Hey Splatter! In case you return to the game, right-clicking allows you to attack from a range if you've got a ranged weapon equipped. Also, shift-clicking yourself allows you to rest until you are fully rested. Last, and perhaps more conveniently, the E button allows your character to auto-explore as long as there are no visible enemies on the screen! Hope you indeed had a good time with this game, I have been playing it for tha last month and a half and I can't get enough! Thank you for covering it so more people can learn about it!
Those shortcuts are left to the map. You can also directly move to the next stairs up or down with the < and > buttons (or keys as shortcut). Also dexterity gives you speed points ( blue bar on the top right) that allows you to move quickly without enemies taking a turn using the shift key while moving. The game has definitely more depth than seems apparent ;)
I love the balance struck between the simplicity and clarity of the art style and the depth of the gameplay. A solid and satisfying roguelike no doubt.
Sorry if unrelated, I'm developing a game myself in Unity, I could not imagine how hard it is to finish even the most primitive game with simplistic graphics. I've gained a new appreciation for any man who finished his game. It is truly a small miracle.
One particularly nice thing about Dex as an attribute in this game is that each additional point into it gets you 1 SP or Speed Point. What Speed Points do is give you a free movement action per spent Speed Point. If you have enough, you can literally zoom across the room. Even with just a few you can position yourself just so to get out of a tricky situation or line up enemies for a devastating attack. Rogue Fable 3 is a really REALLY cool roguelike.
Yep, Dexterity is actually awesome in Rogue Fable III, literally giving you super speed or Max Pain style bullet time for a step for every SP Speed point you spend. It has saved my monster’s 🍑 many times, and those SP come back so fast too! Just have to remember that you have that little blue bar up there, and hold shift and move to use it. It is often a literal life saver.
Reminds me of flight builds in Cogmind, you can move 4x before enemy robots can even react. It's also why you usually miss normal shots against flying bots.
I haven't seen the whole video yet but you can attack from afar as a wizard without casting lightning. All wizards classes are equipped with a wand that can launch bolts of fire, ice, lightning, or poison.
Yea, I don't think he ever used his wand. I don't think he realizes you can right click on the enemies to use the wand instead of punching enemies at close range. I think T or F whatever the ranged hotkey works, too.
Watching you drives me so crazy sometimes. All those worms that nearly killed you come out, and you go around the terrain that makes them receive an instant crit, but then you kinda remember it when the goblins come.
Thank You Splat for shining your light on this awesome Indie Traditional RogueLike! Rogue Fable III is just packed full of RPG procedural generation and meaningful character class options. I’m a guy who likes options, so when I saw Rogue Fable III has 10 classes, it drew my eye, but what really got me was the ability to play a Monster, and to play a Monster with Class! 🎩 You can be a troll that heals super fast, but get super hungry! Or a vampire, that only heals on blood! Or a mummy, who eats nothing, but can’t use potions, because they have no metabolism! You can also be a human, but why do that?! Humans are lame! But remember, you are a Monster with Class, as in Class lvls! In Rogue Fable 3, you can be the Warrior Fairy, Gnome Barbarian, or Ogre Magi of your dreams! YES! ✊ I should mention: that I too have partook of the bounty of Rogue Fable III, publicly, as I found my enjoyment of it simply Too Big to keep to myself! Rogue Fable III may look small, but it’s packing a Big and Satisfying RogueLike Experience! 🍲😋 Anyway, if you want to see some more of the Bright and Expressive Pixel Art that Splat showcased so excellently above, that so clearly differentiates Rogue Fable III from the typical grimdark darkness of the typical dungeon delver, then give me a glance, and see a bright and welcoming indie experience that may just open up a whole new RogueLike world to you. Give a Glance, and see?
Excellent modern twist on the old school roguelike formula. I love the few suggestions you peppered into the review, and I really hope the dev takes note of them.

