Someone's probably already said it, but the opening credits are a depiction of the 'bloodline' of the Targaryen family tree running through a model of Old Valyria like Viserys' one. The sigils are those of individual Targaryen family members as they marry and have children, beginning with the Doom of Valyria and the first king, Aegon the Conqueror (who took over and united the Seven Kingdoms), and leading up to his namesake, Aegon the second (Alicent's firstborn). I believe the titles do change slightly with the addition of new members to the family.
I wouldn't normally mention this but, I've seen way too many people get confused by this assumption and then seen it make them misinterpret (or miss) the subtext of future scenes.... The scene with Daemon and Mysaria from the pilot was not an indication that Daemon has "plumbing trouble". He was just having trouble because he was upset, he wasn't upset because he was having trouble (if that makes sense...). That scene was really all about Daemon being upset about the tournament celebrating the (assumed) new baby heir that would replace him. It was just about his emotional baggage, not meant as an indication of him having stunted reproductive capabilities.
The baby is Aegon the second. The original was Aegon the Conqueror, who is the one who conquered Westeros, which happened a few generations before this show. Other Targaryens would be named Aegon throughout history as well, sort of like how so many French kings are named Louis.
So, because they have Targaryen blood, Princess Rhaenys and her son Laenor Velaryon also have dragons, Meleys and Seasmoke respectively. Also the Velaryon sigil is a mythical-style seahorse on a sea green background, which is what that banner you saw at the start was.

Not during a medieval time period. There’s a 16 yr age gap between them. She would be 30 before he’s old enough to start trying to produce heirs. Which is very old for a female in those settings. The solution to Viserys problems would have been to not marry anyone after naming Rhaenyra heir. And instead annulling Daemons marriage, consolidating Rhaenyra and Daemons claims to the throne by marrying them, and then promising betrothals to their children and any Velaryon heirs to unite the 2 most powerful Valyrian houses. Maybe throw in a Celtigar & Beratheon marriage too down the line. To keep the Valyrian families happy. But that’s just me 🤷🏼
This Daemon moment would make you think that during the tourneys he isn't taking it very seriously to where it crosses your mind that he could've killed Criston Cole right there and then but all he does is seek glory and admiration for his Targaryen strength since all eyes are on him thus risking a lose to Criston Cole, but, the Battle of the Step Stones is a war not a game and he's taking this very seriously.
King Aegon I Targaryen, the guy who conquered the Seven Kingdoms with his two sister-wives, lived about 100 years before the events of House of the Dragon. So when you ask if "he's THE Aegon," I'm assuming you mean Aegon I. And no, Queen Alicent's son Aegon with Viserys I is not that Aegon.

Aegon the Conqueror - the one who came to Westeros and defeated everyone with dragons, built King's Landing, whose name everyone knows, yadda yadda - was Jaehaerys' grandfather. Jaehaerys was the one we saw in the intro to s1 who had to decide between Viserys and Rhaenys as heir, and who is often mentioned as ruling over a long period of peace. Jaehaerys was Viserys' grandfather. So Viserys is 4 generations removed from Aegon, first of his name.

Otto is a snake and only Daemon seems to see him for what he is. He basically put the idea of naming Rhaenyra as heir simply because of his hate for him. Yet when his grandson is next to be heir he starts to plant those seeds with Alicent.
That is not Aegon the conqueror. He died a century ago. The intro shows the Targaryen bloodline. Starting with Aegon the conqueror till Rhaenyra. Every dead Targaryen will have their emblem filled with blood in the intro. And for the alive ones, blood flow through the outside. The guy who ride that dragon at the end was Laenor, son of Corlys. He's the one Lord Strong suggested as a match for Rhaenyra. And his dragon is Seasmoke.
Sorry Angela, I'm a tad confused. Why is Corlys wrong for doing something behind the King's back but Rhaenyra is showing strength for basically doing the same thing when she goes to Dragonstone (where for all Viserys knows she or her dragon might have been killed)? It was great to see that Viserys really loves his daughter and gives in when she confronted him with the fact that he should have wed Laena when it was for duty. The fact that he sticks with his plan that Rhaenyra should be his heir, leads me to suspect that he loves her more than Aegon; I think also because he loved Aemma more than Alicent. I'm with you on your opinion of Alicent, she cares about him and Rhaenyra.
While it feels very icky to betrothe Rhaenery and little Aegon (I mean, it _is,_ lets not beat around the bush there) its is also pretty par for the course of the Targaryans. I don't think the sentece was in the show, but in the Original Song of Ice and Fire book, the first one, Daenerys thinks that she always assumed that she would marry Viserys, as is the Tradition of their family. Marrying Aegon and Rhaenery would not be that far outside the real of possibility for the Targaryan bloodline. And I mean, he is only her halfbrother, for Targaryans, that is practically new blood...

