    We got a chord synth model now, but this video is still a brilliant sound design ressource two years on. Thank you, the fm section and the bit about the macro osc triple models are brilliant.

    The tables to pick the inversions was totally great. The whole time I was wondering how to get the chords to scales and wasn’t expecting such a flexible system.

    Mind blown. I'm just getting into the M8 headless, since there are no units available right now, and this video expanded the musical range so much. Great job, thank you.

    I was just writing chords using three tracks earlier today (and wondering if this was really the best way) and then this video floated into my TH-cam recommendations. So helpful and perfect timing. Thanks! 😄

    Perfect overview of chord stuff in M8!
    My highlights:
    - really cute chords crash course at the beginning
    - strumming trick with groove is nice
    - fm chord inversion trick goes right into my toolbox
    - scales for fm chords - didn't know it was that well thought out
    Do you know if Tim plans to add key tracking to the filter resonance? That would enable even more duophonic chord goodness..

    • @impbox
      @impbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! There was some discussion about adding key tracking, but no definite plans afaik. You can sequence resonance and cutoff per step though, so you could do it manually.

    • @mbbmbbmm
      @mbbmbbmm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@impbox Yeah, that would be a feasible workaround if I'm going for that specific sound. Thank you!

    I’m halfway through the video and am loving the content. One question though, when using the mod slots on the fm synth to create a chord with the PIT command (24:17), is there any particular reason you pair mod slots 2,3,4 with C,B,A respectively? That seems backwards to what I would initially do. Why not start the other way around with B,C,D instead? P.s. I understand very little about fm synthesis so forgive me if the question is basic.

    • @impbox
      @impbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, it's not particularly important, but generally with FM synthesis the Rightmost operator (D) is the one that is closest to the output, so I usually start with that one. And enable B, C, D only when needed.

    Very cool! Is it possible to hook up a midi keyboard through usb and have the notes recorded in from the keyboard? If only monophonic because of the m8 track specs(?) it would already be handy imo for live input instead of programming in the note events using the tracker. EDIT; ah I see it is possible :) watching at the 41 min part right now.

    • @impbox
      @impbox  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can record and enter notes monophonically via midi, but not across multiple tracks

  • @ywenp
    @ywenp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't remember but does the M8 have a way to play a sample instrument as a chord? (eg. play a "root" instance of the sample, another instance pitched 4 semi up and another 7 semi up on a single track, either at the same time or successively by keeping the previous instances ringing like with the Plucked synth)
    Or is it really just one instance of a sample per track that can be played at the same time?

    • @impbox
      @impbox  ปีที่แล้ว

      each track can only play one note, plucked is a bit special, you can't do that kind of thing with the samples unless you use multiple tracks or render down to a chord sample.

    Is there a way to control the M8 with a MIDI keyboard?

    • @impbox
      @impbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can use MIDI input to play M8 synths live, you can also record note input via a midi keyboard.

  • @commodoor6549

    Is it possible to sustain a chord that begin in one phrase to another without having to trigger the chord again?

    • @impbox
      @impbox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! just add empty phrases after it to let it continue. If the decay is too short you can add hold or use a table to do a slower decay or more complex envelope.

  • @LostStylus
    @LostStylus 2 ปีที่แล้ว
