I never "trained" my malinois, but he will follow any command, including, "go to bed", and "go eat". As a pup, I told him to get off of the couch only one time, and he hasn't gotten on the furniture since. One time, and he gets it. The only word I need to control him is "no". He tells me when he wants to go out, and he used that signal to have me follow him only to discover my senior father in trouble on the stairs, or had fallen. When I see my father, he would lay down instead of going to the back door. He can jump, from a standing position, high enough to see over the neighbors 6 ft. fence. He only poops in one area of the backyard (his idea). Out of all the dogs, and dog breeds I've had, he's the only one to do that. Smartest dog I've ever been around, and I'd swear on a stack of bibles, that, by the look in his eyes, he understood me when I told him my father was dying, and later when I told him my father had passed. He had definite reactions. He used to come in and check my fathers'' chair to see if he had returned from the hospital. He stopped checking after I broke the news of his passing.
I got my female Malinois at 4 months old. She does not have an off switch and she acts just like your pup. My "Mel" is coming up on 8 months old. Is easy to train. Walks great both loose leash and heal. BUT then she turns into a Tasmanian Devil. She love to tug and retrieve toys. I'm 76 years old and she is the love of my life. If I were working I would not have bought her. I need a protection dog for my wife and me. I walk in front of the supermarket to teach her to behave around people. She is trained enough now that I leave her kennel open at night and she jumps on our bed and cuddles with me. Your video totally describes a Malinois. ThankQ for a great video.
I had two Malinois 13 years back. 1 day prior to my motorcycle exam, I prepared everything I needed, including the piece of paper that proved that I passed the Theory. Needless to say the dogs shredded it. I taped all the pieces I found together and went into the exam with that... the examiner said.. What in hell is that ? I said.. my theory certificate, after my dogs had their way with it... Luckily he knew it was valid so I was allowed to proceed with my Exam and luckily I passed. Now I have a new Malinois, 3 months old and the gipper is recovering from Parvo as we speak. Matter of fact... going to pick him up from the Vet right now.
Fun saying I heard about Malinois. If you throw a tennis ball off a cliff: • A dumb dog will jump after the ball to its death • A smart dog will look at you in confusion • A Malinois will jump off the cliff and bring you the ball back
I was born in Malines, so I am a Malinois. My dog is - of course - a Malinois. We have so much in common: we're both crazy as hell and enjoy life to the fullest. Great to be Malinois
@@adrianos7334 I don't eat paper, Adrianos. But the very moment I'm writing this comment, Luna is eating my weekly, and every single day in my office, she's emptying the dustbin and distributing the bits of paper all over the place.
Never thought of it that way, this must be why I have never had the kind of insanity I’m watching on this video,, I’m crazy I’m in control when I’m not your in trouble, no when taught correctly is basically the best communication possible with any dog, especially Malians.
My Malinois, Shadow, was at my side every day for almost 14 years. I was fortunate enough to be able to take him to work with me, and eventually went into semi-retirement. Did a LOT of hiking and camping in the Smokies, and in the Rockies. He never got tired or bored. And always let me know when there were bears about. 👍🏻 Very smart breed. Definitely too smart for casual dog owners.
@@Ouzo66 ,...well, your expression is pretty mean - besides that one has to know, that this is the breed's nature! I would call it : extremely vivid :-D ! BERNIE / GERMANY
We just got a 3-4 month old puppy from a rescue that was thought to be a german shepherd/lab mix. We had a feeling that wasn't accurate based on her looks. We looked over some pictures and figured she was a Mal. Watching this video only confirmed our thoughts. This is 100% the 2 year old version of our puppy! Love it!
Still my favorite Malinois video ♥️ I remember watching it a few months after getting our first Malinois and said to myself “What the hell did I get myself into..??” 🤣 3 years later and still loving everyday with this breed.
Mine likes to take off out the front door and runs 30mph. We have to round the block about 8 trips before she's tired enough to stop and come home. She does not come to us but rolls belly up for any of our neighbors. Most everybody falls in love with her as soon as they get her. Needles to say, I'll be throwing a barbeque for all the neighborhood for putting up with our shenanigans.
Got one at 14 months from a shelter and learned quickly that this was a smart but challenging for average person. Had to educate ourselves quickly and still continually to try to give her a better life and support her needs. Still not close to a professional but doesn’t look like we’re “ruining” her. Beautiful and very agile and super smart. Amazing dog.
Exactly. You don't *necessary* need to work him/her all day long or four hours and hours. Yes the Malinois is a working dog, not just a normal pet, and can excel in many things but you don't need to take that route if you don't want to. That's what I believe.
They are such great dogs!! Trained them in the military. Obedient, loyal, very protective, fun loving, intelligent and on and on. Yes they are hyper! But, they have great personalities and are worth every minute you spend with them. I sorely miss my best pal, Barry, 143L.