The thing I love about this show is this. I may not agree with everyone's decisions and points of view. But I completely understand and sometimes agree with them and for that, this show is amazing ! I love it !!! Also, I see the end battle slightly different. I think daemon expected to die there. I'm on the side of yes, if I'm gonna die, I'll die trying my best. I don't think he expected the dragons to save him but that could just be me =)
In hindsight I definitely think he intended to die, but I was confused about the surrendering. Maybe he changed his mind? Or it was planned? Either way, he intended to do a lot of damage before his possible demise

That scene. Of drunk Viserys lamenting in front of the fire. What an excellent moment. "I thought Rhaenyra was the way out of my abyss of grief and regret. And naming her heir would begin to set things right. I never imagined I would remarry...that I would have a son. What if I was wrong?" Paddy is as good an actor as the character Viserys is a piece of excrement. Let's not get that twisted. What sympathy? He is telling his teenage wife to her face marrying her was a mistake. His kids are a mistake. Nobody forced Viserys to re-marry and sire children.
This isn't "THE AEGON". Quick Iron Throne Lineage Aegon the Conqueror creates the throne, his son Aenys succeeds him followed by his other son Maegor then Aenys sons Jaharhys (Which is the old king from epsiode 1) and now Viserys (who is Jaharys grandson because big J ruled for decades and his kids all died, he's also the grand father of Aemma (Rhanerys Mom) and Rhaenys (the queen that never was). So this would be the third person to carry the Aegon name. The Targaryans (like reallife dynasties) were big on re-using names. There's basically one Targaryan ever who has a unique name (that would be Duncan Targaryan who's like a century away).
And the Dragon at the Battle is named Seasmoke with the rider Laenor Velaryon who's mother is a Targaryan and as such would be Viserys and Daemon's second cousin. Not entirely sure where on the cousin tree he is in relation to Rhaenyra but the somethingTH cousin.

In our universe, in the history of our world, marriageable age from Classical antiquity to the 19th century in the west averaged from 14 for male to 12 for females , changed by the late 19 and early 20th century , in general. So no alternate universe involved here , tho this George R R Martin universe is an alternate time line from ours.

This is a bit over 109 years post conquest. Crispin is Rhaenyra's sworn protector. In noting Otto's suggestion of a marriage between Aegon and Rhaenyra, also remember it was also Ottos who pimped his daughter out to Viserys. Ser Harwin "Breakbones" Strong captured the stag Viserys killed. That was Ser Harwin who gave Rhaenyra that look when she walked up all bloodied. Laenor's dragon is named Seasmoke. For the record, Targaryens are not actually fireproof. They are resistant to fire and disease. The fireproof Daenerys thing was one of the many examples of overreaching by the showrunners and writers of GoT away from the cannon of the story. But note that Drahar had a severe case of greyscale, ergo the Sons of the Harly mask, and Daemon was covered in his blood. I guess we shall see if they are immune to disease. ✌️

Jofferey's awfulness and mendacity were not the result of him being the product of his mother and her brother being the ones conceiving him. He was an awful person simply because he was an awful person. It happens, ........even among non-inbred people. Think about it for a bit. Tommen and Marcella were, by all considerations fairly decent and quite possibly even good kids and people. Which means Cersei's and Jaimie's incestuous relationship had a 1 in 3 success rate at producing terrible human beings if the result of inbreeding is awful human beings. That's not a very good success rate for a case arguing that incest leads to producing terrible human beings (personality and morality wise). It could just be that the Lannister genes have a tendency to produce terrible people at a rate of about once every three kids for reasons that have nothing to do with incest. Inbreeding and incest are more apt to produce physical deformities and immune system failures....but only after SEVERAL generations of doing so. Aegon the Conqueror - the one who came to Westeros and defeated everyone with dragons, built King's Landing, whose name everyone knows, yadda yadda - was Jaehaerys' grandfather. Jaehaerys was the one we saw in the intro to s1 who had to decide between Viserys and Rhaenys as heir, and who is often mentioned as ruling over a long period of peace. Jaehaerys was Viserys' grandfather. So Viserys is 4 generations removed from Aegon, first of his name.

Otto is a snake and only Daemon seems to see him for what he is. He basically put the idea of naming Rhaenyra as heir simply because of his hate for him. Yet when his grandson is next to be heir he starts to plant those seeds with Alicent.
That is not Aegon the conqueror. He died a century ago. The intro shows the Targaryen bloodline. Starting with Aegon the conqueror till Rhaenyra. Every dead Targaryen will have their emblem filled with blood in the intro. And for the alive ones, blood flow through the outside.
The guy who ride that dragon at the end was Laenor, son of Corlys. He's the one Lord Strong suggested as a match for Rhaenyra. And his dragon is Seasmoke.

