 and drop by the Big Chute. It is only about 15 minutes from Severn Lodge or better yet stay over at the lodge and make it easy. To get an idea about the lodge view my video on the Severn Lodge.

    I heard about this when i went to a cottage on the Trent-Severn Waterway last summer and was super interested because, well, who wouldn’t be?

    The slings are weighted so when they are released they drop away from the props BUT you are cautioned to not be too eager to pull out of the carriage until they've dropped away. Some have damaged props and lost rudders due to their impatience.

    Am I crazy, or do I remember swimming in the sluice area as a kid, like 25 years ago. I don't think it was fenced off like it is now. Great video!

      Well I can only say, if you did swim in the sluice you do like to live on the edge and
      are a braver man than I.
      Thanks for your kind comment on my video, glad you liked it.

    They built those things to last back in the day. Today it would cost a billion dollars, break down every other week, and be out of date in 5 years...

    Sorry not sure how it works.. do they provide the boat rental? I dont know how to drive a boat so ....

    • @PierreRepooc
      @PierreRepooc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No this is just used to lift your boat from the bottom of the waterfall to top, connecting the two bodies of water. Or visa versa.

    Is there a name for the song playing in the background when reading the signs

    • @PierreRepooc
      @PierreRepooc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is called “Acoustic Sunrise” from the You Tube Sound Effects Library. This can be found in the description listing of the video.

    I'm planning to paddle the whole waterway. Do canoes &kayaks use this railway as well??

    • @PierreRepooc

      My wife and I have used it on our Seadoos before and have had some canoes and kayaks in it with us. They don't bother with the slings for the littlest boats, you just end up sitting on the dry deck of it once it's out of the water. I think we just held on (or maybe roped) to the side of it so that we'd move as it does when it's coming up and out of the water.

      @@PierreRepooc -Yep. Told by professors and instructors nn an advanced video course, on a public speaking course, and during my university course (St-Mary's, Halifax). Even told it was not a guide as so many things are for videography, but a rule. Yeah - I know, rules are made to be broken. But in general... wise to follow. Did not mean any insult.
