    Within the lore, the thing I enjoy the most is how the exceptionals are treated. They treat uglies mercifully by killing them, but the exceptionals have the most dire punishment, which was assimilation. Even before you made this video, I had figured out the lore, even if slightly different to how you describe it.

    • @spacecthulhu296
      @spacecthulhu296 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I know I'm late and you probably seen the latest video but you have to remember the humans don't think like us and they think that dying "ugly" is part of life

    • @flamingpi2245
      @flamingpi2245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Actually the exceptional citizens treat being part of hive as a great honour. I just realized something, in the first few shorts, a lot of the uglies are running away from the handymen, but where we are now in the story (Millenia later, during model citizen abs friendly shadow) they all go peacefully to their graves, the mother in friendly shadow is even fine with the fact that she’ll be killed, worrying more about her daughter. Autodale has become more and more stable, it takes less effort to keep up the perfect cycle

    I find this world extremely interesting, it has a simple yet terrifying feel to it. I noticed that all the uglies were adults, even the ones that were crippled or blind something they would have noticed in childhood. I wonder, do the robots wait for someone to grow to a certain age to see if they will fit in to the world veiw or some how fix themselves and then kill them off when they don't? Idk, just a kinda theory I made up I guess. I hope you make more shorts soon, I really like them

Is that you give such detail about your process, about the details, about the inspiration behind all of it, and that these behind the scenes are double the length of the actual shorts. It shows just how much effort and time and blood and sweat and tears (those last three may be metaphorical) you put in these. Also, These “crafting” videos are really helpful cause I’ve always wanted to make a short film but I’ve never known how, I just bought a sketch book so I can start working on concepts n all that jazz. I never would have thought to use sticky notes on it but now I see how easy it is to just keep adding and remiving them instead of erasing and leaving marks on the page :D keep up the great work ( and pls make more short films )

    I think if you make another video on this world, you could show what the pretty people actually do. Like, what do the fathers do at work in a world like this? Since most places that benefitted most from the “American Dream” were places that had nearby factories where most fathers could earn money, thereby allowing them to spend it and drive up local economy. So how would the idea of the “working father” be shown in Autodale? It doesn’t have to be the story, you could just show what they do, but it _could_ be the story. The first thing that comes to my mind is a Handyman factory.

Where she was a "beauty" that tried to help a "beast" but he hurt her so instead of a happy ending, it twisted her pov. And perhaps the Beast is out there in the real world trying to help some escape her dystopia.

      Unless of course this machine truly has no understanding of human rights in which case, yep this is accurate. If you told an AI that didn't understand your intention or rights take you happy, it might just tie you to a chair and drug you.

    This video has themes from "1984" George Orwell, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut
    1) 1984 is about the fictional dystopian society of Oceania where all free though is punished with death and torture and you are constantly watched by government. Plus all citizens must watch constant false propaganda from the ministry of Truth. The main difference is that there is no constant warfare or extreme poverty even among the Upper class factory Owners and intellectuals there are little to eat and few consumer goods.
    2) The Giver it is about a society who runs on the philosophy of Sameness. Everyone has to dress the same, live in the same house, own the same things, and there can be no originality. The main difference is some how all memories of the outside world have been sucked into one man the Giver and they kill old people and underdeveloped babies by lethal injection.
    3) Harrison Bergeron is about a fiction America where all people are equally competent by law and the talented people must where handicaps to prevent inequality. Strong people where weights to weaken them. Pretty people wear ugly masks to no make less people feel ugly. Smart people get there brain wiped so no one feels stupid. The similarity is that exceptional people who are talented is prevented from using the talent because society is afraid of them.
    4) The Ugglies in its social division between Pretties and Ugglies and the fact government controls them. The difference is the age hierarchies "1st) The Littles 2nd) The Ugglies 3rd) The New Pretties 4th) The Middle Pretties 5th) The Late Pretties #Plus the Specials which is Optional. Plus the freedom of the Ugglies is also a difference

