- In this video, we are going to discuss different tips that go into making crochet pieces that you will actually wear. A lot besides following a pattern tutorial, and actually making the piece, goes into crocheting high-quality pieces. These are some things I learned from making my own clothes.

It's so wonderful to see young people crocheting and proudly wearing their creations! I learned to knit and crochet in my childhood. When I was a teenager, I knitted and crocheted my own clothes. Growing up in post-Soviet Ukraine, it was cheaper to buy yarn and make a sweater or top than to buy a finished garment. As a teenager, I mostly knitted because my knitted garments could pass for "store bought" ones, but crocheted ones were so obviously "hand-made". I got bullied and made fun of for my crocheted pieces of clothes. Now, many years later, I absolutely love crocheting and I am proud of the garments I make. But they are definitely very expansive! I choose natural fibers such as cotton, silk, wool, etc and those yarns are not cheap.
oh so sorry you got bullied for wearing your pieces I bet they were amazing!
that is a beautiful story, i’m sorry you had to go through that, people are so mean, but they were wrong i’m sure your crochet pieces were beautiful! my nana taught me how to crochet when I was 10 and I haven’t put down the hook since
Don’t you have a channel too Olga? Your name is so familiar. If it’s you, I follow your channel too. 😆
Olga! I love your patterns so much! Currently I have your leaf shawl in my wips, hoping it’ll be finished this summer!
@@Yarnover_PullThrough Yes, thank you so much!
Love how you dont need to look at what you are doing......id have a mess!!..
I wear what i make...and my belly (52 now) is the biggest part...we have limited yarn available in Australia, i now buy from o/s...and the price inc shipping is comparable but the quality so much better
No offense but isn’t Australia/New Zealand full of beautiful fluffy sheep ripe for a sheering? How do you not have the best yarn selection there is?
Such a calming video watching you crochet without looking and also giving out great info. Thank you.
I’m making a swearshirt right now for my boyfriend using finger weight yarn cause I wanted it to be lightweight but this got me ready to take it apart and use weight 4 🤣
oh my goodness that must’ve taken forever😭😂
These are really helpful tips. Especially the guidance on hooks and type 4 yarn. Some of the tips seem focused on acrylic, which is understandable, as it’s the most common kind. However, some tips on choosing your yarn type (cotton, bamboo, wool, etc.) based on the seasons or the clothing type would be great!
thank you for letting me know, i’ll have to add that!😊😊😊
It is wonderful to see young people creating with knitting and crocheting these talents will be needed in the future!
thank you!!!😊😊😊
Holy cow!! I have crocheted for a long time, but still have to look at what I am doing there! How do you do that!! Great tips!!
thank you! i use my fingers as my eyes so I can feel the stitches as i crochet
You have wonderful tips. I’m making my first cardigan.
When I steam and block, I add fabric softener to the water to help soften the fabric.
that’s a great tip, i’ll have to use that next time😊
A tip for blocking, you don't need a whole blocking board with pegs, cardboard and push pins work fine.
that’s so smart!!! thank u for sharing 😊
Love how calming your voice is and these are great tips! Thank you
thank you😊😊😊
thank you so much, this is so helpful. i'm a very impatient person so i often take shortcuts with stitching/weaving in ends, so i've never really gotten into crocheting my own clothing. i'm going to give it another try now :)
you got this! sometimes you can even try to crochet right over them if possible through out the project, but nonetheless it’s impossible to avoid😭 you’ll get used it after a while😊
Just a little tip on not wanting to sew the ends after finishing a piece. If its for a sweater or top or so, with enough confidence you can definitely leave the ends out and just pretend that its part of the piece, like idk its a designer piece, it’s supposed to be this way, another way to make it look more like it is supposed to be that way is to make it symmetrical, add here or there an extra strand just to make it symmetrical and it’ll look like it really was supposed to be that way, but really the biggest part of being able to pull it off with the strands out (or not) is confidence. If you’re confident enough to just walk around in the piece you made and tell everyone around you with your body language that it looks exactly the way you wanted it, it’s way easier to actually pull it off and people will just take that as this is indeed the way it needs to be, it all just comes down to your confidence basically. Hope this can help someone
Hey, I just wanted to tell you, that you have a really pleasant voice, very soothing and relaxing 🥰
thank you so much😁😊
Thank you so much. Very helpful tips. ❤
I made my granddaughter a dress with the linked double crochet. It's not a stretchy stitch but the bonus to it is it's not very see through. Highly recommend, turned out great.
that is awesome, i always wanted to make a dress, will definitely have to try! 😊

I’m new to crochet so this is so useful. Thanks! It would be great if you could do a video showing different fabrics and how they look on a top or dress (etc) and/or which fabrics are best for example summer or winter and examples of how they look after when the project is done! I’m looking for a video like this and I can’t find it anywhere!

this was really informative thank you! i started crocheting a little over 2 years ago but just started experimenting with clothing. and its so much harder than i thought itd be. 😫

5:57 that made me smile 🥰
hahaha thank you😊😂
I would love to know what you used to edit this video ! So well done 🤍
thank you! i use capcut😊
Wow
❤️❤️❤️
I find as I crochet my yarn gets a bit fuzzy, how would you fix this?
that can happen😕 if it’s too unbearable i’ve known people to use a lighter to get over the fuzzies here’s a tik tok doing it: www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRKbBHLM/
but please don’t burn ur house down😊😅
my problem is that my projects just gets wider and wider idk if it's because I use acrylic yarn or cause i am bad at crochetting
that means you're creating extra stitches as you crochet. i have the same issue and counting my stitches every 5 rows really helps me!
Hi darling! The comment above might be right. As a beginner I had a similar problem of my rows getting longer as I added them. A helpful tip for me was adding a stitch marker into my chain 1 (or 2 or 3 depending on what stitch you are using) then when I turned my work and made my way back to the end I knew where to insert my hook to finish the row and start the next. I hope that helps. I know it can be discouraging to pull out rows of work
@@friendswithfae hi cutie thank you for the tip I will do that ❤️
@@minjjis hi! Yeah I will keep that in mind thank you for your comment❤️
@@escaalopette1129it may also be your tension! if you're getting looser tension then the stitches will get bigger therefore taper out, so try keep an eye on that too
