This game got a fair amount of heat all because the guest racers from the N64 version couldn't return due to competition reasons. Nintendo clearly didn't want Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts getting free promotion from a competitor, and Microsoft wasn't as friendly to their competitors back then; they were just as fierce as Sony in terms of rivalry. In case anyone is wondering, this game came out in 2007, a year before Nuts & Bolts released, which was announced in 2006 and released in 2008. Still, I await the day someone mods in Dixie Kong and Tiny Kong in the N64 version to replace the characters they replaced in the DS version.
Unlike the N64 Version, the battle track theme as a speed-up version. Also Smokey Castle was altered a bit, instead of bananas, there's Taj tokens, and also unlike the N64 version, you can carry up to 5 opposed to 2 in the N64 version.
The power up tokens are pretty good once you learn how to use them. The boost one shoots a portal once you're on an open road, and it boosts you, shields you, a controls you automatically

Yeah an n64 DKR mod with Tiny, Dixie, and the new tracks would be the definitive version.

This is my favorite diddy kong racing, if only nintendo can remake it again in hd and with all content from the past 2 versions.
I still have the game if you want we can play one day :)
How did you do that? Playing both.
The emulator MelonDS supports multiple players.
