- Real talk guys. For the longest time, I never wanted to admit I was sad, out of fear that people would judge me or say that I’m being ungrateful. Kahit ako napapaisip, how can someone like me, who looks like they made their dream come true, still be depressed?
I did this talk recently and it was challenging to sum up everything about my mental health in 15 minutes. It’s my most honest sharing yet, and I wanted to be sure that if i spoke about it, it was coming from a place of strength and confidence. There’s no way I’m 100% okay now as it’s always a work in progress and everyday you just find healthier ways to cope.
After this, I would like to continue talking about mental health with you. I’ve started to equip myself with the right people around me to make sure that whatever I share is helpful. Thank you to MUO, LoveYourself & all my close friends who knew and who saw. 💙

I’m not sure if this message reaches you, but I’m so very grateful for you.
In 2015 it was through you I got to know that there was a miss universe contest, to put that aside, when I hear you speak back in the day, I thought to myself there are people like you who are so kind and elegant in every way, I was thrilled to see you win and ever since you had a special place in my life.
Thank you for trusting us and sharing your journey with us, it was really empowering and I feel you and I understand, now that I am in a place of influence and power, I realize everything you just said was true about myself as well.
The question which you answered stuck with me from that day till this day and when you said it again so many memories just came back, yes I am confidently handsome with a heart and it will always be there forever.

This year, I became top 1 of the dean's list. I published my first book. I ran my own business. But in the bed my mother recently I had an aneurysm in, I imagined myself wasting away. I felt like I had no reason to be happy. I almost lost my mother this year and our debts are high. I don't know how to cope and I feel alone every night when no one even checks on me because everyone assumes I'm okay. Thank you for this.

You will be okay. I hope this will help, try to meditate to clear your mind everyday and write down all the things you are grateful for. I was depressed last year for more than 3 months, I feel you. You can make it through Ramayana. Keep on fighting. You are amazing. Always remember that. And everything happens for a reason.

The grammatical lapses is what makes her super cute, she creates phrases that are all her own, which makes her more appealing to foreign markets. The content is very interesting and the delivery so pleasant and credible.
Seriously, I don't know how to love Pia more. I have loved and looked up to her so much since the MU2015 event, and even up to these days!
The last time she visited Bangkok to be a guest speaker at a Miss Universe Thailand event, I saw her in real life, and she looked flawless! So stunning beautiful. I was trying to take a selfie of myself with her from afar, and she looked back at my phone camera too-one of the best days of my life!
Even though I'm Thai, I'm so proud of Pia (and Catriona and the other contestants from PH) because these queens are so inspiring in their own ways.
Pia continues to use her voice to help others just like she promised on the stage before she was crowned MU2015, especially for the causes near and dear to her heart. I'm glad that she is one of the Miss Universe winners.

I remember crying when she won in 2015. I remember watching the pageant and she just had this fire in her eyes. Passion, power, confidence, something deep! And watching this now…. It made me respect her beyond more. Bow down to the queen.
Pia you made me cry and think about myself. I've been struggling with my own mental health and issues for a long time now, true that all the things you have not settled in or found solutions when you are young will come back to you in adult life. I'm here alone in Toronto, I thought coming here will make my life better but things happens unexpectedly and I am not ready for it.
Pls give it time🙏🏼 and just see all things with purpose and beauty. It’s ok to be lonely but don’t make it your company see the joy in Gods creations, particularly His creation of you, don’t forget to give back and make others less lonely.
Hi Earl. Here in Toronto too and living by myself for many years now. It can be very challenging especially when loneliness or depression hits you.
There’s joy and peace when we not only look at our capabilities but the ability of the Lord Jesus to love us in a very personal way… turn to Jesus, he is waiting for you… i found my peace in Him.

I started going to therapy in the states and I'm so thankful my therapist is a pinay (who can understand my problems and upbringing from a cultural perspective). it is mind blowing that there are only 800 in the Philippines, i am hoping there will be more. thank yu for sharing your experiences and advocating for mental health!
Great you are going to therapy. Takes courage. I’m not surprised either the small number of therapists In PI. Thou I believe it will grow. Going to therapy and discussing mental health issues may still be a cultural stigma in many parts of Asia, it’s so needed. I’m in graduate school pursuing to be a therapist with emphasis in mental health disorders and specializing in anxiety, depression and trauma. The first step is recognizing there is a problem and getting help. Important to realize that no one is perfect on earth. I wish you the best In your healing journey.
