      Exactly. They want to please us. We have to give them the information. If we're bad communicators, they won't ever do what we tell them to because the understanding isn't there. They are doing the best with the information we give them.

    This is perfect timing for me - I was telling my vet about my 5 month old Aussie’s resource guarding with the other dogs and some growling at me. She said although he is well behaved I need to be a stronger leader and simply not allow him to get away with this. We do keep a long line and a martingale on him to intercept any unwanted behaviour. My vet showed me a few things which were much firmer than what carol is doing. My vet had me practice few a exercises with him and there was an amazing transformation in his attitude towards
    me. He also has to earn everything and for now he has to be invited onto to the couch and bed - he sleeps on the floor at night. He seems more content and happy. It is a process but there is lots of hope now that he learning he is not the king of the castle😊😊

      Mine is only 12 weeks. Chipug mix. She bites me, but not bad.. And not dad at ALL!! She absolutely loves everyone else. Just likes me as her chew toy.. As much as I tell her No, or put her down. She just comes right back.. Time to talk to the vet..

    I’m currently in the Life Skill program with 10m old lab puppy Finn. It’s very helpful to see the exercises in a real training situation. It helps me understand what to expect in a real life situation. It also helps seeing owners learning the process of training. I have wondered if McCann could record a real class and make it available to online students so we can see a little more how a dog not knowing the exercises might respond at first and how we should react to various situations when first teaching an exercise.
    This video is very helpful!

    Jerking a dog’s head like that while on a gentle leader can cause serious neck and spinal damage. While the puppy was pulling after the treat on the floor the “trainer” was jerking her head to the side, that’s not safe at all. Use a martingale or a prong to give a small correction and say “leave it”. Reward when the dog leaves it and looks at you.

      It's a loaded question... you'll get people's opinions rather than definitive answers. For me and I put emphasis on "FOR ME" , I'm more inclined to use a flat collar or a slip lead to avoid any neck damage . Obviously on micro dogs that possibility still exists with anything on the neck or head

    • @Crocodileofdoom

    • @annylaurie422
      @annylaurie422 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You cant always train a dog with positive only and treats - this dog has gotten away with too much for too long she needs to know who the leader is. A few pops could be the difference between a dog living or being put down for aggression. My vet said she is so tired of having aggression consults or putting dogs down because they thought they only needed rainbows and butterflies to train their dogs. Just like kids, dogs need a leader and to know right from wrong. I really appreciate this realistic training.

    i think the trainer is being too nice; what i do whenever the dog starts to try to pass me is I say ahh... and stick my foot out and nudge her back with my foot. After 3 or 4 times she realizes she cannot push past me and will be watching me closely to make sure my leg does not come out in front of her. i also do this against a wall so she only can go forward or backward.
