Antique Victorian & Art Deco Era Glass Perfume Bottle Collection & Discussion

This is for all you antique glass bottle collectors out there. I have loads of old chatelaine bottles, lay down glass and crystal perfume bottles, atomizer perfume bottles from 1930's Art Deco era, bottles from the late Victorian era to the early 20th century, English silver top glass and crystal perfume bottles, etc...
My favorite are the antique glass piston pump perfume bottles. They are so hard to find.

The one bottle you got that glows green is probably uranium glass. Super cool!

Thanks so much. I want to go to Dead Horse Bay In Brooklyn to go hunting for glass bottles. I hear there are antique bottles scattered all over the beach. Have you ever been there? I wonder if there are any old glass perfume bottles there? My husband won't allow me to go there though. He said it is in a bad neighborhood 😞

Thanks again for your kind words. There are guide books out there and you can get them on Amazon used, but most are out of print and very expensive and hard to find. There was no way I was going to spend over $70 or more for an outdated perfume bottle collector's book so I learned on my own by researching online. I do not bother with those books and learned all I know from doing research on the internet. Just look on Google for info on old perfume bottles. If you are interested in them you can find a lot of info that way. You can also join vintage perfume bottle clubs. I think there is even a few on Facebook.

Hi and how are you? Thanks for the kind comments. I used to sell on Etsy, but no longer do so because the fees were so high and I had to pay an additional 27% in income taxes on each item. I am going to keep them unless people can buy them from me in cash, so I can avoid all the fees and taxes, lol 🤣😁😉
You can occasionally find these types of bottles at estate sales, thrift shops, Rubylane.com, flea markets, antique shops and on Etsy. Happy Hunting 😊

I want to know how do you put perfume on with the ones with short stoppers? I want the ones with the long stick stopper that dips into the perfume….

That is a good question. Since none of my bottles ever had perfume in them and are only empty bottles I have never known how the perfume was placed on the skin. When you say short stoppers, do you mean the glass ones that were under the metal or silver caps of the glass bottles? I think a lady would just tip the bottle upside down when the glass stopper was on and took it off and pressed the rounded part of the glass stopper onto her pressure points on the wrist or neck. I wish I knew. Unless they used to tip some of the perfume out of the bottle onto a cotton ball and applied it that way somehow. I find a lot of these old bottles with short stoppers having a tiny cotton ball tucked into the metal cap.

Hello, I have an antique perfume bottle, I'm not too sure how it's supposed to work? It has a little chain on the side I don't know what that is for? Any ideas?

The chain may have been there to attach to a screw on cap that was attached to the nozzle. They attached those chains to the screw on caps so the caps wouldn't go missng. As for using it, I wouldn't. It is better to only keep these bottles for display purposes. Back in the day Radium was put into a lot of the products they used. Even if you think you've cleaned that bottle out, there could be traces of deadly radium on it and in it, and if you put perfume in it and try to use it you can poison yourself. They even used Radium to produce a lot of glass and Radium was even in the metal mechanisms. Look up the "Radium Girls" for stories that will terrify you. Many people were poisoned by it and it was used in a lot of the products they made back them.

Oh I just read "the radium girls" but the one I have is cut crystal & sterling cap. Interesting about the girls in the factory.