Why is Corlys wrong for doing something behind the King's back but Rhaenyra is showing strength for basically doing the same thing when she goes to Dragonstone (where for all Viserys knows she or her dragon might have been killed)? It was great to see that Viserys really loves his daughter and gives in when she confronted him with the fact that he should have wed Laena when it was for duty. The fact that he sticks with his plan that Rhaenyra should be his heir, leads me to suspect that he loves her more than Aegon; I think also because he loved Aemma more than Alicent. I'm with you on your opinion of Alicent, she cares about him and Rhaenyra.

The dragon rider was Laenor Velaryon. He is of course Targaryan on his mother's side.
While it feels very icky to betrothe Rhaenery and little Aegon (I mean, it _is,_ lets not beat around the bush there) its is also pretty par for the course of the Targaryans. I don't think the sentece was in the show, but in the Original Song of Ice and Fire book, the first one, Daenerys thinks that she always assumed that she would marry Viserys, as is the Tradition of their family. Marrying Aegon and Rhaenery would not be that far outside the real of possibility for the Targaryan bloodline. And I mean, he is only her halfbrother, for Targaryans, that is practically new blood...

The thing I love about this show is this. I may not agree with everyone's decisions and points of view. But I completely understand and sometimes agree with them and for that, this show is amazing ! I love it !!!
Also, I see the end battle slightly different. I think daemon expected to die there. I'm on the side of yes, if I'm gonna die, I'll die trying my best. I don't think he expected the dragons to save him but that could just be me =)
In hindsight I definitely think he intended to die, but I was confused about the surrendering. Maybe he changed his mind? Or it was planned? Either way, he intended to do a lot of damage before his possible demise
@@funnylilgalreacts he surrendered cause that was the only way to draw some of them out without being put full with arrows. It was Laenor's plan, but as they said only a madman could do it because by the time the whole army was out said person could be dead.
The opening isn't just blood. It's the bloodlines of House Targaryen. Each character has a sigil and you see the blood branch from parent to child.

Paddy is as good an actor as the character Viserys is a piece of excrement. Let's not get that twisted. What sympathy? He is telling his teenage wife to her face marrying her was a mistake. His kids are a mistake. Nobody forced Viserys to re-marry and sire children.

Quick Iron Throne Lineage
Aegon the Conqueror creates the throne, his son Aenys succeeds him followed by his other son Maegor then Aenys sons Jaharhys (Which is the old king from epsiode 1) and now Viserys (who is Jaharys grandson because big J ruled for decades and his kids all died, he's also the grand father of Aemma (Rhanerys Mom) and Rhaenys (the queen that never was).
So this would be the third person to carry the Aegon name. The Targaryans (like reallife dynasties) were big on re-using names. There's basically one Targaryan ever who has a unique name (that would be Duncan Targaryan who's like a century away).
And the Dragon at the Battle is named Seasmoke with the rider Laenor Velaryon who's mother is a Targaryan and as such would be Viserys and Daemon's second cousin. Not entirely sure where on the cousin tree he is in relation to Rhaenyra but the somethingTH cousin.

In our universe, in the history of our world, marriageable age from Classical antiquity to the 19th century in the west averaged from 14 for male to 12 for females , changed by the late 19 and early 20th century , in general. So no alternate universe involved here , tho this George R R Martin universe is an alternate time line from ours.

In saying "the Aegon Targaryen," I'm guessing you mean Aegon the Conqueror, and the answer is no. That's why Lord Hightower called him "Second of His Name." Aegon the Conqueror was First of His Name. This is a bit over 109 years post conquest.

For the record, Targaryens are not actually fireproof. They are resistant to fire and disease. The fireproof Daenerys thing was one of the many examples of overreaching by the showrunners and writers of GoT away from the cannon of the story.
But note that Drahar had a severe case of greyscale, ergo the Sons of the Harly mask, and Daemon was covered in his blood. I guess we shall see if they are immune to disease.

A lot of people misunderstand inbreeding and incest.
Jofferey's awfulness and mendacity were not the result of him being the product of his mother and her brother being the ones conceiving him.
He was an awful person simply because he was an awful person.
It happens, ........even among non-inbred people.
Think about it for a bit.
Tommen and Marcella were, by all considerations fairly decent and quite possibly even good kids and people.
Which means Cersei's and Jaimie's incestuous relationship had a 1 in 3 success rate at producing terrible human beings if the result of inbreeding is awful human beings.
That's not a very good success rate for a case arguing that incest leads to producing terrible human beings (personality and morality wise).
It could just be that the Lannister genes have a tendency to produce terrible people at a rate of about once every three kids for reasons that have nothing to do with incest.
Inbreeding and incest are more apt to produce physical deformities and immune system failures....but only after SEVERAL generations of doing so.
(and they don't lead to "Mad" Kings....(or Queens" either)