    I wonder if there are some "exceptional" people who made if out
    what if the "monsters" aren't monsters they actually are scared of the robots
    I have a idea of someone who made it out and seeing one of the monsters curious they follow it and then they realize that it is scared and Calms the monster down showing that they aren't there to hurt them.. I can imagine that they feel like one in the same being cast aside because they are both scared because they are different I would love that idea of someone alone with a giant monster..
    I wonder if there is something out there besides what we have seen maybe a failed Utopia maybe hundreds of failed Utopias and this is another try
    I'm just sharing my ideas these behind the scenes stuff are probably my favorite videos keep up the fantastic work!

    • @Anonymous-wx7ct
      @Anonymous-wx7ct 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      EmMuffinDraws I was thinking that as well. Why would she have even been included in the first video if she didn't have a larger role later on. Plus, the boy and girl do not wear masks. Because they aren't pretties or uglies. While the boy is exceptional, the girl is truly special. In fact, I think that they will be labeled "specials" and something truly awful happens to them

    • @emmuffindoodles

      EmMuffinDraws I've noticed that there are two kinds of robots. There are the handyman/humaonoid robots, who have malicious intentions, and there are the large tank like robots who don't do much. What if the specials are turned into these robots, to endlessly roam around in loneliness for all eternity?

    I wonder how schools look like in this world - what can you teach to children so they stay brainwashed with tunnel vision and don't have individual thoughts? And how do they manage to kill the creativity out of children?

    • @Torichan888
      @Torichan888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't have a specific answer to your question, but the general answer is: the same thing you taught their parents. Remember, we've seen only three generations of Autodale citizens and have no idea how long this has been going on or how long robots last. Those questions would tell us how much practice the robots have at spotting exceptional children and catering to them enough to keep them from running away. Consider in 'Children's Toys', a robot has exactly the right answer to calm a child that has noticed blood splatters on it. So, enough time has passed to have this down.

      I’m imagining ACE curriculum-type stuff, just on a broader scale. It’s a Christian curriculum designed for churches to run their own private schools to keep kids away from the “corrupting” influence of public schools, and takes inspiration from a typical 50’s era office environment. Kids work alone, in their own cubicles, with no teachers to help and the books are as devoid of any kind of creativity as I can even imagine. Comics are interspersed throughout, giving supportive messages to their ideology such as the benefits of women’s submissiveness to men, the ideal dress length for a small girl, a parent stating that “we always feel good when we obey”, etc. I can’t imagine anything more suited to Autodale.

    (Sorry for the wall of text in advance) I really like this Distopian reality, and that it does point out the flaws of what the American dream was. It also is amazing to me that you have slightly influenced one of my drawings. The statements of all of these creations, the what-if factor about them, truly draws me closer to the world and prompts me to truly stop and think about the world. I do have my interpretations of things, but I believe that no one really wants to hear them, so that will stay in the dark, but I am really glad that I have found this and seen the animations since it has definitely made me think.

    This story explains the animation process but more importantly the ideas behind the story and what inspired it
    Every Dictatorship based Dystopia has 3 groups:
    1) The orthodox who obeys society and fits their roles
    2) The government who rules over society and make unfair rules
    3) The rebellious who try to change society
    But not every dystopia has these two Groups of People:
    1) The failures who try to obey society but can't because they have blizzard desires to break rules or a weaknesses making them useless to the dictators that are to hard to change
    2) The Pre-revolutionaries that are always watched. They obey the system but are more likely than the main orthodox or even the failures to have a successful rebellion because they are conscious things are wrong but more important they are powerfully smart enough to outwit the system or have political power to lead the people against them.
    It takes organization to run an army, persuasion skills to lead people to war, economic skills so your new government does not collapse financially and allow a counter revolution to come to power
    Counter Revolution: When Revolutionary Rebels Throw a Revolution against Revolutionary Rebels who started the original Revolution against the Government groups both hated because of disagreements on how the new society should be