Our Mali is not quite two and he is the sweetest dog ever. So smart, so loving and good. He takes his training really seriously :) He has only eaten one coach.
After having several German Shepherds and one pitbull I am considering a Mal. Thank you so much for such an honest portrayal of the breed. Very helpful.
I have a malinois (terueren)/German Shepard mix and she's a mouthful. She's now eight years old and people think she's in her youth (so does she). She's a fantastic dog, to say that she's alert and eager to interact, and protect for that matter is an understatement. You have to be fast or otherwise she's ahead of you. She does need to feel that you're the leader, but you'll have to have a gentle touch. She wants to please if she knows what you mean.
I've had malinois for years. The one thing I can say with certainty is you have to stay about three steps ahead of them. Take that for what it's worth. That truly is the only reason I feel comfortable working out of town. My wife I know is safe.
I got a mal and I work a full time physical job she gets taken to dog beaches and parks, trails and long hikes and is now being trained in sleevework . They are incredible dogs but you must have an active lifestyle to keep up with there’s.
I saw an evolution chart that started off with a huge, predatory dinosaur, evolved into a T-Rex, which eventually evolved into a Velociraptor. It ended evolving into a Malinois. lol. Love this video, and am totally in love with Envy.
Absolutely, I have just had a very traumatic time, that came to a head, 4 weeks ago. I have always wanted to own and train a Belguim Malinois, so I am now the proud owner of a 8 week Malli puppy and she is high octane, so so intelligent but wants to learn and play all the time. She is a huge investment of your love and time but she has helped me refocus my mind on her and pour my love and time into training her, due to her tenacity, to learn and love back. You only get back from your dog, what dedication and love you put in. ‘Juno’ has been my Saviour in so many ways. xx
I have watched this vid several times and having experience with mals I can confidently say this is my favorite video about Belgian Malinois and what it's like to own one.
Your video was lovely and so informative. I've had German Shepherds and been an admirer of Malinois but had no idea of their intensity!! Wonderful job on this video and both you and your dog are beautiful! Would love to see more of Envy in videos. Good job.
Love your videos! It's refreshing to see someone who has a bit of a laid back nature yet is still very knowledgable and successful - I was starting to think I was out of place as a trainer because I didn't act like I was a Sergeant in the army 100% of the time!
Thanks for this awesome video. Our first Foster Malinois acts exactly like Envy. Always moving and never stopping. Don't forget, a resting Malinois is only recharging.
Great video.... My Malinois, Mala will turn 2 this month. I didn't know a thing about Mals until I got her. There were so many times I regretted getting her and almost gave her away to police dog trainers. I persisted, she began to mind me, and we grew very close. I cannot image life without her now. One thing for sure you have to spend time with a Mal. These dogs do not do well being caged up for 8 hours while you're at work. In fact I believe they become even more rambunctious and harder to control if they are left alone and especially caged up for long periods of time. My Mal spends the day with me, sleeps with me, and most of the time rides with me in my truck. When I have to leave her I leave her with someone. Have I spoiled her..... YES... and she knows it!
...or with someone that has the same personality as a Mal... My Mal is now a little over 3 years old.... she has turned out to be one of the best companions I have ever had.... that includes people. She and I can be seen together just about anywhere one or another is at any given time. I have been stopped by Police canine handlers wanting to know what I did to make my Mal so calm... My reply is simple.... spend time with her and let her know that she is special. That and always let her know that I am Alpha in our pack! I am 61 no farm.... not a police officer, but have a calm and very social Malinois.
that's awesome. people often underestimate bonding and engagement. as long as a mal knows who's in charge and is exercised and mentally stimulated everything is fine!
A beautiful Malinois, but that dog is in charge. I'm almost 69 and have had mine for just over a year - he's almost 15 months. He really wants to be good and is smart as heck, but he doesn't need 24/7 attention. Like any dog they adapt, but I also don't leave him alone for hours at a time. A couple of walks, a couple of outside fetch games with some hard running, some play catch inside and some training (he knows about 18 "tricks" - I'm including come, wait, stay, leave it type commands along with shake, go around, high five type stuff and more words than I realize) each day and he is happy. We've done 3 obedience classes and 1 agility class, mostly to socialize with other dogs. I had two Bouviers before him and you just have to be in charge. He wants to please. Big personality!! But they do need attention, just not what some try to make it seem.
