There are many decluttering programs out there that I don't think a Christian even needs to refer to it as "KonMariing" or whatever. I see a lot of Christians trying to Christianize KonMari and it's unnecessary. Just say you're Decluttering.

Hi :) Just wanted to add, like you I did not thank my clothes or other household items when I de cluttered but thanked God he blessed us with such abundance. However at the same time it really hit my heart as to how much I over buy and need to be a much better steward with the money and blessings he does provide to us. I am much more thoughtful now before I spend. (Not counting of course clothes that simply are worn out or no longer fit ) I donated all our over flow to our local Salvation Army. Spring cleaning is good for the heart and the soul :)

For the shoes get a smaller shoe rack. It will fit in your closet on the floor perfectly. I have one in the mud room and one in the bedroom next to the dresser. My shoe racks have two tiers with the the floor being third, lowest tier.

I was just watching this and you mentioned you shouldn’t be holding on to things for sentimental reasons. I can tell you, we just pulled out my grandmothers dress from her wedding 60, yes, 60 years ago. We’re planning their anniversary party and plan to display her dress and my grandfathers suit for the party. Hold on to it! You’ll be so glad you did one of these days.

I enjoyed your video thank you for this. I like having an organized closet too. I like to use matching hangers also. When it is visually appealing, one tends to put things away where they belong right away. I would suggest investing in an expandable shoe rack for your shoes. Leaving them spread on the floor of your closet just invites chaos and makes it hard to vacuum . I enjoy using mine as it keeps my shoes tidy and keeps the floor nice and clear. I like the fact that I can stretch my rack wider or narrower depending on how many pairs I am using in a season. Personally I prefer to use matching pressure closing hangers for my slacks and skirts. The pants I hang lengthwise from the hems because the weight keeps the fabric looking fresh pressed looking for work.
Organization is all very subjective based on individual needs and available space. I enjoy watching other peoples ideas and methods to experiment with and see what works for me.

This is on my list tomorrow. Closet clean out and reorganize. I don't do the Konmari method either. I don't thank inanimate objects for joy. I thank God for blessing me with these things and hope they will bring joy to someone else. I also thank God that I don't have to continue to wear something that doesn't fit well or I've grown tired of wearing. I'm like you, I hope that I will make better choices and purchase fewer clothes in the future. Great video!

Love the idea of your closet being a small shop where everything fits you and is your style!😊 Also, one way of knowing, without having to remember😜, if you've worn something over a certain period of time is to turn the hanger backwards in the closet. At the end of the summer anything on a hanger still turned backwards gets tossed. I am a Christian, but I do find it helpful for people that have an exceptionally hard time getting rid of stuff to thank the item. It emotionally helps the person to let go especially if the item is sentimental. I LOVE your thanking God for His blessing your life and providing for your needs!! 💜😘

I know you said your dress wasn’t the most comfortable but it was so cute! I always have to tackle the closet at least 2 times a year, my son is growing like a weed and I get new clothing from family. When I get rid of clothing I save it specifically it for our church’s annual sale before Christmas and it greatly impacts the community. I think the vows are very fitting for the bedroom, too often what has happened in life can get carried in there but I believe that serves as a beautiful reminder of what is and isn’t to be brought there.

I totally understand the "not thanking the item" part. It does sound a little weird. One tip I do (but don't follow through) is that when I wear something and wash it, I put it back on the hanger and turn the hanger around, so you put it on the rack from the back. Then it's easier to remember what you have worn. But you also have a lot less clothes than I do. I need to work on my closet too. I've arranged my shirts by color and long sleeve vs short sleeve for maybe 20 years now. It definitely helps to see what my favorite colors are! I don't wear much yellow or orange and stick to more muted tones. And i'm just glad that we can all declutter without fully using the Konmari method. I have used some of her methods for years not knowing that it would be this sensation now. Like gathering everything in one place and folding clothes in such a way that I can see them all. Great job on going through it all so quickly! And yes, praise the Lord that he has provided more than enough!

Whatever money we make at the yard sale we either put back into our home or use it for something we need and or money towards a trip.

