Hi Andy Well done, looked a good hike. Definitely worth the climb up for those views. Loved the photos at the end Have a great weekend Morgs Jo and Boo 🐕 ❤
Thanks for watching, folks. It was a great climb, but my knees reminded me for days that I'm not 25 anymore. It was all good fun, and I'm glad I did it. Have a great weekend 👍 .
Well done. I used to admire the view of the Topping when I went to a biker rally at Nunthorpe Riding Centre and always wondered what it would be like at the top. Thank you for doing that climb for me! Keith
There you go, Keith, now you know. I could have picked a clearer day for you, though 😀 Have a great weekend, I hope you're getting out with the camera.
You did brilliantly Andy. I'm not sure I'd have made it I am very unfit. Well done! And what a lovely view from the top. Bet you felt it the following couple of days! Take care 🧸 🐻
Thanks for watching Ellie and Martyn. I won't lie, it was hard work going up there and even more tricky going down, mainly because it was so muddy ( we came down the direct route.) My knees were complaining for days afterwards. I am pleased to have done it, the area is very beautiful and I have some ideas for photographs for the next time I visit.
Great video Andrew! The first portion of that hike looked a lot like a West Virginia trail, but as you got towards the top, it reminded me of when we hiked Mam Tor. Some beautiful trees on the bottom portion and stunning English views at the top. Too bad there wasn't a cafe at the top 😂 You did well, far better than I'd do! I need to get back out there, I've kind of slacked off over the holidays. Loved the video! Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Paul. I was certainly feeling it by the time we got to the top. It's a great walk, and I think I'll go back to get some good images with the camera next time. Have a great weekend.
Hello from your friends in Naples, Florida. That was a steep climb, for sure. The views are awesome from way up there. Thank you for sharing with us, have a great weekend 👍💯
Brilliant Andy. Hats off to you mate. Not easy to vlog at the same time as staying upright. Hope the way down wasn’t to treacherous. Great photos too. Have a good weekend. Catch you at the reservoir. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️
Cheers Watto. Going down was worse as we went the direct route. My knees didn't forgive me for days. Looking forward to the reservoir meet - at least that is pretty flat :)
Hi Andy, lovely to see the little Robin. Nice hike through the woods. It looked a bit slippy in places. Well done on not ending up on your backside - or falling over the edge! 👍That was quite a climb. Congrats on getting to the top and seeing those lovely views ❤
Thanks for watching ladies. The way down was worse (we took a different route), muddier, and more people, we say several go over, and I nearly went down twice. As you said, great views, though. Have a great weekend.
No problem at all, I am fat, a bit fit (ish) and 70 next year, so if I can do it, you will run it up :o). Up the nose is the best way to test your fitness but the walk through the woods is always nice at any time of the year but it's stunning when the bluebells are out. Looking at that muddy path I may be wearing my wellington boots when we go to the reservoir. The times I have gone there with Mrs Metalman and we have walked to Captain Cooks Monument, we turned left at the woods and you get a lot gentler way up and around Roseberry Topping with a small up around the back. To be honest, fair play to you for not only giving it a go but getting to the summit too, not the biggest but not as easy as a lot of people think, so well done! Despite the gloomy weather you got some great shots at the end, cheers Alan
Thanks for watching Alan. As a 1st timer and watching a few videos I knew the direct route was going to be hard work and not particularly pretty. With my photographer's hat on I wanted to check out the shooting box location so that was part of the reason for going through the woods but seeing all the wildlife was a bonus too. I think I definitely need some poles before I tackle something like this again, it was murder on my knees coming down.
Hi Andy, loved the little Robin , lovely hike up through the woods. Wow it’s a steep climb. I don’t think would have made it. Wow such beautiful views from the very top. Well done x Julie and Tony x
Thanks for watching Julie and Tony. It was a hard slog up. That bench was very welcome for the 5 minutes we got to rest. There are easier routes, apparently, but even this route was easier than the steps.
This reminded me of my climb up to Machu Picchu...I thought I was going to pass out! My mantra became, "One foot in front of the other...one foot in front of the other..." lol Quite an amazing feeling of accomplishment once done for sure! Awesome!
Hi Andy, looked a tad muddy on the way but thankfully was a bit drier the closer to the summit you got. Oh and thankfully you didn't slip over the edge. It looked good fun and the views from the top whilst not super clear weren't too bad. I need to get out soon myself. Nice one 👍Paul
Thanks Paul, it was pretty bad in the woods but yeah further up it had drained (and ran into the woods 🤣) - it was very muddy on the quick route (which we came down on). Cheers for watching.
