    I really enjoyed this. Humorous and lighthearted but should silence all the people that left ridiculous comments on the first Malinois video about how "untrained" Envy is. She is beautifully trained! love her smile.

    I love the way malinois are good at communicating (1:35) when it looked at you to mean "I know you said 'leave it', but I want to play with that"

    I love those 2 videos. I’ve watched them before getting my Malinois and now after living with her for 7 month rewatched and was like “that’s so etna hahahaha” all the time. You don’t know what you get yourself into until they’re here. But as you said in video 1. They’re sportscars and one needs to be prepared !

    Holy smokes I think that my rescue dog is 90% Malinois that looks JUST like a American Bulldog! I don't know German so he is trained in English...which is fitting given the "American" in American Bulldog. We can't do the walking between the legs either because he is roughly the size of a small horse but EVERYTHING else is dead on (mouthy, taking over the other dogs, following me everywhere etc). Honestly great videos! I had never heard of a Malinois which is why I watched the first video you did (talking about them being part jungle cat). You have a great sense of humor and obviously love your pets! Thanks for sharing!!

    i have a year old mal, he is very calm and placid at home, sleeps everywhere. He never acts out or misbehaves. I see alot of comments about how these dogs are not a pet, this is bullshit. My mal is a house pet, gets regular walks and is very obedient, i do agree however that they are not a dog to have as a cuddly buddy that will sleep all day while you are working or cooking etc. He needs his walks and obedience and "job". bit generally, dedicating two hours to a walk every day, and obedience training they turn out pretty well. however, if you give them an inch they will take a mile, so you must be assertive.

    • @chillinator
      @chillinator 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds like you got one on the "calmer" end of the spectrum. I've rehabbed some Malis that were basically a German Shepherd+Alligator+Methamphetamine that I would NOT have wanted to re-home with a "standard" dog owner (they usually end up with police or SAR). I think trainers kind of emphasize this "crazy dog" story so that people who are unfamiliar don't think, "Oh, it's a Golden Retriever with a different shape..." - and either end up dumping the dog or, like one dog I rehabbed, put it on *Prozac* for most of it's life.

    M wife and I have an Australian cattle dog (Blue Heeler) who just turned four and we use movie/cartoon languages for him(ex. "Yip-yip" from avatar to jump up in the car or "Papoy" from Minion's to retrieve and hand us his toy, makes people smile when we explain what the words mean :) We are looking to get a Malinois in a few months and we want to teach him in German. Then they will both have their own vocabulary so we can command them separately when off leash. Beautiful pup and thanks for the videos.

    Great vid. We lucked out when we adopted a rescue "shepherd mix"= Mali + boxer 98lbs. Looks like a Mali but broader chest, slightly shorter muzzle and longer lips help him blow bubbles. So awesome, cuddly and ferocious. The water thing, lays in his kiddie pool on hot days, same at the beach. The upside down posture! Training is a breeze, if you know what I mean;-) Howls on command, WoooOoo. Blows bubbles. In public mostly ignores people, is this a Mali trait?

    Funny comment about German makes you a REAL dog trainer ! ! Classic! I am half Aussie ( German blood originally ...5 generations ago) but am half French ( still a dual national) love this breed. I am a reg’sted working kelpie breeder and train them as stock dogs but they also are my love, life, everything. Also breed Egyptian Arab horses ( imported a few fillies) and live in the outback. I started registering and breeding Kelpies to try and produce dogs that are all instinct and break themselves in. The working kelpie too often is killed because they end up in the hands of ignorant people in the agricultural industry and don’ t get a chance. No dog is fully trained until over 2. Luckily there are good dog people out there too but in the bush it is hard to find dogs in need of help.

    I have a Dutch Shepherd name Dutchess (what else would I name her). Very similar behavior but a notch or two lower on the psycho dial. Actually your Mal seems pretty mellow compared to some I've seen. Dutchess is about her level of drive. I have a friend that has a very large 80 pound pure bred male Malinois (10 months old). It is more like the anti-Malinois because he has the traits of a Labrador Retriever instead of a Mal. He loves to retrieve and after one hour at the dog park, he is good for the day. Will sleep like a tired English Bulldog, but is always ready to go. My point is, these dogs don't all have traits that will make them difficult to keep as pets. Most are just fine if you have the time for them and at least 1 to 2 hours of walks or hard exercise at the dog park. When choosing a puppy from a litter, you can usually tell the more manageable ones from the rest. Unless you want a dog for bite work, just get a puppy that doesn't think it's a Piranha and you'll probably be fine.

    I rescued a Siberian Husky cross and found out she is half Malinois, of which I knew little. She is a yr old, smart and energetic. In obedience she is does well at home (even near our other rescues), but very timid and vocal when another dog gets near her boundaries at pet training center. For this reason I doubt she will pass the CGC test in a month. Any helpful tips appreciated.