Good job. You might consider either a shoe rack for the floor & or buy a few sm-med sized plastic stacking boxes for shoes. I put good shoes in 1 on a top shelf & then 4 boxes one for flip flops, 1 for sandals, 1 for flats/ballet shoes & 1 for sneakers stacked on the floor. They don't get dusty & take up a lot less space. If you have bigger empty boxes already consolidate flip flops with sandals & sneakers with flats. You could also donate some of the shoes & tops to a dress up box for a small girl you know. Then she'll look like you or at least she'll think she does which is what counts.

First, I donate clothing to our local Homeless Shelters (we have two). When I had a hysterectomy I decided to purchase the same amount of money I spent on feminine products for myself and donate them to the local shelters. I also started making Easter dresses and shirts (I usually will buy pants for the boys)for the children in the shelters. I call the shelter about two weeks prior to Easter to find out the possible sizes of the kids there.(I have been doing this for a long, long time, so the manager of the shelter(s) know me and appreciate what I do.(I started making Christmas clothes and figured out that everyone "remembers" to donate during Christmas, but very few donate during other holidays that is why I started sewing and donating for the Easter Holidays. I also donate little arm bands or hairbows for St. Patrick's Day and I donate the boxes of Valentine's Day cards for the children in the shelters too.
Goodwill is the LAST place I donate. I keep hearing bad things about Goodwill and the more I hear the less I donate. I donate all my really good clothing I no longer wear to the shelters because a lot of the women there need clothing to go on job interviews.
    ************************************************************************************
    Lastly, Megan,
I got a great idea from you for my master bedroom closet!! I am going to go to Wal-Mart and purchase a couple of the smaller tension rods (they were under $7....I just looked at them today)and I am going to put them side-ways like you have the rods at each end of the closet! That is an amazing idea!! Thanks so much! :)

As for the preferred place I donate to, it would be the Salvation Army thrift store for my things and to friends' children for my children's clothes and shoes. Could you share what athletic skirts you have and the best advice on how to make, alter or where to purchase? This would help me a bunch on trying to dress my 11 year old daughter who is already 5'5" tall. Thank you so much. Thank you for posting this video! It's motivation for me! I like donating clothing to our local "second chance" program where people go through court-appointed job training and need business-type (i.e. dresses, skirts, sweaters) wear for job interviews. We also have an Amish-run disabled adults' home that we donate housewares and clothing to for their residents.

I agree how you thanked God for the blessings of clothes. I take my clothes to a shop where they purchase them. They either give store credit, which is more, or cash.. I go for credit. I can find some good used clothes. I also use the categorize by color method and style hangers
BTW, it the thrift store doesn't buy my clothes I donate!

Have you considered a stackable shoe rack to free up some of the closet floor?

I love the idea of trying to learn from items you don’t like or didn’t work out. Have you considered using a shoe holder of some kind? I feel like it helps keep them from getting crazy.

It must be nice having more freedom as a Mennonite as far as what you're allowed to have. I saw those modern shoes your husband has and thought, you'd never find an Amish guy wearing those unless he was on Rumspringa lol! Part of my mom's family come from the Amish, so Amish and Mennonite lifestyles are fascinating to me. I'd like to learn Pennsylvania Deitsch, or Plaut Dietsch as it's also called. I speak a little standard German thanks to my granddad and mom being fluent.

ThredUp is great for unwanted clothes! They are picky with what they take, but what they don't, they donate. You get a percentage of what they sell and can use it as shopping credit or get it in cash.

I laughed when you commented on cowboy boots, I often forget that outside of TX it's not normal to have even 1 pair much less more than 1! I donate to Salvation Army, I try to steer clear of goodwill because of their financial practices. Our closest thrift store is 50 miles away :(

Yes I drop stuff off at SA's bins sometimes too! Yes cowboy boots aren't super common around here except in the trucking community!

Hi Meagan. I am new to your channel. Great decluttering! Have you ever thought of adding a shelf for your shoes? And pant/skirt hangers for your skirts? They will hang nicely and be less bulky. I too organize my shirts by colour, so much easier. And I too didn’t Thank my closing, I got the idea while decluttering lol Thank you for sharing! ☺️