Think we will do the route you did! Then come down the stairs. Steve just said to me if you can do Old man storr on Skye you can do anything! Thanks for sharing 👍
We came down the stairs. It was very hard on the knees and very busy and very muddy. If you can do it on a weekday, I imagine it would be quieter. We went on a Saturday. Thanks for watching Anba and Steve.
Hey Andy 😊 it’s not the easiest walk up to Roseberry, it does get steep in places. You done great though 😁 I always make use of the bench on the way up too. Nice photos taken too 😊
Thanks, Yasmin. From a distance, it doesn't look too bad. It's not that high, but as you say, it does get steep in parts. Nick's route from Great Ayton sounds much easier. That said, it was nice to walk through the woodland as see the wildlife. The photos were OK as I only had my phone to use. My camera was with me but I forgot my memory card 🙃 😅 . Thanks for watching.
Totally interesting & absorbing video Andy & very well done m8, it looked far from easy but must of been helped by such marvellous scenery, its something I need to really get into when I've had my knee replacement but probably starting on something less strenuous, hence the flat east coast landscape I have chosen for my August jollyberries, on the photos at the end of the video one that struck my eye was the rather strange looking tree, a brilliant image for sure, looking 4ward to your next video already Andy 👍😁
Thanks, Andy. It was definitely a strenuous hike. A seasoned hiker I follow, who has tacked many fells and mountains, rates it as a tough one. Yes, the tree is an unusual shape. I plan to return some time and bring along a camera for some landscape images.
Cheers for watching LB. As I found it a hard slog has given me a bit of a push to get back in the gym and try and get fitter. We'll see how well I get on.
Cheers, Dave. These were taken on my phone. I managed to leave the memory card for the camera at home. I plan to go back again this year. There are loads of great shots to be had of this subject. It's a favourite with photographers for sure. Thanks for watching. 👍
With a title like that I had to click on it. The easy route still looked a little steep. Nice views going up after the wooded area. Congratulations on making it to the top. 👍
Thanks for watching Craig. After a couple of weeks filling my face with Turkey and chocolates, I was in no condition to climb it. It was a good walk, though, and it has spurred me on to get back in the gym.
Well done for reaching the summit. Hell of a climb! We did it in a heatwave a few years back. Like you, I’m ok on the flat but struggle on the inclines. Glad TH-cam suggested your channel this morning. 😀 We love nature walks. As most of my channel is walks in Suffolk, hills are rarely a problem! But we love going up to the Lake District, Yorkshire, Northumberland, so we do get our fix of hills occasionally. Love your channel. You have a new subscriber! ☑️ 🙂👍
Thanks for watching and subscribing, I'll be checking out your channel too. To be polite, I'll say I'm not built for hills 😀a flat walk is much easier for me. We do an awful lot of walking on holiday but less in the UK. I'm hoping to change that along with my passion for photography and vlogging.
Great video Andy. First time we did it I was 20 stone and very unfit. Did it by the direct route, can remember sitting in the car park looking at it psyching me out for well over an hour. Stopped several times. Ive now climbed it hundreds of time. Mostly from Great Ayton (free parking) and it’s a very gradual 2 mile ascent to the summit, no steep bits that way. Lovely shots! ♥️
Wow, I can't ever imagine you being 20 stone, Nick. Free parking sounds great - it costs a fair bit in the car park. I must admit I did like this route because of the wildlife and I wanted to take some images with the shooting box and the topping behind it. The mud I could do without - it was worse on the way down as we took the direct route. Cheers for watching.
@@OutandaboutwithAndythe final part of the approach from Great Ayton passes the shooting box, its a gentle route that goes up Cliff Ridge Wood to come out on top of the steep Newton Wood you ascended through. We park at ///leathers.slim.riots but all parking in Great Ayton is free. They have a great chippy and a Co-op for provisions too!
Good on ya buddy for that i did like the QR code on screen never seen that before and brilliant views up there interseting vlog for me never seen this place before class enjoy buddy 👍
With more people starting to watch content on TV I thought I'd add a qr code to give them the opportunity to subscribe. I can't believe you've never heard of Roseberry Topping, it's well worth the climb for the views but it is a bit of a slog for a fat lad like me. Cheers for watching, will be checking out your channel too.
We did bring a flask but elected to leave it in the car for when we returned. Cakes, sadly I've eaten too many of those already! Thanks for watching Jason.

Great job Andy! Loved watching from below! Stunning views and beautiful hike!
Thanks for watching Dave and Kathy. You deserve some dessert now after the climb 🥧😃

raspberry topping may be easier
Definitely, although in nearby Redcar, all the ice cream comes with a lemon top!
Don't know Andy. But I'm fat, unfit and over 70! Do love a berry topping though! 🤣🤣Here and lurking. See you soon!
Sadly there is no café serving dessert at the top of this hill!
