Ellen, you should avoid pointing with your fingers directly towards the bird. He sees it as threat, that's why he makes all the time his defensive movements.
Wow, that bird clearly understands the vocal cues and how to use them. I am sure he doesn't understand the english language like we do...but he knew to say, "No, stop, that's mean, let's be nice." to that pesky finger that was teasing him. Fascinating!
@laniakeas92 That actually meets parts of the criteria for understanding language, so that starling definetly knows at least the jist of what it's saying.
Love this bird. Listen to the video again from the beginning. As long as her tone was sweet, the bird was very happy and emulated her with sweet tones. Once she became impatient and short the bird responded in kind. He might not understand the words he's mimicking, but he certainly understands her tone.
In the 1990s, before the mobile phone became what it is today, I was often in England and also in London. In hydepark I heard a lot of mobile phone calls, but not very many people talking in them until it dawned on me, that it was the starlings that "roared" the dial tones in sharp competition to each other.
Damn, I never knew they could talk! What clarity. Sounds almost like a Mynah Bird. Birdbird is beautiful and amazing to watch and listen to. What a special bird. Enjoy him and thank you for sharing his abilities with us. Simply amazing.
I've been surveying bird talk for a little while now and have seen several articulate ones, but the dialogue between y'all was most genuinely spontaneous and meaningful.. Wow!
Lol. We have an older female. She doesn't talk but is very bright and quick to learn patterns. I laughed when I saw your bird pushing your hand away, ours does the same thing.
Videos like this inspired me to write about an alien character that speaks with a voice like this, their species normally talks in clicks and whistles and other bird-like sounds, so mimicking human language gives this kind of sound quality to their voices, like it's on an old timey wax cylinder or very early phonograph record.
Had no idea they’re so smart and can mimic so well. I’ve always nicely discouraged them from stopping at my yard because I was told it was the best thing to do. But… now I feel kinda bad lol.
i think it’s crazy how he has positive and negative phrases associated with how he feels! whenever you told him “no” or “hey!” he was probably feeling a negative emotion so of course when you do something he doesn’t like that’s what he would say!
I thought that was my imagine but it definitely sounds like he said you pervert , and whispered i bet you're perverted , Thank You , Security Breach , Stop it Pervert No . Hey No
I just took in a starling nestling 2 days ago. Approx 1 day old when we found " Miracle". She dropped bout 15 feet by where my daughter was playing. My bro in law tried to stick her back in small crack to nest but she fell again. Then he finally got her up in, and she fell out a third time about 10 mon later. There were no trees or bushes near by to leave her for momma to feed. It was 96 out and she would have cooked on that pavement or been food to a predator as a river nearby with hawks and eagles. Tried numerous wildlife rehabilitations here but no one will take her except Cornell University but i have no way there. It is an hour drive and i can't drive because of my spine. So i am trying everything i can to help her. The wildlife centers said i am doing everything perfect ( feeding her, her warm nest ) but with 3 falls i shouldn't expect her to live much longer. I hope they are wrong. Soon her eyes will open and she will imprint. I want her to be in the wild but it looks like not a possibility. Maybe she will live up to her name given by my daughter, 'Miracle'. I am already in love with this silly, awkward lil creature.
How is your baby bird doing? I have a baby starling bc of a similar situation and he/she finally has all it's feathers and it almost ready to fly. Debating how long after it starts to fly that I should release it.
@Tree Walker we were successfully able to release him in the wild with the help of a wildlife rehabilitation. It's a bittersweet feeling to release them but an amazing experience. We were fortunate, they don't always make it.
Amazing i used to think these birds were like vermin but theh are one of the most intriguing species if i get better i will build many homes for my new friends.
I've been raising a starling from when he had hardly any feathers. Its been about 3 weeks now & he's living in my screened in front porch. I am still hand feeding him & he seems to like it that way. How long before they eat on their own?
When birds like European sterling’s mimic voices, i don’t think they’re usually aware of the meaning behind it they’re just rehashing common phrases they’ve heard. If you say a particular phrase in a certain circumstance then birds saying it then is due to that I think.
Seeing things like this, I can see why long ago, people thought they heard ghosts in the woods or something. This sounds like a person
RIGHT?? 🤣😅
Why did I read "gun shots" instead of "ghosts"... 😂😂
Never thought about it that way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
@@3letta90 there are probably birds that have heard gunfire and mimic it
@@quantumblur_3145 there’s actually a bird that can perfectly mimic any sound
Smart bird avoiding Ellen
I agree.
😂😂 underrated comment
I came here to say that…
IKR?
Lol that's what I was thinking
Crazy thing is, the starling clearly articulates refusal with that "Hey! No!"
Agree

I wonder why.......
Yep they can associate pitches and specific word combinations with a specific emotion or intention.

😂
Bird knows better than to see Ellen.
No means no!
It's so funny the amount of us who constantly ask our animals friends, "What are doing?".
Ain’t that the truth 🤣
human kind should ask itself the very same question...
😀 I talk to the pets as if they're people too. It's funny. But I always wonder what they think when I'm yapping away at them.

