First OTB event in 3.5 years May 27-28! Info, pairings, and standings can be found here: www.charlottechesscenter.org/blitzrapid Wish me luck, #TeamScandi! 😀
I honestly aspire to be as chill as John when I blunder away winning positions. Usually I'm so annoyed with myself that it's tough to laugh it off as he does here.
I think the difference is that John is an IM who's playing for fun. For me, anyways, I really want to practice and improve so when I blunder in a game it feels much worse, especially when it's a blunder that I feel like I should be able to avoid by now.
I suppose those first two games show that Ben Finegold’s “never resign” rule holds true for IM’s too! Good to get those sorts of games out of the way before the OTB tourney though! Hope the OTB tourney goes well!
I must say that if we take this video's title at face value, then I have most certainly put in more than enough preparatory work in "blundering my queen" over the years, and I should therefore finally be more than "prepared for OTB games" ! But seriously, John, I wouldn't beat yourself up over a few blunders, especially given the high caliber of your competition, and the fact that your concentration and time are constantly divided between the game and the commentary (unlike your opponents, probably). Good luck in Charlotte - your many fans will be rooting for you! And if you're able to give us some later analysis/commentary on some of the games there, that would be awesome. But no pressure!
Please don’t get discouraged if you don’t have a good performance. We all know the road to improvement is bumpy and this tournament is probably lots more difficult than it looks. Best of luck John!
Good luck John!!!! Love your channel and honestly just love watching you! Please keep posting for us all! We LOVE YOU SOO MUCH!!! Your awesome, good looking and have a great personality!! You should totally do a vlog some time lol How fun would that be?!?!!? Show us some more personal stuff :) Take care and again good luck at the tournament!!
Here we learned that not only the clock can be used as a weapon, but that it is less like a sword and more like a grenade. Nice show of attitude there!
Good luck, John. Great to see you returning to the tournament hall. Online chess is fine, but nothing beats the atmosphere and feeling of a tournament hall.
On Perpetual Chess GM Moranda said he believed while training Levy that if he dedicated himself the chances of him becoming a GM were 100%. That should mean your chances are are 150%. 🙂 Best of luck in the tournament.
I lost a game on time yesterday on lichess where I was winning. I had an extra pawn in the centre and his king was a bit exposed and there were heavy pieces left on the board. It was 60+0 game and I can't handle the time properly when playing without uncrements. He was significantly lower rated, but I can't handle time pressure. I just move the pieces around until I have a couple of seconds left and then I start to drop everything.
I think you should have a strong intuition that f3 is not losing material because the bishop can exchange itself if opponent attempts to boot the knight. As long as both have safe squares to run to, one will make it out alive. Maybe telling if it's a good or bad way for the position to transform is harder though, I don't know a way to tell that so fast

Good luck this weekend!
I will be there. See you on Sunday! :D
Legend has it that once upon a time, John would actually be up on the clock in this series ;)

Same - I'm glad to know that I can blunder my queen with the best of them!

9:44 summoning Eric Rosen
From the title I conclude I am ready to play OTB!
Ok, time to watch the video. Go John!
I suppose those first two games show that Ben Finegold’s “never resign” rule holds true for IM’s too! Good to get those sorts of games out of the way before the OTB tourney though! Hope the OTB tourney goes well!

Good luck in the tournament John! And also, gotta say your shirt game has been top notch lately!

In 28:02 isn't Ne2 working for black?
Yes!
All the best for the tournament John!
Thanks, Bill!
Good luck in Charlotte! Make sure to get a win against a jet-lagged Danya!
Great video!!
Good luck JB!

Good luck John!
We all felt that " OH Noo" lol

Best of luck in the tournament.
John is the only person I can imagine losing two blitz games in a row when competely winning and reacting with "oh man"
That Queen blunder happens to all of us...a lot! On ward and up ward!
Good luck, John! I hope you have a great time
Blitz is hard enough but when it gets in a time scramble, well now I know how my cat feels watching a game.
Win or lose it's great seeing you play! Good luck with the tournament!
Good luck John! Go smash it at the OTB tournament!!!

Good luck!...should prove interesting.
Oh no my queen!
At 27:15 did you really calculate f3?
I think you should have a strong intuition that f3 is not losing material because the bishop can exchange itself if opponent attempts to boot the knight. As long as both have safe squares to run to, one will make it out alive. Maybe telling if it's a good or bad way for the position to transform is harder though, I don't know a way to tell that so fast
“Hi John, this is guys. Another using your weapon as a clock video. “
Tactical Botez Gambit, not a hung queen, my specialty 😅 Good luck in Charlotte!
Good luck John! Get some good sleep in before hand!
Better to have all the accidents in training than in the real competition 🙂
Now you have to buy a Tshirt from Eric... Oh No My Queen
Our mistakes sometimes make our successes that much more impactful.
You blundered the queen. You play just like me 😃
Good luck! (You do not have a FIDE rapid rating, btw. You only need to play 5 games to get one, so you might be rated after this)
Good Luck!
Good luck!
will you be streaming your tournament on twitch? i see you streamers do that
Charlotte, home to Naroditskiy and Giannatos
Yes indeed!
Can't believe my chess hero hung his queen 😂
You lost the first game because you didn't announce "My Queen!" after "Oh no!"
I don't understand how a 2700 IM plays that badly. My 2000 opponents play better than that.
Which player are you referring to?
@@joeyblogsy talking about IM "TimAina", in both games its so positionally ugly by like the 12th move
If they are 2700 they must be doing something right. You can see that in these positions this IM is finding a lot of resources and counterplay.
john sir love you
Good luck John!
