Thanks to everyone who commented and upvoted on the recent community post! I now have an excellent idea of what openings you guys would like to see, so starting with this video, I'll be working your suggestions into my CTRL and Standard games in the coming weeks.

Hi John, Love the comment about chess being a timeless game and that it will always be there for you. I Found your channel (and chess) about 5 or 6 years ago when I came across ‘my first chess opponent’ I fell in love with the game and have played ever since. I joined my local club a few years back and have met some great people through it, So I want to thank you for introducing me to chess, it’s helped me a lot over the years! Thanks!

John, not only are you a great player and talented teacher, no, you are also sweet as hell: „this game will always be here for you“ is the sweetest sentence ever made about this gorgeous game. Love you for that.

Thanks for the Alekhine game! Would love to see more, it's my favorite opening. You mentioned being scared of the pin after Qd7 in the game and the analysis, in the classical Nf3 line it's actually one of the recommended moves, the pin isn't scary after all with the dynamics, nor the King in the center if the queens are traded. The Tillis Chessable course has some nice lines to gain the stronger side of equality.

Fascinating! I never thought of Alekhine’s Defense as being part of the Caro-Scandi-French family. This line in particular seemed to have shades of a Panov, if white had been more proactive with the c-pawn

I was looking at Nd4 one move earlier when your knight hasn't reached b4 yet and c6 was undefended. Then there might be some Nc3 discovery desperado stuff, IDK too complicated.

  • @anotherlane9441

John, there is interesting thing:I'm actually do playing Alekhine defense right now, trying to explore so called Geschev gambit(it's when in scandinavian variation after e x d you play c6,offering another pawn for developing the knight),but believe it or not, there is literally no theory on the subject across the internet!Probably because it's objectively bad...But I know that Jobava, for example, plays it from time to time quite succesfully, so I'm really interested to dig deeper into this)Although not feeling the drill of it yet

Hey John love your videos! Could you ever make a lesson on how to methodically study theory? And also where to start? Im having a hard time with that. Your analysis helps and the chessable courses have been great but it often doesnt stick that well with me because my studying is to unstructured and unspecififc, often trying to study too many different things. That would be great!