I agree that she does not give off a leader vibe in the video but nor does most of the population. Many people get dogs because "they saw them in a movie" and have no clue what living with a dog really means. Look at 101 dalmations, Bethoven, etc. Many many people went and got the dog without understanding their history or breed traits and as a result many dogs was put in shelters or put down. I personally own a cross breed German Shepard x English bulldog. I am still in contact with the seller of my now 3 year old dog and I am the only original buyer from a litter of 8 pups due to the other owners unability to handle the bulldog x shepard mix. The rest of them had aggression problems the owners could or would not handle. What I mean is that there are dogs not suitable for new dog owners that lack experience ad time to spend with them and train them. That along with lack of leader skills and you have a tornado waiting to blow. Resulting in more abandoned dogs...
I was going to get a Siberian husky but I found 2 Belgian mela was at 4 weeks old they were going to be put down I adopted them did not know how these 2 were going to change my life I have fallen in love with this breed And I plan to always have a bilge and mellow wall in my life❤❣
We had 2 dogs that are ½ Malinois and they ate my daughter's jacket when she left it outside ...and her shoes ...and the dog toys we bought them ...and they got out of their kennel one night and unwrapped the kids' Christmas presents (but didn't eat them 🤷)... Yes, a Malinois will eat your homework! 😉
I’m about to adopt a 6 month old Malinois from the shelter. Love this video thank you!! We live in the mountains and I need a great daily hiking partner! They seem like a furry toddler after a pile of Halloween candy! 😂😂
My mal is 11 wks old today. I’ve had her for 2 wks now and she is identical to Envy in terms of looks, personality and energy. From pup to full grown, they are go go go😊
I have a german shepherd and sometimes i feel like he is not that hyper...(he is) and i was thinking about getting a Malinois...Ohhh no i was like i will stick with my GS hahahah
She's 16 months, still young so hope yet she will calm a little but she is a working prospect pick... I wanted a lot of dog and I got it! There's some videos of her on my channel. :) My male is a working/showline cross and he's a lazy bum in the house so I think it's easier to find a GSD for a quieter lifestyle than Malinois. In general, there are some Mal's that have great off switches too and a lot of that is training.
owner of a mali/tervuren mix over here. I never can imagine having an other dog now after 1 1/2 year. First it was a bit of change in everydays life because of her insane energy and spirit but now that we've trained her (up to 3 hours a day - training and free play outside) shes the best dog in the world. Her willing to learn and work is just crazy but it keeps us going and being active everyday. To those wo are working in a 9-to-5 I wouldn't recommend getting a Mal - you should bring a lot of time otherwise this breed is going to get "psycho" and "chaotic" like you said in the video! Nice Q&Q..keep going!
FACT! My neighbors are just retired and took a Groenendael, which is also a Belgian shepherd, looks like the Tervuren in black. They have found something amazing. Every day at 2pm, after his long walk the dog takes his blanket and takes it in front of the TV. He's adicted watching Tom and Jerry, don't put on another cartoon, because he turns his head. He watches TV for 3 hours and that gives them the change to go shopping. Also if you ask him to go to the beach which he loves, he doesn't move, you can show him his favorite toy, but when he's watching TV he doesn't come. Amazing dogs, but they aren't suitable for someone who works a lot. They need a lot of affection and someone with them.
Truly a great breed. I laughed several times watching, as my Mal, Warren, is SO much like this. But I couldn't imagine my life without her, she sleeps next to me every night
Aside from the side splitting hilarity of this video the information provided is on point. Just got you a new subscriber. Can't wait to get my Mal next year.
+AZ Patriot btw my mal,her name is ziva,it depends on how you train them how hyper they are i trained my mal to play with herself shes not that hyper at all if anything shes a lazy dog when im taking a nap(i hardly ever do)shes right there by ma side
This lady is right, I have a Mal as a working dog (K9 Blaze). K9 Blaze is everything she has explained. I throw, and throw, and throw, and throw a ball and this dog does not tire. They are EXTREMELY fast dogs. When dealing with them, it's quite certain you will be bit, HARD. I also have 2 Shepherds. As I have always said, The worse thing about a Mal and/or Shepherd is the best thing about them. Everywhere I go they are there (including but not limited to the bathroom). However if I ever need them, they aren't to far away. Do your research on the dog your getting, make sure if the animal fits you and your lifestyle.
My wife and I have two just turned a year old - brother and sister. They are certainly a handful, I had forgotten what they are like as puppies. We lost our Malinois last July and my wife absolutely had to have a dog and I like a nut said we should get two. Well our lives have not been the same; they absolutely have to be kept active or they get into mischief. Everything belongs to the female, she scopes out what she wants to get into, collaborates with her brother to keep us distracted while she sets out to take what she wants. They are a beautiful breed, smart and are a lot of work. At 68 and 62 respectively, a little more that we bargained for.
I love how *Envy* decided when you were done speaking from your notes. I have a Belgian Malinois in the USA (I am visiting in Alice Springs and leave on Friday). I have been away from my home for almost 3 weeks; and I miss my Sable - the Belgian Malinois.
