I am a Vietnam security police veteran and it concerns me how so many young SF people on You Tube say how easy SF academy is. In my day, the standards were obviously harder. Any police academy should not be "easy." It's a shame how standards have gone down and down over the past 40 years. If you ever watched the movie "Full Metal Jacket" the Marine basic training is similar to what my SP training was like. Having said what I have said, I thank you for your service and wish only the best for you.
It’s sad honestly the standards have lowered really bad and I’m waiting till I graduate here in 12 days to make my graduation/real opinion of the S.F academy video. If you stay tuned Yull probably see that I have lots to say regarding the training
I am sure you heard of the Combat SPs in Vietnam, they trained for 16 additional weeks in hawaii, Ranger instructors. Not an SP, but I did serve 2 tours there.
Please let me be one to say congrats! The tech school is amazing. It is one of the most strict in the Air Force but for good reason. Should go by fast, hoping that you both enjoy the first base assignment if he is active.
I graduated the Security Forces (Security Police at that time) Tech School in Dec 1989. We were the first class to live in the new (at that time) dorms. I believe they still use the same facilities today.
I’m 16 considering on going into the Air Force, talked with a recruiter and meeting up later this year when I turn 17 to start planning everything. I was afraid of tech school cause I heard the tests are hard but this helped a lot man 🙏🏼 in the mean time I’m going to physically prepare myself and study for the ASVAB early! Any tips for newbies and what to prepare for mainly?
I got you bro mainly man it’s the being away from home and the having to wait 8 weeks before you get any freedom back. Physically this isn’t hard just boring. If you don’t try to engage with the cadre and not talk to people the days will drag on and feel like forever. For me the days have been flying by. @@Alex_Arepa01 longs you get a 33 thats the minimum score for security force I wish people who actually want that job know that they can do security forces with any passing asvab score
Hey man I’m curious about how many push ups, sit-ups, and what time on the mile run test you need to get to pass. Can you tell me what the requirements are for the physical standards for security forces?
It’s a mile and a half run and recently the PT standards just changed like a month or two ago. Go ahead and Google it because the standards are different based on your age group. If you’re under 25, I do know that the max points are for 67 push-ups in a minute, 58 sit-ups (elbow to thigh, not elbow to knee sit-ups), and then 9:12 mile and a half run. Always aim for the max points and you will never have to worry about meeting the minimums. 👍🏼
So how hard is the tests in tech school? I’m like one of the worst test takers, and I have adhd on top of that (got a waiver). Anyways I just want to know like how hard is it if I don’t study? Is it like common sense or what?
No better start than here my man. BMT is what you gotta worry about, as long as you have common sense and listen you will do better than some of the guys at the tech school right now.
A lot tbh My next video I’ll address all the changes mainly to answer your question we don’t get 2 go off base anymore and we can only go to the bowling alley
The training program changes slightly. But because of covid, you are restricted to only the base. However, Lackland has plenty of amazing things to do throughout your time at tech school.
Hey Alex was wondering if you can answer these questions: 1. Is it uncommon to have older recruits (mid to late 30's) in BMT or at SF Tech School? Was there older recruits during your BMT? 2. How is PT at SF Tech School? Is it just as similar as in BMT? Harder or Easier? 3. Aside from the hands on training, how is the academics like in SF Tech School? 4. Serious question: Can you use the latrine at anytime during BMT or at Tech School or are they strict with when you can go? Thank You.
1. It's not common nor is it uncommon. I had two males in their 30s in my flight during BMT. Tech school is a little more common because of the TDYs. 2. The PT it tech school is easier, BMT you are going at it every morning or afternoon depending on when you come in. Tech school is more so you need to stay on top of it. (Because of covid rn we do not have group PT during the week(HPCON C)). 3. Hands-on is amazing, the classroom to some is boring but they throw a lot of information at you fast-paced. You learn quickly how to retain everything for the tests. 4. In absolute emergency yes, but know that you will have plenty of opportunities to utilize make sure you use them. In tech school, you are given more freedoms but obviously more responsibility. Act like an adult and you will be treated like one. (Use it when needed) I hope this helped a little. I am not associated with the creator, just another defender in the makings right now.
Perfect so Ill upload a video of me answering those questions if you want an answer now go ahead and add me on instagram @ explicitempanada96 and ill explain it there in greater detail using audio. As for BMT i didnt do BMT i did the army's basic training but ill someone who did do BMT answer that for you
Yes there are older recruits PT is for the most part pretty similar in BMT and Tech School. The PT test is the exact same but they actually just made the standards slightly easier Air Force wide. You will only have hands on progress checks and weapons qualification at Combat Arms and then the other sections will have written tests as well as hands on progress checks. You will get plenty of breaks to use the latrine. If you need to go immediately and you ask, I have never seen an instructor say no you may not use the latrine, but they may ask you to wait a minute for the next reasonable stopping point unless it is an emergency. If an instructor doesn’t let you use the restroom and you end up going to the restroom on yourself, that is something that the instructor could potentially get in trouble for. But you have to ask. They can’t read your mind. Hopefully this helps.
nah man i promise you this is super easy trust me ill go in depth next video but if you want a more direct personalized answer DM me on instagram @ explicitempanada96
Depends on your weight. You need to be in between a certain Body Mass Index (BMI) range which is a height to weight ratio. So if you weigh like 130 pounds you should be fine. But if you weigh like 200 pounds then you’re going to need to lose some weight before the recruiter can allow you to join.
We have Advanced Designated Marksman which is the Security Forces version of Snipers. It is not as difficult as Army Sniper School. We used to have Close Precision Engagement School which was on par with Army Sniper School (some would say even harder) but they ended that course a few years ago because they no longer saw it necessary to our current mission. If you have any other questions please let me know.
For requesting: Yes. Your squadron (or unit) will likely get several ADM slots per year. More or less depending on where you’re stationed. You will want to ensure that your supervisor & flight chief know whatever aspirations you have. What usually happens is an email will be sent out to everyone in the squadron asking who wants to go to the course and to submit an application through your chain of command. Sometimes if there are a lot of volunteers/applicants then a squadron will hold some kind of tryout to determine who is the best candidate. It also helps to be cool with your Unit Training Manager. A lot of course slots come down directly to them so if you’re cool with them and they know you want a particular slot to a course then sometimes they can help you out. I went to one course that way. For qualifying: Also yes. When I went to the Nuclear ADM course in 2016 it was a requirement to have shot expert on your last time qualifying on the M4 and then of course having a current passing PT test. Things change but that is how it was for me.