But remember, you are a Monster with Class, as in Class lvls! In Rogue Fable 3, you can be the Warrior Fairy, Gnome Barbarian, or Ogre Magi of your dreams! YES! ✊ Beyond all the depth and character customization offered by the above, you also have the awesome Environmental Effects, which really do massively change how you approach the combat, causing you watch where you step, as the water or vines could render you unstable, and easily crit, while wading in water makes you vulnerable to shocking damage. I didn’t even mention the exploding mushrooms, bear traps, freezing cold, and more! YES! The Dungeon Environment is the key opponent you face, with the monsters only 1 of the many threats coming for your adventurer booty. Prepare thyself bold one! Final thing: Rogue Fable III is currently on sale, $8 for this awesome indie 💎 til 03/03/22, and it is often updated by its dedicated indie dev. So, if you value RogueLike RPG gameplay, you’ll likely like it. I do, and even record myself playing and liking it! Give me a glance if you’ll still not convinced, or maybe even if you are. 👍
@@MrDelightfulRPG I also like the dangerous rare/legendary monster versions and how you have to dodge around some ranged attacks. Currently neither have time or money for this but I'll wishlist it for when I do. 6.55€ oh what the heck, just bought it. If only to show my appreciation for the dev going a few extra miles.
Have you even played Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup? Its one of the few big modern(ish) traditional roguelikes. What makes it so good is that it has a lot of QoL features that sort of mitigates the usual traditional roguelikes jank and its still being updated with new content all the time.
@@alukata9763 Tangledeep is amazing. Whats the other one? I haven't even heard of that! I'm not the guy you were asking, but I demand answers anyway!! (I'm basically addicted to traditional roguelikes and I need my fix man, I'm jonesin' real bad over here)
Last Halloween my 2 year old daughter saw a mummy for the first time and asked me, "Daddy why is that mommy all wrapped-up?" >< For real though I've never seen mummy as a playable race in any video game. If that's not indication enough, there seems to be some cool ideas in this game and particularly interesting mechanics. It's a fun take on rogue. Combat sorta plays out like a more forgivable Rift Wizard. I'm excited to try it out.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup that is....This game is an obvious re-imagining of DCSS - perhaps somewhat more pleasing graphically. Hard to say from a cursory watch whether or not it is completely pastiche. DCSS has many more options in terms of class/race.
@@daemonmarchant6179 The game used to be an imitation of DCSS, even going as far as using the same sprites. It really has changed up quite a lot since then though.
What do you mean you're a fan of rogue-likes? Why I've never seen one on your channel ever. And I'm certainly not being facetious or sarcastic. Really! I didn't get into nethack the first time around either. Once they came out with a graphic version instead of full text only I started enjoying it.
I have not played this build yet but I think I can see a couple of problems you made that can easily be fixed. 1. You have 2 weapon slots one for melee and one for ranged and I assume there are different mouse buttons for each, if it has a tutorial it should tell you and if no tutorial I suggest you recommend one. 2. Patience. I understand that you have a lot of stuff to do what with finding worthwhile games, recording gameplay, editing, uploading ad infinitim. edit: I got a little preachy and verbose so cut out
Talent pools seem kinda shallow. Unless there's more customization later on, I feel like there isn't a whole lot of character depth here. Still, seems interesting. Wishlisted, I'll keep an eye on it.
I have a weird thing about playing things out of order. Like, when I read books, I never skip and I always read the series on order. So is it a big deal if I start this game from III? Am I actually missing anything by skipping I and II. Not being able to skip the old games is like 40% of why I have a GOG account, lol.
I love roguelikes, but this one just doesn't seem like it'd do it for me. Not a bug fan of the menu sticking up on the right, plus your sprite never changes with equipment. Still enjoyed the video, though.
@@ZombieHunter1776 So I like Dead Cells, Curse of the Dead Gods is really good, Hades. I'm really just a fan of about any roguelike that allows you to see at least some of your equipment, with some exceptions. Like this one looks really good with the attacks and stuff.