She's a good dog.....Envy is a good dog.....she's just happy. I had a German Shepherd....and he liked to tear paper up and act crazy.. Your Envy is a beautiful dog
Such a down to earth informative video. A must see for any potential owner. Have owned Kelpie X dogs for over 30yrs they are much alike in the energy department. Boredom leads to destruction.
I have a kelpie x also, she is a rescue i got her when she was 5/6 or 7 and now she is 15. She still runs ( canters) up our very steep 1km drive 1-3 times a day, big walk and hour of ball chasing and then she is happy. She also goes with me everywhere and never left alone. With these breeds if you cant do the exercise and mental stimulation they become depressed. No life for any working dog. People need to know this.
I own one that is 1 year old...The only people who cant handle the Mal's are people who dont want to or cant spend enough time with them....They can be trained as well as any other dog...But they do REQUIRE your attention....Wonderful dogs
I saw this video a cocouple of years ago. I enjoyed it then and I especially enjoyed it now while I'm in quarantine in SFBAY. Thank you for sharing. It made my day
My rescue Belgian Malinois mix is the most hyper dog I have ever owned. He requires at least a few miles of running every single day. I can not imaging having a purebred Belgian Malinois.
I have a malinois great Dane mix when she plays she plays hard she is up at 4 am everyday I have a pit mastiff mix also she puts him in his place on a daily basis
I couldn't handle a 2 y.o Mal. I had to give her up. Just kept following me around the farm. Gave her to my Nan for company. Those two ladies must be having great fun at the retirement home- i haven't heard from Nanna in weeks!
I just started watching vids on these beautiful animals. So far until I found this post, I only saw the "working" dog vids. Thanks for showing the more "normal" side of these fur babies.
Absolutely. I watch this because there was an incident with a Belgian Schäferhund in my neighbourhood (I live in a German city, ca. 250 000 inhibitants, close to the centre) The dog escaped from his owners flat, once outside it headed right for the playground about 50 meters away, hurt 4 children and one adult women, got wounded by police shooting as they couldn't get hold of him. Then the wounded dog returned to the flat where the owner was able to put him on a leash and later agreed on putting the dog down, as the injuries were very bad. I don't want to blame the poor dog but this moron keeping him in a small flat on a street full of houses, kids, other dogs etc. Just to tell everything: The kids aged 4 to 11 had minor injuries as well as the woman. God bless.
Thank you for your answer! The problem I see with keeping these dogs in a city like mine is: Where do you go to train your dog? You need a car and you need to have access to some dog sport facility outside the city, and you don't get that for free. The dogowner i talked about did none of this. He took the dog out for a pee and a shit, and thats it.
Christina Gottlieb you can make a dog happy living in an apartment. My Malinois and I live in an apartment and we go out to the Park near by with a soccer ball and I run her till she tired and i get to expend little energy. Around the apartment we do training skills and still play inside. That owner just sounds like they didn’t take the time to do what they needed with their dog.
WE live in a small apartment, he goes for multiple walks daily, and gets trick training daily as well. It was hard to contain him in a yard actually, he's an escape artist lol
@Violet Heavensbee I fully agree with you! I have had same experience with my large Shep x Husky! I walked and exercised him daily, and he was docile inside! Townhouse to a small apartment.. No issues at all! But...I think a Malinois may well be an exception! Extremely energetic, extremely intelligent, needs a full-time JOB to do and difficult puzzles to solve during breaks!
We are getting our female Belgian Malinois German Shepard mix Dec 20. We have done our homework and dog sat a two year old for a week and fell in love with her. We have had German Shepard’s in the past and look forward to having this puppy added to our family. Lots of walks and fetching coming up😀
They don’t miss anything. Super alert, super protective, and super loving & loyal. My 2nd Malinois gets along great with big and small dogs. She almost ate the cat until she learned they are family members to be respected. She’s more afraid of a paper bag falling on her than much of anything else. She’s strong, tolerant of cold and hot weather and a very durable dog.
Thank you for the great video. My son is serving in our armed forces so I have only seen this breed working, not during down time. I have learned a lot.
Envy is just beautiful and I am very, very glad she's YOURS. :) About five years ago I rescued a GSD/Heeler mix who was my first experience with a high drive dog. Your Envy makes me think of her. I'd had GSDs and even a Border Collie before and had done some training and tracking (hobby only). I've even had a Jack Russell/Dachshund mix (part dog/part wild thing). Story joined our house at ten weeks old--was a dream to housebreak, super easy to teach the basics. But she never, ever, ever, ever, ever slept. And she had to have something in her mouth all the time--on walks, in the house, etc. She destroyed bedding, ate socks, and chewed up all her toys. Story loved fireworks! The boys would take her outside with them on the 4th of July and had to hold her back to keep her from grabbing the bottle rockets. The more explosions, the happier she got. We are seasoned dog owners and love a challenge, but this? Good grief . . . My oldest son graduated from college, landed a dream job, and moved out. Story went with him. It turned out to be a perfect match. He gets her and is not put off by her complicated disposition. He tells me that at five years old, she's finally sleeping at night--sometimes. And she's stopped chewing up her toys--mostly.
