Build vs. Buy: DIY Your Own Outdoor Kitchen Pavilion on a Budget!

  • This is how you build a timber frame gazebo without timbers for your fire pit patio. I used lumber from the hardware store to build this small gazebo or pavilion, whichever it is. Gazebo kits cost too much so I built mine from scratch and saved a ton of money. This gazebo is perfect for our upcoming outdoor kitchen and smoker project! Is this a timber frame or a post and beam? Let me know what you think.

      Wooly Booger??? Like those tires I used to have my old trike? Yea she was a Big Red 200ES Rear AND FRONT Racks, High, Low, AND REVERSE Gears, PLUS NO CHAIN.... Yup.. she had a sweet DRIVE SHAFT!!! It was like a TANK!!! Except for when 15 year old me got my hands on tryin to fix it... Didn't know a dang thing about carburetors, fuel/air mixtures, spark gaps, OR compression... so pulling that spark plug in and out hundreds of times too it's toll while trying to get that sucker to start some days.... eventually the threads just gave up and shot the spark plug out and into the bottom of the gas tank..... :'( That was the last time I ever sat on her soft n comfy plastic foam seats while she was purring..... eventually sold her off to someone who knew what he was doing... he spiffied her up with new plastics, fixed up the bent racks from the flips we did together (unintentionally of course lol) and brought her back to her former glory..... he sold her to some Mexican kid that somehow set it on fire within 2 weeks and it was SCRAP :'(
      R.I.P. Big Bertha and your AMAZING Wooly Boogers that paddled me through many a HUGE puddle
      - - - Sorry about that.. you just managed to bring back memories I haven't thought about in about 25 years... Thank you :) .... And I got my eyes peeled for that dang wooly booger that's stalkin you... gonna turn 'em into a NEW set of tire if'n I catch 'em!! Use them big 'ol teeth for soem EXTRA GRIP!!! :D

Its extremely emotionally and psychologically taxing leaving us SPENT after a full day of hubby pushing the limits! True Story y'all.

    19:29 for the back of the roof panels, old school wives tale, rural legend, call it what you want....use light blue/sky blue. It supposedly helps keep wasps from building nests because they don't see it as protected from the sky. My parents did this with their outdoor porches and over the last 5 years the number of nests built is noticeably less than when they were the original darker color. Maybe it works, maybe it is luck or confirmation bias, but when I build my porch extension for my home I'll be painting it light blue underneath.

  • @leifhietala8074
    @leifhietala8074 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Correct color: POLAR WHITE. If you're hot out there under the sun, send that energy back up to outer space. The dark panel gets hot under the sun and then the back of the panel radiates the heat down on you. Sure there's shade, but the heat is still a THING. Bright white roofs don't get anywhere near as hot underneath.

    VERY GOOD!! Just a BTW, I was taught a L O N G time ago...paint the soffits and underside of all exposed-to-the-open-air surfaces a "Carolina Blue"/Sky Blue (I lived in Chapel Hill, NC for a while, saying often heard was "If God didn't like UNC-CH, why did he make the sky Carolina Blue?). It 'stops' mud wasps/daubers and paper wasps from nest building (why?? No Idea, but might be seen as the sky, not a hard surface?" Also, very relaxing when underneath looking up, as you will be using the beautiful pergola/gaze-bow (as it was called in the movie "The Gazebo").

    I think I would have extended the roof at least 4 feet further out in every direction to give a little wind protection. It's not like you didn't have the lumber strength to carry the extra load. It would allow you to use the thing in the rain even with a bit of a wind.

    That is a really sharp looking gazebo but my God, you overbuilt the bajeebers out of that. That would be standing after an apocolypse. Freaking awesome build.

    Leave your ridge cap a couple inches long on both ends for rain, and don't worry abouts heights, the ground will break your fall.

    G'Day mate another very entertaining video with that Haxman sense of humor lol I got to agree with you about getting up on them larger ladders it is extra spooky especially the older you get lol. You were spot on with the color of your roofing sheets it turned out just fine so well done indeed and am looking forward to the next exciting episode. Till then, stay safe Y' all.

    Sorry for laughing but people scared of heights that do framing. You all just make me laugh out loud. I ain’t scared of heights and don’t do framing almost ever. I was up around three stories high on a boom using a chainsaw couple weekends ago. I did have a rall restraint on but with it or not, still wasn’t scared. I just wore it as we were cutting limbs up to 30” wide. Even at 24-30” long, that’s a lot of weight. And it’s falling. Proud you did what you did being tied off if that helps you and pushing. That’s how we get over phobias. Respect to you.

    Couple suggestions for next time: dry fit all your parts on the ground first, don't carry those beams up the ladder instead prop one end on the post and hoist the other end up with a rope and pulley(s), for working out your lengths for the braces etc. use cardboard for your prototype/template it's much cheaper than lumber. Great job, though. Thanks for the vid, I hope to be doing something similar in the next year or two.

    For future reference, use one of your angled cutoffs and clamp that to one of your uprights. That'll give you a ledge to rest your angle brace on while you're arranging straps, or maybe you can just get a couple of inches of lag screw in to hold things together so you don't drop it.