What I've learned from this: starling are incredibly intelligent little voice recorders who don't like Ellen
In the 1990s, before the mobile phone became what it is today, I was often in England and also in London. In hydepark I heard a lot of mobile phone calls, but not very many people talking in them until it dawned on me, that it was the starlings that "roared" the dial tones in sharp competition to each other.
My pet starling Dart used to perfectly imitate the phone ringing. For some reason, he stopped doing it and I kind of miss it.
Birb has right to set its own boundaries. Squawk-no means no.
"Do you want to be on Ellen?" This bird knew what was up, it knew Ellen wasn't a good person.
It’s smarter than humans who were fooled by her.
Birb has no filter😂
literally sounds like a recording of a person, birds are so impressive i swear
I never knew a starling could talk. Wow, so impressive!
They are related to Mynahs.
1:50 ok but this sequence feels too natural, the way it emphasizes the "hey" and "no" is incredible.
They mimic mobile phones you go for your pocket then look up there taking the piss and loving it.
This bird sounds like that kind of bear toy who repeats. That's amazing.
He really does! Lol
These videos clearly prove me why I love birds so much. You're an amazing guardian of this very special bird 💖
The fact he ised no, stop, hey be nice when the lady wanted to pet him😂
The inflection went up with that last "no" too. Birdie meant that.
Damn, I never knew they could talk! What clarity. Sounds almost like a Mynah Bird. Birdbird is beautiful and amazing to watch and listen to. What a special bird. Enjoy him and thank you for sharing his abilities with us. Simply amazing.
Check out the White Bellbird if you haven't already. And uhh.. keep your headphones on, heehee.
Birds are the best for sure!
“Do you wanna go see Ellen?”
*h e y*
“Do you wanna or not?”
*h e y*
These common Starlings are really smart ...
Few of them made a nest inside my home this spring
She's not rude when you ask her a question and she just said "NO" Now, whose the bird brain now?
No means no lady! haha
It will never fail to crack me up how all starlings, when talking in human words, sound like a very old recording. ❤😅
Love this bird. Has a great voice!!!!!😊
So cute. Just say no to Ellen! Lol!
I wouldn’t wanna go see Ellen either this bird making sense
I’m here from Dodo🥰🥰 awww bird bird has a little “birdietude” 🤣🤣🤣
He’s the best but daggggone he’s cranky! Lol
I am convinced to get one of these amazing birds😍
I've been surveying bird talk for a little while now and have seen several articulate ones, but the dialogue between y'all was most genuinely spontaneous and meaningful.. Wow!
Ellen is the cat next door.
Imagine hearing this at night and thinking you have a spirit talking to you😅
RIGHT??? 😅😅
The Dodo Soulmates feature of you brought me here! 💕
Nikon Chic yay! So happy on how the video turned out ♥️
I am always looking for starling videos!❤
Starlings can be so stabby with that beak! Mine just stuck his beak up my nose!
Does it talk too?
@@sallyhildreth3663 he does. He says hi larry, come here baby and several other things.
🤣🤣
That’s a bad day 🤣
That bird 🐦 is Awesome...No to Ellen!* Lol 😂
Respect the bird. It said NO.

That’s hilarious, must be a starling thing lol
Yes, Sparky our Starling doesn't like fingers or toes either.
This bird is propably smarter than a chimp, even
Crazy right?!
_Good to see Sweet Dee's still getting work_
How many times she has to tell you" No No No"!!
Probably about 2.76383 billion times and I still do it 🤣
pretty bird!! you have a nice voice so his imitation sounds good! awsum!
What a beautiful, happy bird!
Thank you!!
I have to say that I don't blame the bird for not wanting to go see Ellen
Same

In the german language we have the word "Spaßvogel", whereas Spaß = joke and Vogel = bird (= Joker). This bird is definetly a Spaßvogel.
Incredibly adorable❤
Thank you!
I remember constantly getting woken up in the morning by them copying car alarms
Had no idea they’re so smart and can mimic so well. I’ve always nicely discouraged them from stopping at my yard because I was told it was the best thing to do. But… now I feel kinda bad lol.
I have a baby starling that's like 2 months old and it hates everybody... how can I get her to be nice!!!!!!!
It’s great. We have there seasonal migration right now. You can’t help but look at them in a different way.
It sounded like she was saying “get to the choppa” at the beginning
Sounded to me like it said Pervert Security Breach lol 😄
Lol! Honey, respect the bird's decision
That's amazing! I didn't know that starlings could mimic sounds so well! Great job baby birdie 🤩
Never heard starlings mock and talk like this.

I just saved one! Love this video!!
That’s awesome!!
He sounds so much like her 😮
He sounds like a real human
He really does - freaks my husband out 🤣
Lol! I'd say no too!!
Amazing bond you two have. How does one acquire a pet Starling? I’d like one me self.
❤how gorgeous ❤
That bird doesn't want to see Ellen. 😂
I hear" Thank you pervert"
I thought that was my imagine but it definitely sounds like he said you pervert , and whispered i bet you're perverted , Thank You , Security Breach , Stop it Pervert No . Hey No
Asked and answered - the birb said no. NO, he said!
The bird knows Who Ellen really is even a full year ago. He knows it's going to be bad for his career.
Exactly what I thought!
Gods creations are perfect!!!
Awesome bird, my goodness, how very cool 🙂🌻❤️🌄🙏
Wow , your bird pick up your words and repeat it later , so cool luv it
Thank you! They’re amazing birds

Oh, this is so cute. I would love to see you and your bird on Ellen.
You heard the bird: "No."

I recently rescued one as well. Mine was eating on his own when he was about 5 weeks.
What are you feeding them? I hope bugs. They don’t eat seeds. They need a high protein diet.
No Ellen visits on the agenda today, clearly! 😂
Lol “give me kiss”

The real question is "Who trained who"? LOL
SO CUTE
That's amazing how well they remember words
Good choice bird.
These birds are adorable. How would I go about getting one?
It clearly shows that Starlings are capable of language.
The question is how much can they truly understand?
What is their language in the wild?
A lot to be honest. Most loyal and intelligent bird I’ve ever had.
This starling has a much longer beak than the one's in my neighborhood.
