      What do I do when my neighbors sing loud bad kayoke next to my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep after a hard day at work? When its late at night. And what do I do when people won't stop lighting fireworks in my neighborhood and scaring my 2 dogs? Police won't do anything either after they been called.

    A lad was proudly told the new vicar that he was getting married in his kilt and full-dress sporran. The vicar asked "What's the tartan?" The lad replied, "Oh she'll be wearin' a white dress." That joke kills me every time.

    Black Watch tartan is one of my favorites. Over the years, since we don't often wear kilts here in the US, I have had two or three flannel shirts in black watch and a couple in Royal Stewart also. Did you know that is how you make a chameleon explode, by setting him down on a tartan?
    No chameleons were actually harmed in the making of this comment!

    MacGregor and Campbell. I have also designed about 60 tartans, including one as an homage to Pink Floyd's most successful album 'The Dark Side of the Moon'. After posting the finished prototype to my facebook page, I realized that it could also be considered a pride tartan. It is aptly titled: 'Spectrum, a Darker Side'. It will not be registered in the Scottish Registry of Tartans.

    Have you considered doing a colab with Hannah Witton for one of her "drunk advice" videos? They have three rules:
    1) Be drunk. If you're not drunk, be in the _spirit_ of drunk.
    2) Have a friend with you.
    3) Don't take our advice.

    Wow! I really like that black/grey/purple one, slide that into #2 spot on my list. But I'd be remiss if I didn't reserve my #1 spot for the Clan Elliott tartan. Though I prefer the more vibrant 'modern' version, I think both look quite handsome. I would suppose my #3 favorite tartan would be that of Clan Kincaid. I just think it's demure enough to command respect, but bold enough to elicit attention. Plus, they also have a raised sword in their clan crest, probably some pretty exciting folks to hang out with! Spots #4 and #5 on my list are still open, as I don't get to spend much time researching tartans. Wish you continued success on your channel, keep up the good work.

    I love all tartans, but from a family perspective, my clan tartan is the Mitchell tartan. It is primarily green and royal blue with some black and red, and narrow white lines running through it. The older version was less defined and more of a sage green and grey- blue. It has associations with clans Innes, Forbes and MacDonald, and those surnames feature in my family tree. Although I'm from England, I have blood ties with Scotland and will be visiting Inverness and the Highlands in 2 weeks time! I can't wait! Great video, Mosco. Thumbs up. Haste ye back :)

All things Scottish, I used to breed Scottish Terriers, black ,brindles, and wheatens (blonde like me)!Feisty energetic little guys and gals, they keep you busy and are very happy little ones!!

    My favorite tartan is from the Clan Gordon cuz my father was a Gordin. There are several variations of the Gordon tartan. My fav is the modern tartan with its green, blue, black & yellow. Very pretty. My second choice is the dress Gordon. It has all the same colors as the modern but with a white background.

    My top 5, lowest to highest and why:
    5 - Isle of Skye (The colours!)
    4 - Bell of Borders (my paternal grandmother was a Bell)
    3 - Australian National (I'm Australian living in the USA)
    2 - MacBeth (Clan finder websites list my last name as a Sept)
    1 - Giant's Causeway tartan. It was my Dad's dream place in Ireland to see but he never made it before he passed 😞

    just a quick one! It is late at night and I am on a soul search to discover more about myself and my Scottish history/ancestry.

    Great post Lass. My favorite is the United States Marine Corps Tartan. I found this tartan when I found out that The Black Watch and the US Marine Corps have a working relationship. Not sure what it is but I am still looking in to this. I do know that the Black Watch was at the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. The US Marine Corps was at that battle fighting against the British. Thank you for your posts and keep up the Great work !! Semper Fidelis

    My mothers side of the family is Campbell, and I had a kilt made with the Black Watch tartan pattern. I had to do some serious family research on this one. I had to get it right. The cost was pretty high, BUT... worth for once in a life time thing.