I have a seven month old Mal lab mix, and it is the most calm dog I've ever met. She somtimes refuses to continue onto walks no matter what I do! she is AMAZINGLY smart though! learned her name, sit, 'look' and lay down all on her first day with us. We are continuing training, and I'll update if she becomes more energetic!
We adopted what turned out to be a 4 year old Mal a little over 5 months ago (the rescue had her listed as a German Shepherd/Husky mix). She's very chill (a total couch potato) who doesn't play with toys. She's not a chewer either. She can be destructive (mostly food-oriented), so we have had to start crating her when we're gone and at night (I give her a frozen peanut butter filled Kong, which keeps her busy). She's incredibly well trained (thanks to whoever trained her!), and has decided that I am her person.
Excellent video. Great display of a Belgian in action. My female is now 3 years old. What I have experienced is our girl has not really calmed down. But her spurts are not as frequent. I got Ruby at 1 years old old. They are a surveillance canine. They hear, and see everything. When they are with their one partner, or the alpha. They are always on alert. Belgians seems to have increased visual acuity. They see very long distances. Thus why they make great service canines. They are very active with their mouths. Ruby, has never once drawn blood on me. But when playing. Keep your attention close to all activity. They are lightning quick. If trained. They are very easy to handle. This gal does a great job displaying her female. They are not hap hazard. Like when the dog takes the paper from mom. They get jealous, and in my opinion. Her female knew she was communicating with someone. That someone was not her, so she took matters into her mouth😊. You have a great female. Enjoy her. Time goes too fast. Merry Christmas.
Thanks! Envy is now 11.5 years old and finally slowed a little, but still high energy and ready to go. Time has gone fast. Our other two dogs have passed in the last year. Envy has been and still is a wonderful dog. Having a malinois has been a fun and crazy adventure.
Just rescued one off the side of the road. Had no idea what I was getting in to!!! Thanks for the great video. I gotta go tug now with Bambi....perhaps not the best name choice now that I know? Haha.
I've had one for 12 years. Not true. The best 80 lb trail running partner I've ever had. She's totally retired now, of course, but I miss those runs every day. These dogs NEED a job, every day. They are working dogs, not house pets. No mouthing people allowed -- leads to biting. Mine was stellar with my kid, but not with other people's kids. Unlike my previous GSDs.
+Anne VanDeuson I have one and he is a little over a year he has calmed down a bit but when we first got him and he was a puppy he was so energetic and mischievous.
sad to hear that, I cannot imagine myself more happy without this dog :), If you appreciate this dog character and dynamic and start taking advantage of it you'll see the positive result. I know people that took GS/Malinois only for their great look (which is the worst thing you wanna do). If people on the street asking me about the breed I've got I'm not seeing that this is Belgian Malinois in order to avoid "bad breeding" in the future -> the same that happen to the GS - you know people wanna something -> marker make it cheaper -> no one care about the breeding and possible genetic defects. If you want a dog first thing you need to do is to search through the character if their match your need! and NOT how it looks like!.
Omg, your facial expressions are priceless. We adopted a Mal last month at the shelter. We didn't do our research and he is 7 and untrained O.o. Ne was perfectly calm until we got to the car and he wanted to play. Now we have to train and adult Mal and get him adjusted to a prosthetic at the same time.
6 weeks to 12 weeks was a tough time and I often regretted getting mine. But from 12 weeks until now, about a year my mal has been sooo much fun living with and such a blessing. Just have to have a schedule and be consistent with training. The Farts are definitely true and they smell awful!
I can SO relate to your video, only I found it AFTER getting a Malinois ... AND, she is such a sweetie, and funny, and energetic, and I totally love her to bits!
Great vid. Funny. Envy is very beautiful and she's lucky to have you! You're probably both too smart for some people to "get", but that's ok. Clever is better than snobby. Cheers from Canada! 😊
Hi! Beautifully done. This is exactly what it is. I come from Belgium, Malines and have known these dogs for all my life. I have one right now :) If you're in to Lassy movies, this dog is not for you. If you want a highly intelligent dog that never stops to amaze you and ... ahum... just never stops.... this is for you (and keep your fingers away when you want to play a game of thug...)
