Crazy that this video popped up today. I just got back from Kirkfield and stayed just a few minutes from the Kirkfield lift lock. We didn't get to see it in action, but now hearing you speak about it gives so much more context. Thanks for doing these videos. I firmly believe it's this type of content that makes TH-cam a great place to be.

Great overview. One minor correction: The other marine railway on the system (Swift Rapids) was actually replaced by a single giant lock (the largest flood lock on the system), not a set of locks. It's a pretty impressive lock which I definitely recommend checking out. The challenge is that there are no public roads to get to it, so water access is your best bet.

Westminister ponds in London (ON), known locally as Pond Mills, along with some kettle lakes north northeast & just outside of St. Mary's are local geological oddities, like Elora or the escarpment & Hamilton in general, although they are still just small ponds. -also: could you teach us aboot the history Bruce poewr plant?

I’ve been on the tour boat in Peterborough. 😅 Also been over the Big Chute a number of times over the years in my own boat. 🛥️ Too bad you didn’t catch any boats on the car, as you’d get to see the way the slings work. Edit: if you go five minutes downstream from the “little place called Big Chute”, you get to a big place called Little Chute. 😅
I have had the pleasure of doing all 45 locks in 2019 on a 48 ft cruiser yacht ! It was on my bucket list ! Thanks for the look back !
