    I have three. A Bravo full rifle in 6.5 Needmoor, A 6.5 PRC barreled action in a MDT field stock, and solus action with a Shilen 27 in MTU in 25 PRC in an Oryx chassis. Great bang for the buck, especially if you catch their sales. Thx for the content, Eric. Also have a EC tuner and a tuner brake I switch around them along with my 25 creedmoor build.

    I bought one chambered in 6mm Creedmoor last year and with factory ammo, it was right at 1MOA so I ordered an EC Tuner brake and tuned it to .4 MOA with the same ammo. Very easy to shoot all day. I hope you continue to enjoy yours as well.

    Tare the rifle down completely. Check if both lugs are locking up evenly, check out the machining/ threads. Check out the rifling with bore scope. Go over the bolt. If the weapon is gtg. Prove it. You asked for my opinion at the end of the vid. I understood the assignment. Oh ya, also smashed the " like button". Nice work Cortina.

    I have the 6CM in the chassis with TT Diamond and one of your Tuners on it. It shot a 600 with 32 x's at 600 yards. With Berger 105 hybrid factory rounds. I'm very impressed with the accuracy from a 2500 dollar rifle. This was at a club match. Coalinga Rifle Club.

      Nice! What were the winds like? I've wondered if there would be much of a disadvantage with 6mm vs 7mm at that range with crappy wind conditions.

  • @TheMrMused

    The chassis reminds me very much of the Bergara HMR. What you've got planned for the SOLUS is pretty much what I've done to my Bergara HRM in 6.5CM. 5.-25 optic, tuner/brake, adjusted trigger pull (may drop in a better trigger at some point), added a short rail for Atlas bipod, and just let the rifle eat.
    I'll be following this one closely. The SOLUS seems to be about $500 more than the HMR (avg. market price, more or less - not MSRP) .. could be worth the upgrade!

    I bought a barreled action, put a TriggerTech special on it and have multiple stocks and chassis’ for the Rem 700 footprint. MPA Hybrid, a KRG, a Mesa Altitude carbon and an HS Precision.
    The feature set is amazing. 700 foot print makes it a very modular action. Stocks, triggers and bases all Rem 700. Interchangeable bolt heads for standard and magnum cartridges, dual plunger ejection and two options for barrel threads. You can use shouldered Bighorn Origin barrels OR Savage barrel nut barrels. This makes many prefit barrels viable options available aftermarket.
    One piece action with integral rail and recoil lug along with a three head 60 degree bolt throw and AI / AW mag well makes this a very modular setup. If they add 223 and ARC bolt heads it’s a one action system.
    As I said I have multiple stocks for it along with barrels. I can do the MPA chassis and my Shilen 6BR and be shooting LR. I can put it in the 26 oz Mesa carbon stock and swap the barrel to the Proof 26” carbon 243 and go deer hunting. I can swap the bolt head to the magnum and screw on the Proof 7 SAUM and go elk hunting.
    This is a one stop shopping action that can do ALMOST anything. Like I said earlier, just add bolt head sizes and you have a screaming setup
    And all that for no more than $900 and during sales I’ve seen it at $750.

    I recently put together a rifle using a Solus action chambered in 6 Creedmoor. Using Berger 109 factory ammunition I went 12 for 12 on steel targets of various sizes ranging from 383 to almost 600 yards. Very impressive for an out of the box action.
    Also impressive to see the Solus performing so well with the 130/6.5 C-M at 500 yards. I have a growing respect for the 130 Berger Hybrid's. They perform excellently in every rifle I've shot them through
    👍

    I know you will get lots of suggestions - mine is please try "Tubbs Final Finish" kit.
    Once you get a good baseline established, I'd like to see you try the "Tubbs Final Finish" barrel lapping product. We have recently tried it on several rifles, and in all cases precision was improved noticeably, but especially for the one that started out the worst (one that was a solid 1.5 MOA gun, and two others that were solid 1.0 MOA guns - all tested with multiple 10 round groups). I'd like to see the results at the hands of a "real" shooter. It is a little work (lots of cleaning during the process), and the kit costs about $40, but I think it's worth it and would be very interesting to see your results.