I had a fully trained Louisanna Catahoola Leapord Dog. Spot was his name. He died 10 years ago and I miss him to this day. Now I'm an old man, but I do wish I was younger so I could have a Malinois. However I would hate to pass away and leave a beloved dog behind. Thank you so much for your hard work and your thoughts on this breed. I love your videos. Greg Chaney
Christ, if I was having a 'bad day' ...I'm NOT anymore! You guys are utterly hilarious together!! Great video, effortlessly - maybe not for you ; ) ) - informative, while also giving me the perfect insight... ....thanks!
We call them Maligators for a reason. Best reason to not have one: You are lazy and you know it and/or you expect the dog to be self-maintaining. This will end in disaster for you and the dog. They need a job - and if you don't give on to them, they will find one ... and you won't like the job they find ..... I've had some super-high drive Mali's and some that were pretty mellow (relatively, of course - they'll never be a Golden Retriever ... even when they're asleep). I prefer about half-way between the extremes .... If you put the time into them, however, it pays off in amazing ways. From my experience, they don't calm down a lot until they're more like 4-5 years old ... but your mileage may vary ... Oh - and one more reason to not have one is if you don't like getting slimed - lol. Mali's are very "mouthy" in that they love to put their open mouth on your hands or arms - especially if they like you ;)
I love that ending, it really shows their nature. Super focused and ready to work, but still need to explode afterwards. You really only ever see them working and that can give people the wrong idea of this dog's energy during "free-time".
+KaregoAt Yes I think it's so easy to only look at the brilliant training videos of dogs that have had a LOT of hard work put into them and think, "I want one of those!"
Good video - we just adopted what appears to be a Malinois pup from the HS here in Grand Cayman. He is 3.5 months. Will be a handful but look forward to training him
Thank you for all your comments on this video that continually crack me up laughing. From the grateful to the know it alls to the people with no sense of humour to the marriage proposals. Thank you. Thank you for it all.
NoToBigBro Apparently so. I have a Jack Russell Terrier (bred from hunting lines) and the next one to join the family will be a Malinois. Personally I don't find the hyperactivity of a JRT too much at all. Looking forward to see which one would tire out first when we get a Malinois later this year.
great video, you had me laughing. I just finished a 12 week course that our local police department puts on for citizens. After seeing their police dogs in action (malinois) I was thinking about getting one. I just had to put down my 12 year old lab, but going from mello to the opposite is weighing on my decision. Thanks!
Love her energy. Very athletic. I can see how it takes a pothead to have enough patience to to put up with them for long periods of time. Beautiful creature.
I’ve had two Mals. My first was a retired Drug Dog. She was so amazing, and was the best family dog. My current one didn’t cut it for police work, but she’s also a perfect family dog. She isn’t as high-strung, but she loves to let out her energy. I will also be a Malinois person.
0330: wakes up daddy to go outside and potty. 0340: watches daddy drink his coffee. 0345: watches daddy potty. 0400: out for a 3-4 mile run/walk. 0500: watches daddy shower. 0545: watches sadly as daddy leaves for worlk. 1810: yay, daddy's home. 1820: out for a 3 mile run/walk. 1900: watches daddy eat dinner. 1915: play time, play time, play time. 2100: watches daddy sleep. Repeat cycle.
This video was the last reason I needed to take one Malinois myself, I now have mine for four years and do a lot of stuf with him and he is good at many things like Obedience and Agility, but most of all it is an incredible fine friend and a pal for life.
Yes, I would like 5 on my farm. I have a Maligator! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Family dogs, funny, sweet, smart, and easy to have trained. I would go to a trainer, so your foundation is correct. This is what we did. Got mine as a year old rescue. PERFECT DOG!
WoW.
What a dog.
Dogs are most definitely sent to us.
We are lucky for that that's for sure.
Blessings.

Yea a gold fish sounds about right for me.
LOL!!!

Welcome to the goldfish club!
Me: my dog ate my homework.
Teacher: Detention
Her: my malinois ate my homework?
Tearcher: Fair enough, i understand.
Matter of fact... going to pick him up from the Vet right now.
lol...and u wouldnt even be lying...lol.....
My family owns one and he LITERALLY ate my homework
my groenendael actually ate my homework as well XD
LOL 😂
Fun saying I heard about Malinois. If you throw a tennis ball off a cliff:
• A dumb dog will jump after the ball to its death
• A smart dog will look at you in confusion
• A Malinois will jump off the cliff and bring you the ball back
My Mal is 11...and she's just getting out of puppy stage.
😂😂😂
Oh, she matured early... :)
😂😂
8 more years for me i guess.
@@danielwalker26 At least...injoy your pup!
I was born in Malines, so I am a Malinois. My dog is - of course - a Malinois. We have so much in common: we're both crazy as hell and enjoy life to the fullest. Great to be Malinois
Do you eat paper too? hahaha (just joking) I love those dogs
I feel like a Malinois also
Football Club Malinois or Racing Club de Malines dear F. De Munter ?
My Malinois, Shadow, was at my side every day for almost 14 years.
