I like to feel it ticking the rocks. If I’m hitting rock I’ll slow down and if I’m not I’ll use a normal retrieve. Also, you can raise and lower your rod tip to control depth. A higher rod tip will result in the crank going shallower. I’ll lower the tip as the bait gets closer to the boat to maintain depth.
I enjoy your videos and I love fishing with willow cats. When putting a willow cat on the hook I always use a towel to handle the willow cat. I have never been stuck by one and it is super easy to put them on the hook.

On a side note I REALLY want to figure out how to target the INSANELY large Goats of the Winnebago system or the Bay because I think they get even bigger out there lol
I got a 23.5 inch sheephead on the Fox River under the bridge at Oshkosh last week. What a fight!

Lol. Everything likes madtoms. We catch monster flatheads down here in southern illinois on em and small bullheads
They do seem to attract large fish for some reason.
From what I know of those things Ill stick to my many other non stinging methods to get some eyes lol

That top water small mouth catch was epic!! If you want even bigger drum I suggest trying live crayfish. Caught some real mutant drum using them.

Gotta hand it to you lance I don’t mess with walleye in August although this year the bite went well into July … it’s panfish for me till October
I try to mix it up a bit. I've been doing a bit of panfish fishing as well.