    Leave it alone, adjust the trigger, do some ammo testing with tuner and without tuner. How many rounds from new without cleaning does it take to see degradation in 1 moa accuracy. The cleaning process to get it back to original accuracy. How many rounds from cleaning does the barrel need to settle in. New velocity vs 200rd in velocity.

    First, congratulations on the rain we are still dry here in the Schattel area it just seems to be all around us. Midway had a pretty good deal on those Solus rifles or at least their prices were reduced. How is the .257 Roberts project coming? I pulled mine out this past week and shot some 20-year-old handloads it still has the stuff shot some 115 grain Nosler Fail Safe and 100 grain Sierra Boat Tail Spire Points all under an inch at 100. Same rig I used to hunt with just a 3x9 Zeiss on top of a VZ 24 action 1-10 24" barrel. About the same recoil as a .223.

    Ill just say im super knowledgeable about rifles but the last 3 rifles ive bought ive ended up bedding the actions and fully bedding the barrels. I know free floated barrels are the only way to go and i tried all three free floated then bedded them and they all shot better. Im just a hunter and play around paper puncher that shots out to say 800 yds. First two were just hunting rifles that were shooting 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 moa groups with quality factory ammo that after bedding barrels pretty much were 5/8 to 1 moa with factory. Last gun was a CZ 600 alpha i bought for $430 that after bedding everything pretyy consistently shooting 3s and 4s with handloads now

    $1360 for the solus action
    $1620 for the Cadex CDX-R7
    $1299 Pristine action
    Is it really better than a pristine action?

    • @skyofstorms
      @skyofstorms หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. Pristine is smoother and its at a pricepoint where its competing with full custom actions. In the US the solus normally goes for around $950 whereas the pristine is $1300 still so if you can get a pristine cheaper than a solus that's likely a better bet.

      @ErikCortina man you are rolling them cats slow,lol. All the load data I've got on hand starts them puppies at 2600, I'm assuming slow is consistent. I've found slowing down my .30 Cals have helped bring groups together, they just behave better it seems.

    Brakes on hunting rifles suck. I made that mistake before never again. Just my .02 shoots great!

    I just did a seating depth test with my 308. Is it normal to see changes in velocity across different depths?. I seen as much as 20fps between some.

      Yes. You are changing the case capacity when you seat bullet in or out.

    Every new hunter, who thinks they can shoot big game at 500+, should see this video. 5” is barely inside the kill zone and this is a championship shooter.

    • @flynnryder7798
      @flynnryder7798 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Kill zone is way bigger than 5 inches on large game. Medium game, I agree.

      @user-nf2th3bn5t หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@flynnryder7798 Technically, yes. But I don’t shoot at anything beyond where I can stay within 6. Grew up in WY and killed my first elk at 14 w/30.06 with barrel mounted open sights at 150. My dad taught me that if I had to shoot beyond 200, I didn’t know how to hunt.

    • @flynnryder7798
      @flynnryder7798 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-nf2th3bn5tI’m the same. Furthest kill is 150 yards. Most around 50. Grew up hunting Michigan and now hunt Arkansas. Getting close is the fun part, to me. Was just pointing out that moose, elk, etc. have a pretty large kill zone. Their lungs are huge.

    • @robobiss444
      @robobiss444 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you ever taken apart even a deer to see how large the lungs are?
      I’m not knocking your point about people shooting stuff at 500+, but the vitals on even a whitetail are easily a 10” circle. Probably even larger, I’m being conservative.
      Easily double that size on a moose or elk, if not even larger. Obviously the lungs aren’t a perfect circle, but it’s easily a 2MOA target at 500 on a deer. 4 (at least) for big game.

      @user-nf2th3bn5t หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robobiss444 I’m 71. Before leaving WY after commissioning in the Army, I killed 4 mule deer, 3 elk, and 2 antelope. I’ve also butchered plenty of steers on my dad’s ranch. I stand by my comment, unless you are a world class shooter, long range hunting is unethical.