I was fortunate enough to be able to take him to work with me, and eventually went into semi-retirement. Did a LOT of hiking and camping in the Smokies, and in the Rockies.
He never got tired or bored. And always let me know when there were bears about. 👍🏻
Very smart breed. Definitely too smart for casual dog owners.
Don't forget too dominant for casual dog owners.

I'm a retired k9 trainer & handler for over 12 years , I know mainois extremely well 😀 They r insanely intelligent Furr Missiles ❤

I've enjoyed this breed for 50+ years. My mother brought three to the states in 1965 from France. She raised them for the next 40 years.
Talk about fun, you need to try SAR. There are thousands of SAR groups all across the country. Get up with one and hang on.
I got a mal and I work a full time physical job she gets taken to dog beaches and parks, trails and long hikes and is now being trained in sleevework . They are incredible dogs but you must have an active lifestyle to keep up with there’s.
Finally, a level-headed video for those considering getting a Malinois. Thank you!
+J Wu Thank you!
I saw an evolution chart that started off with a huge, predatory dinosaur, evolved into a T-Rex, which eventually evolved into a Velociraptor. It ended evolving into a Malinois. lol. Love this video, and am totally in love with Envy.

This is by far the best, most honest Malinois video I’ve ever seen. A glimpse of what they’re like on any given day.
These dogs are ideal for people with PTSD , The dog keeps you so busy you don't even have time to think and dwell on things👍🏻

Good job.
Dog: Apparently that paper is taking your attention away from me so I’m taking the paper away from you.
Love your videos! It's refreshing to see someone who has a bit of a laid back nature yet is still very knowledgable and successful - I was starting to think I was out of place as a trainer because I didn't act like I was a Sergeant in the army 100% of the time!
Thanks Phoebe! I agree - no need to be so serious ALL the time! Have fun!
Thanks for this awesome video. Our first Foster Malinois acts exactly like Envy. Always moving and never stopping. Don't forget, a resting Malinois is only recharging.
+MarcHill83 A five minute recharge and they are right to go! Thanks for the kind comment
Hahaha!
Rick Catania what do you mean with persisted? :)
Persisted meaning that I continued to work with her until she started doing what I wanted her to do.
...or with someone that has the same personality as a Mal...
Stefanie Probst good to know. Is there any real difference in the sexes?
But they do need attention, just not what some try to make it seem.
grftul I agree I’ve got a 3 y/o female Malinois. She doesn’t care what she’s doing as long as she’s with me. She’s the best!
Good to know
grftul . Sounds like an “adult’s” assessment of the situation. Good for you!

My mal is 11 wks old today. I’ve had her for 2 wks now and she is identical to Envy in terms of looks, personality and energy. From pup to full grown, they are go go go😊
Thanks that changed my mind, I'll stick with GSD.
I have a german shepherd and sometimes i feel like he is not that hyper...(he is) and i was thinking about getting a Malinois...Ohhh no i was like i will stick with my GS hahahah
My working line GSD is just like this Malinois LOL.
Carrie Lmao I bet.....is your gsd czech line?
Carrie How old is she?
She's 16 months, still young so hope yet she will calm a little but she is a working prospect pick... I wanted a lot of dog and I got it! There's some videos of her on my channel. :) My male is a working/showline cross and he's a lazy bum in the house so I think it's easier to find a GSD for a quieter lifestyle than Malinois. In general, there are some Mal's that have great off switches too and a lot of that is training.
I'll never get one, thanks for the informative vid.
owner of a mali/tervuren mix over here.
LMAO, "Malinois: German Shepherds on speed? ....yep thats true"

I love my maligator she is awesome. I stay up late but the return is worth it 100%
This lady is right, I have a Mal as a working dog (K9 Blaze).
+Ricky D Lol my Mal always follows me to the bathroom. If I don't open the door she sits there and wines. She stays glued to my hip all day.
Exactly the same as my jack russell terrier, but 5 times the size
Exactly what I was thinking, that’s what my Jack Russell is like, non stop play!
I hope you have enjoyed Australia Warron! I just visited the US a few weeks ago! I missed my dogs too. That is the hardest part with travelling.
Yes indeed. Especially for me last week. I actually suffered from a heart attack - of all things last Thursday.
Thanks for the well wishes.
She's a good dog.....Envy is a good dog.....she's just happy. I had a German Shepherd....and he liked to tear paper up and act crazy.. Your Envy is a beautiful dog
Merry Christmas.
It made my day
#1 reason is Loyalty! I've had Dobermans, GS's and nothing even comes close to my Mali. Will never own anything other than a Mali again.
My rescue Belgian Malinois mix is the most hyper dog I have ever owned. He requires at least a few miles of running every single day. I can not imaging having a purebred Belgian Malinois.

