  • Lets look inside and clean out this broken, dusty, filthy, dirty amplifier. Fix it and make it work again for me mate Jon! There seems to be a common theme with these onkyo amplifiers, capacitors dry out and dsp chips fail. This one was just such a mess inside that a damn good service seemed to fix it. Lets keep our fingers crossed that the fault doesnt come back.

    I have this onkyo SR309 not working but again did you say it is a sanyo unit I am freaking out now.... Santo is not the most reputed home appliances system around... Just midrange garbage then.... .that was a quick fix 🔧... Nice work..

      A lot of Sanyo parts inside... :-) Sorry to tell you :-)

      @Dubious Engineering I am certainly disappointed.... Had a bad experience with sanyo products in the past.... And bits and parts from sanyo does not instill confidence..... 😟😔😞

    Liked that bit of Tocatta and Fugue (have I spelled either if those properly?) although it did sound a bit Stylophone at the end there. Of course, maybe that's how Bach intended it... Cheers mate, stay healthy.

      hahah... that’s not an instrument I’d like to be associated with for obvious reasons :-) ... wife is sick, but we don’t think it’s the bad stuff... just a cough, no fever... keeping fingers crossed... here’s a little Monday music for you :-). th-cam.com/video/GQc_9qCAZ2A/w-d-xo.html

    Hey I just bought a denon 3803 when I got it home I realized inside it's DIRTY!! As much as in this video. Can I vacuum, light brush and blow off the circuit with can compressed air and then go over with isopropyl to clean and lube the jacks/pots with electrical spray???? Sound like a good way to do it. The good thing is my unit is fully functional, God knows how lol.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds exactly like the cleaning process you should give it!!!

      @@DubiousEngineering I keep hearing about EMS from vacuum cleaners and that it's not safe. I was only going to use it at very low suction. Ok?

      This is exactly what I was looking for. I realized my parents HT is dirtier than this and I'm going to clean it. I hope that it works after this, otherwise I'll have tu buy them another (.V)

    I just bought a new Onkyo 6100, how do I prevent dust from getting inside the Receiver? Can I put something on top of it?

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A very thin handkerchief... don't block the air vents

  • @electronash

    How's it going, Howard. Hope you're keeping away from the lurg.
    Still need to fix my Onkyo TX-SR607. It has the usual dodgy soldering on the BGA DSP chip, so I bought a new (pre-balled) chip.
    Need to throw it in the reflow oven at some point, but I don't have a proper controller for the oven, so it'll be a case of watching when the temp gets above about 260C.
    The BGA version of the chip gets way too hot, so weakens the solder over time. They really should have put a heatsink on it.
    The older model you have there looks to be mainly non-BGA, so probably a fair bit more reliable.

      Hi Ash! Great to hear from you!! --> Likewise mate... keep clear of the nasties!! In the past I have got away with pre-heating the family oven to 200C (max), then quickly using a hot air gun and JK thermocouple to re-solder those ball grid array buggers... they really are a nightmare!! Onkyo Fffed up big style!! Fingers crossed Jon's unit keeps going after this service...

    Where can u buy onkyo parts from

  • @steveclough6794
    @steveclough6794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    reflowing is a waste of time for sure the fault will come back you need to use the old lead and tin solder and redo the hole board same problem happened with the ps3 and Xbox 360 crap solder

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hate lead free!! I’m sure that’s not good for me... but!!! Leaded solder and flux runs so much better with a shiny finish!! Everyone wants their dogs to have a shiny coat!! Eat lead!! :-). Genuinely thanks for your thoughts and feedback... stay safe :-)

    i just wanted to make sure you remember my comment 5 days ago, when i told you that you wasted my time.
    mine does all the clicking, everything is on and it has no audio. i'll try again to do nothing at all like you did, but i don't think it's going to work. i hope you stub your toe on something.
    watched the 11 mins again cuz the TX-SR309 doesn't have any REAL repair videos.

      @@DubiousEngineering actually your right.. i should try to be more positive. like how kids get participation prizes for losing at football.
      even though they didn't have what it takes.. they deserve to be rewarded same as a winner does. and so do you. good job buddy, you really tried! your low effort, and low contribution is STILL appreciated. and while no one in the world was helped by this video (because you did nothing at all), i'd like to say it was worth it. because you tried, probably. and if you didn't that's ok too, your still a winner to me. it's more of an 11 min long artwork piece if you think about it. it's my fault, i thought it was a repair video 😅
