Have you ever been to a MicroCenter, Scott? Well worth the trip, IMO - car pool it w/some pals. Super selection, service and fair pricing. They do ship, but am not familiar w/shipping prices etc. Cheers!
Yeah, I've been to one in the Chicago area a few times. It is a fun trip. A lot of their stuff is only available in store, or at least the good deals. Thanks for the feedback.
Also we don't have every parts in reach because some parts are just not available and for me scamazon is not even an option for me...i created account ordered something and when i wanted to pay they labeled my transaction as suspicious and locked my account then wanted to send a picture of my credit card so i said fak you scamazon!
Italy here, apparently we know how to package stuff (aka we pay people i guess). Nothing i bought in the last 4 builds online and used got damaged in delivery
You seem pretty unlucky, man. I've ordered hundreds of items online in recent years. Never had a packaging problem. OK, I live in Europe, maybe shipping standards are higher here.
Amazon is top notch here in EU in terms of delivery and services. Might be areas bad served, but generally speaking, they're above anyone else. Online shops as well, though. They're careful and here customer service makes me believe is better than other parts of the world. What we lack here is more diversity in products and offers but, I must say, I'm a happy online buyer.
I think it might be your governments tend to be more pro-consumer than in the USA. Thanks to you all we are all seeing USB-C become more universal and standardized. If it weren't for the EU, I doubt Apple would have started using it. Another example is Meta giving people in the EU the option to opt-out of AI training on public Instagram and Facebook posts. We don't have that option in the USA.
I had the same issue with my first build. Ordered a PSU from Newegg and received a pink keychain a month later. But my brother in Christ you live only an hour and a half from microcenter? If I lived that close to one I’d be a regular customer.
I live maybe 40 minutes train ride to Microcenter. It's absolutely amazing, I could go there just to stare at everything and stay entertained. But unfortunately, it's in a shady part of town and I can't actually do much else over there so it doesn't warrant a trip unless I can't get something off Amazon.
That would be nice for a component here and there! When I bought my CPU I saw it like $40 cheaper aty closest Microcenter, which I guess would have paid for the gas and tolls.
I feel lucky, when i order stuff from the biggest tech retailer in my country it comes in thick boxes with decent paddimg inside. Boxes are normally strong enough to support my entire weight without budging (yes, i have tried stepping on them). It also means that I feel comfortable re-using the box for shipping or transport, even multiple times
I've been accumulating parts over the last couple of months for my first gaming build. I do have a Microcenter about an hour away, but the location is a major pain to get to through really bad traffic, and you could get all the way there and find out they don't have what you want, so online it is. My experience with shipping has mostly been good, but I have had a couple of instances like yours as well. Still waiting for my GPU, which has been the biggest stressor. It took a month before the one I wanted was in stock anywhere, and then another month wait for it to ship. Supposed to be here next week.
It's awesome that you are doing your first build! That's a good point about a long trip to Microcenter and then finding out they don't have what you want.
@@TECHiSuppose That was a big issue for me, because I needed to accumulate parts over time, so I'd be making multiple trips, taking that risk each time. I wish it was closer, because it would be fun just to go check it out periodically.
Bit concerning how little packaging + protection there was for your parts in America. Few weeks ago I bought my PC all online (Australia) and every single part I got came in a box with air bags and some Haribos for some reason, it might just be an amazon thing?
I vaguely remember hearing about or getting a package years ago with candy. I did some searches on Google, but didn't see a specific reason. A lot of it are posts on Reddit. In the USA, profit above all else culture has kinda taken hold so a lot of shops have started cutting back on stuff like packing material. I did buy a few pieces from a (mostly) camera gear shop called B&H in New York that packed things well. I probably should have used them for more of the components, lol.
First gaming build mostly Amazon and some locally shopping,,,perfect! This setup was upgraded, bought on store at Micro Center and shipped to me with combo deal 7800x3d, mobo and ram...perfect again! Maybe I was just lucky...😊
@@TECHiSuppose no, they don't! Just, one of my friend's brothers, living near the Micro Center, I sent him the link for a combo deal (under 500$) to get it and shipped it to me (Europe)...👍
That's a good point. It looks like they do. Not something I've considered. www.bestbuy.com/site/price-match-guarantee/qualified-competitors/pcmcat1693426756861.c?id=pcmcat1693426756861
The 9900x and RTX4060 isn't a bad combo. They should work well together at 1080p or 1440p. The 9900x will work with future GPU upgrades also. Most of the parts I buy for my builds are from Amazon or Newegg. I never have any problem with either. Amazon is great for their return policy. You could saved $60+ dollars going with a MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi. I don't think you would be able to use the bay mounted SD card reader because the B650 only has one USB header, but you can buy an SD reader dongle for 5 dollars. Nice build. Good luck.
Yeah, I do mostly creative tasks like video and photo editing. The GPU isn't super important to me and I'm fine with two 1080p screens. To do 4k tests in my last 4060 video I used something called an Atomos Ninja V HDMI recorder that supports that resolution to get my PC to output in 4k, lol. The motherboard I got is the MSI X670E Gaming WIFI. I didn't check beforehand, but I see that it has two USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 header. I was expecting only one USB 3.0 so I bought a converter for USB 3.1 to a 3.0 header. Looks like I don't need it. I used external USB memory card readers right now but they are a hassle to have around when so I'm going toward the internal solution.
my closest microcenter is HOURS away 😭😭 I wish I could get those sweet prices. AND msi’s website didn’t let me check out, so I had to pay $80 more from amazon
I see, that's rough. I think the Google account thing on MSI's website didn't work for me. I think I used PayPal, but yeah.. kind of concerning how buggy their online store is.
The 8-core 9800X3D is more expensive than a 9900X, because of the 3D cache. It's far better for gaming. If you just do pshop, rendering, or CAD/CAM work, the 9950X (or soon, toe 9950X3D) would be the better choice.

Imagine how is it to live in EU without microcenter, yes we have local shops, but prices are bad,so our best option is amazon...
Sorry to hear that.
I live in Sweden and it works great to buy online. We do also have some physical store for computer parts. It works great.

Not much choice but to buy online. Best Buy doesn't have what I want and I am not driving 600 miles round trip to go to Microcenter.
yep
Someone you may know living close to micro center and shipping to you!