    Our family, Paterson is septed to Clan MacLaren (MacLabhruinn) so I wear that tartan. Modern kilt, Ancient trews, waistcoat and Tam with ties and bow ties in both. If you see the MacLaren F1 team they have a strip of the tartan on their racing helmets.
    Royal Stewart reminds me of shortbread packs at Christmas but it must be Paterson's!

    Research shows that some of my relatives from the 1700s and 1800s have a link to the Robertson clan, so I wear a Robertson kilt. My dad's first cousin was Jean McCarty Hume, so there's a tangential link to the Humes. Other tartans I like, strictly because of the patterns, are Buchanan, McCallum, MacLeod of Lewis, and Macbeth. . .

    By direct heritage I am Clan MacLellan. I have some MacLeod blood as well as Trythbal and Keller. Irish people who immigrated to Scotland. I have a few kilts. I wear them to our local Celtic Festivals. They are Royal Stuart, Black Watch and loud Macleod. I wear Black Watch most often. It fits my persona and general wardrobe. I tend to darker colors.

    I'm from america, but my ancestors are mainly Scottish. My family did a genealogy search and I'm from the Mcgregor clan. So I would say check out the ancient hunters tartan for the Mcgregors ( It's a nice orange and green one). One day I'm going to get a kilt made from it.

      British companies are selling Tartans products or what is called Tartans products, such as hats and flat caps, that are not made out of wool. I know wool is used in the UK because of the cold but also because of the wool industry. I have a traditional looking Scottish Tammy flat cap that is in a Stewart Tartans that is made out of Cotton and not wool.

    • @gator1376
      @gator1376 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yes , the shirts are also made of cotton...... the bed spread can be either one , ( cotton or wool ) just a matter of how much you want to spend .

      gator 131 Major Wear a British Company along with other British companies sell Tartan flat caps that are not made out of wool. I know flat caps were first made out of wool and all but There are Tartan ones that are not wool. Wool is great for the cold but in the heat it can be a wee bit to hot.

      It's true that the real difference between plaid and tartan seems to be lost. I think cotton can be counted too but traditionally it's wool. Basically as long as it's run through a mill and woven in that way it's classed as a tartan, which makes most shirts and hats and dresses plaid rather than tartan. Though the two are basically the same thing. Plaid is also more commonly used for polyester and nylon clothing with a 'tartan' looking print on it ^^
      There's also something about the pattern too, tartan has an exact grid with the same pattern going horizontal and vertical where plaid can have sections going vertical that aren't repeated horizontal

    • @amberhiggins6327
      @amberhiggins6327 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tartans are traditionally wool because Scotland is so cold and because of the wool industry. If Scotland was in somewhere warmer like Australia wool Kilts wouldn't make much since. In Europe and places in the U.S were its cold men wear wool suite. At one time Missionaries went to warm Island and had the Natives dress in wool suites and some died. Also during the U.S Civil War many soldiers died en the South Eastern U.S, were there is high humidity, due too wearing wool uniforms. In the cold wool is great. So Scotland can have wool kilts. Here in California in the summer a wool kilt would be too hot and one could die of heat sickness. Also Many British and other companies have taken the wool Tartan patterns and placed them on lighter fabrics; such as cotton. That makes more since when one is living in the heat. And believe me southern Californian summers can be very hot. I have had heat sickness. Its not fun. One vomits and if not cooled down will die! All that said, plaid and Tartans are not quit the same.

    I have, and wear, the Pride of LGBT tartan, which I had imagined would be very loud and overwhelming when I saw it on the registry, but has turned out to be an excellent kilt. My own favourite tartan is, of course, my Clan tartan, but there are several others which I am eying keenly for the future.

    The Hebridean Thistle, MacShuibhe (MacSween) Black and MacLeòid na Hearadh (MacLeod of Harris) are easily my favourite tartans. I'll admit that I have a soft spot for them as a Hebridean and as a MacSween + MacLeod. I really love the colour scheme of your new tartan - especially the green!
