  • Finally got back to the cabin after a month away. The farm has been busy with new additions and my kid’s sports schedules are ramping up.
    Was able to get a couple more courses of logs done plus have dinner with my wife at the cabin.

    Showing a baby goat balancing on it's mother back and then cutting to a sheep getting a feed bucket stuck on it's head is a pretty good summary on sheep and goats.

    Howdy, I'm Off grid In Kentucky. The past storm took down over 7 trees on the property. Uprooted them. A lot of problems happen from that storm. We are all Working together to get the trees cut up cleaned up and firewood Stacked. It only takes one storm to Rec-havic

    • @TheOffGridExperience

      That storm was crazy. Also ripped a roof panel off the back of the cabin where I didn't have it secured good. It's good to have help for clean up. Take care!!

    For the wall "logs," it would be efficient to take stock of how many of each variation is needed. Then, in a flat area, lay out all the boards and put them together as such. It might be more exact, and there'd be less picking up and putting down of various tools. That way, when it comes to building, it'd just be playing with legos.

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It would be great to do that, but I don't mind getting exact measurements for each "log" so everything fits better.
      Thanks for the comment 👍

    • @AlfredCataldo

      Did you ever think about making a jig to set the spacing, would speed up the process and you wouldn't need to pull out the tape measure for every board.@@TheOffGridExperience

    Nice to see a new video glad to hear all is well and changes sometimes are a good thing. Life goes by so fast and we don't even realize it until one day we wake up and say to self: "it's time to change priorities", Even small changes can make a huge difference and we can get grounded again and even change our way of thinking. We only go through this life once and by golly do what you love and others around us as well. God has blessed you with a wonderful life, family and even special Gifts of building your cabin. Thank you for this video and the cabin is beautiful.

    We use a cast iron skillet that has been passed down from my great grandmother.
    She died in 1988 at the age of 94.

    Here's some synchronicity for you. I was just watching another channel I follow Martijn Doorland who is restoring a stone cabin in the Italian Alps and he just suffered a tremendous storm with devastation on his site. He's spent the last week restoring things. Adversity strikes but we keep a stiff upper lip and move on. Loved the baby sheep and goats. We used to keep goats and they were terrible brats. My Dad would come in for a break and they would try to turn the door knob so they could come in too. They were up on our cars and eating my Mom's precious flowers. lol

People try to mimick amythimg they see someone else set the precident for success.. be individuals not sheep for Gods sake... off grid channels all seem the same lately. @TheOffGridExperience I can't knock ya if I could escape away I'd be out there as far as I could get and I'd live there.. you did the roof very unconventional btw and I'm wondering have u had any leaks ? Reason I'm asking is I've done many roofs and it's always bottom up overlapping felt or ice n water and this is because water flows top to bottom.. until the ice builds a the lowest point and melts and freezes, causing issues from ice lifting and backing up under the material. Esp w gutters and not so much without... u layed side to side if I remember but ur theory was water isn't getting beneath the metal?? I may be wrong...

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @itcantbetruebutis7778 no leaks at all and we get a ton of rain in Tn. The vapor barrier was unconventional in that it was overlapped vertically. The foil foam barrier was done in the normal horizontal method starting at the bottom.

    Jamie I had so much anxiety while you were building the logs this time. I had the most anxiety while you were in the corner with the circular saw. I just knew you were going to injure yourself. I believe you would have been far safer with a reciprocating saw or the saw you used in the beginning of the video to cut the tree.
    As you were assembling the logs you dropped your caulk gun and other tools at your feet hindering you and tripping you too.
    Just as a suggestion, you could spend a few minutes building yourself a jig to get the offsets you need for your log assembly.
    I speak from experience, the clutter at your feet during a project can cause an injury. It may be a minor injury or major, but take that moment for prevention, or this cabin build may end up feeling like the farm chores you spoke of in the beginning of the video.
    Thanks for sharing this build with us, and tell your boss lady thank you for sharing you with us too.

      Not to worry. I've made that corner cut about 50 times on this cabin.
      Thanks for watching 👍

    Looking good. I believe I would have knocked together a couple of sawhorses to build those “logs” more at waist level. That’s a lot of bending over, at least for me. Also a couple of jigs to get the spacing the same rather than measuring each one. Measure once, build a jig, end repetitive measuring. You’re doing good though holding down a full time job, farming animals, and this. Got a little worried it had been three weeks since your last video.

      Thanks. Spring is a busier time with lots going on. Hope to find the time to get the cabin finished.

    It amazes me that you don't use a jig to create the wall timbers

    Great videos, thanks for all the hard work putting the content on this channel. I'm curious how you would compare your method to the tongue-and-groove d-logs you can buy.

      Thanks for watching 👍 Not really sure on the comparison only that this method should be a bit less expensive.

    The goats would love the woods, though.

    Totally understandable with the kid's sports. What sports do they play? My 11 year old son plays travel hockey for the Knoxville Jr Ice Bears, we played a bunch of Nashville teams this year. Love the videos, great craftsmanship on that cabin!

    THESE VIDEOS ARE GREAT!!! Question: In TN you can just build without permits, plans, contractors etc? This is what I want to do! Land is handled (TN), now I just need the time and knowledge!

      Thanks 👍 Each county is different so I would check with them. The more rural you are, the less permits you typically need.