I just started watching vids on these beautiful animals. So far until I found this post, I only saw the "working" dog vids. Thanks for showing the more "normal" side of these fur babies.
They are beautiful, and with the right owner they are great dogs. Thanks made our mind up on us getting a Malinois. Definite now.
Not the dog for apartment dwellers, these wonderful , beautiful bundles of energy, need a nice size yard to roam in.
She's a spectacular example!! Lovely Mal!!!
They only know one word.....
"Play"
Some folks think they are "working" dogs.
Mals dont know what work is. They think EVERYTHING is play.
Where are you in country i want malinous puppy
This is brilliant
+Creative Pet Keeping Thank you!
Mine laid down while awake for the first time when he was 1 year old. I honestly thought he was sick! He had never stopped moving before! 😅
Envy is just beautiful and I am very, very glad she's YOURS. :)
About five years ago I rescued a GSD/Heeler mix who was my first experience with a high drive dog.
I got
Ruby at 1 years old old.
Haha.
I'd love to own one, but I don't think I have enough energy for one
This might sound stupid but.. get two 😂
German Shepherd/ Belgian Malanois mix = Say goodbye to your life.
Exactly. Mine took 3 yrs to settle down. But so did my GSDs. They are teenagers for a long time :)
Not true. Probably easier to live with than a malinois.
sad to hear that, I cannot imagine myself more happy without this dog :), If you appreciate this dog character and dynamic and start taking advantage of it you'll see the positive result.
Thank you! That just totally changed my mind. I could not tolerate that behaviour.
If you think a Border Collie is high energy, Malinois are like a Border Collie on steroids.
+l84Cabo I have a border collie too! You can see him in my other videos
Beautiful dog but waaayy too much hyperactive energy for me.
Thank you for your honesty. You saved me about 10 years of annoyance.
Ok, I guess I won't be owning one.
I have 2 its fun 🤣
Great vid. Funny. Envy is very beautiful and she's lucky to have you! You're probably both too smart for some people to "get", but that's ok. Clever is better than snobby. Cheers from Canada! 😊
Thanks so much!
Thank You! This is the very best dog video I have seen in a very long time. WHAT a handful that beautiful dog is!!!
Mali's are very "mouthy" in that they love to put their open mouth on your hands or arms - especially if they like you ;)
They need a job... Gotta keep them busy.
YES
Mark Pozsar
It means u shouldn’t have one. Deal with it.
Mark Pozsar DONT GET ONE THEN IF YOU KNOW YOU DONT HAVE THE TIME!!!!!!!!! Gosh!
Mark Pozsar 👍
I love that ending, it really shows their nature. Super focused and ready to work, but still need to explode afterwards. You really only ever see them working and that can give people the wrong idea of this dog's energy during "free-time".
+KaregoAt Yes I think it's so easy to only look at the brilliant training videos of dogs that have had a LOT of hard work put into them and think, "I want one of those!"
Good video - we just adopted what appears to be a Malinois pup from the HS here in Grand Cayman. He is 3.5 months. Will be a handful but look forward to training him
One of the best malinois videos I've seen so far. Very informative. Thanks for the honesty :)
Thank you for all your comments on this video that continually crack me up laughing. From the grateful to the know it alls to the people with no sense of humour to the marriage proposals. Thank you. Thank you for it all.
So they are like super sized Jack Russell?
NoToBigBro yep
NoToBigBro Apparently so. I have a Jack Russell Terrier (bred from hunting lines) and the next one to join the family will be a Malinois. Personally I don't find the hyperactivity of a JRT too much at all. Looking forward to see which one would tire out first when we get a Malinois later this year.
on every steroid together lol..
EXACTLY WHAT AI THOUGHT! huge size jack russell !!! omgosh.
TQ i would love to hear you compare the breeds now! Malinois vs jack russell! 😁
great video, you had me laughing.
I will also be a Malinois person.
just adopted two of them , 4 months old brother and sister , its gonna be amazing raising them !!
Keep us informed 👍
I want your contact.....I also wanna get it
Wow! You have the calmest, most well behaved Mal I've ever seen - LOL. There is no "off" switch with Malinois'.

Going to work? Isn't that animal neglect for a Malinois?
Awe!!! You are so good
That walk to run pace is a tad slow man.
keeps daddy healthy , hearty and happy ===corrrect
This video was the last reason I needed to take one Malinois myself, I now have mine for four years and do a lot of stuf with him and he is good at many things like Obedience and Agility, but most of all it is an incredible fine friend and a pal for life.
Yes, I would like 5 on my farm. I have a Maligator! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Family dogs, funny, sweet, smart, and easy to have trained. I would go to a trainer, so your foundation is correct. This is what we did. Got mine as a year old rescue. PERFECT DOG!
